The Grashey shoulder position is used to demonstrate damage to the glenohumeral joint caused by osteoarthritis, sclerosis, tumors, fractures, osteophytes and cystic changes. However, it can be difficult to assess loss of articular cartilage using the Grashey shoulder position because little axial load is applied to the glenohumeral joint. This article describes a method of creating a loading force across the glenohumeral joint by adding weighted arm abduction during the Grashey position to demonstrate loss of the articular cartilage. Case studies and radiographs are presented to discuss the advantages of using the Grashey position with weighted abduction.  相似文献

Peptidomimetic cathepsin K inhibitors have been designed using binding models which were based on the X-ray crystal structure of an amino acid-based, active site-spanning inhibitor complexed with cathepsin K. These inhibitors, which contain a benzyloxybenzoyl group in place of a Cbz-leucine moiety, maintained good inhibitory potency relative to the amino acid-based inhibitor, and the binding models were found to be very predictive of relative inhibitor potency. The binding mode of one of the inhibitors was confirmed by X-ray crystallography, and the crystallographically determined structure is in close qualitative agreement with the initial binding model. These results strengthen the validity of a strategy involving iterative cycles of structure-based design, inhibitor synthesis and evaluation, and crystallographic structure determination for the discovery of peptidomimetic inhibitors.  相似文献

A comparative analysis is given of the gastric cancer incidence in the Tjumen Province for a period of 1959--1973. There was noted a direct dependence between the rate and number of risk factors (the complexes of unfavourable factors) in males and females. A conclusion is made that a higher incidence rate (1.7 times more) of gastric cancer among males may be attributed to the complexes of infavourable factors to which they are subject to a greater extent, 1.7 times as often as females, (mainly to bad habits) but not to biological features of the organism. Elimination of these harmful effects on the body would lessen the risk of this affection.  相似文献

Dispersions of single-walled carbon nanotubes in a 4-pentyl-4'-cyano-biphenyl nematic liquid crystal matrix are studied by X-ray scattering. For some mixtures, the addition of nanotubes strongly modifies the properties of the matrix: under a magnetic field, the nematic director is aligned perpendicular to the field, whereas it is parallel to it for pure 4-pentyl-4'-cyano-biphenyl. This original modification of liquid crystal alignment by the addition of nanotubes raises new questions about nanotubes and liquid crystal interactions.  相似文献

Repairable systems can be brought to one of possible states following a repair. These states are: ‘as good as new’, ‘as bad as old’ and ‘better than old but worse than new’. The probabilistic models traditionally used to estimate the expected number of failures account for the first two states, but they do not properly apply to the last one, which is more realistic in practice. In this paper, a probabilistic model that is applicable to all of the three after-repair states, called generalized renewal process (GRP), is applied. Simplistically, GRP addresses the repair assumption by introducing the concept of virtual age into the stochastic point processes to enable them to represent the full spectrum of repair assumptions. The shape of measured or design life distributions of systems can vary considerably, and therefore frequently cannot be approximated by simple distribution functions. The scope of the paper is to prove that a finite Weibull mixture, with positive component weights only, can be used as underlying distribution of the time to first failure (TTFF) of the GRP model, on condition that the unknown parameters can be estimated. To support the main idea, three examples are presented. In order to estimate the unknown parameters of the GRP model with m-fold Weibull mixture, the EM algorithm is applied. The GRP model with m mixture components distributions is compared to the standard GRP model based on two-parameter Weibull distribution by calculating the expected number of failures. It can be concluded that the suggested GRP model with Weibull mixture with an arbitrary but finite number of components is suitable for predicting failures based on the past performance of the system.  相似文献

The objective of this work was the development and validation of atomic absorption spectrometric (AAS) methods for the determination of residual active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in rinse samples for cleaning validation. AAS as an indirect method for the determination of API in rinse samples can be applied when it is in the form of salt with metal ions or when the metal ion is a part of the API's structure. The electrothermal AAS methods (aqueous and ethanol medium) for the determination of magnesium in esomeprazole magnesium and the flame AAS method for the determination of lithium in lithium carbonate in rinse samples were developed. Various combinations of solvents were tested and a combination of 1% aqueous or ethanol solution of nitric acid for esomeprazole magnesium and 0.1% aqueous solution of nitric acid for lithium carbonate were found to be the most suitable. The atomization conditions in the graphite furnace and in the flame were carefully studied to avoid losses of analyte and to achieve suitable sensitivity. The cleaning verification methods were validated with respect to accuracy, precision, linearity, limit of detection, and quantification. In all the cases, the limits of detection were at the microgram level. The methods were successfully applied for the determination of esomeprazole magnesium and lithium carbonate in rinse samples from cleaning procedures.  相似文献

L-366,509, a member of a novel class of nonpeptidyl compounds, has been characterized as an orally active oxytocin (OT) antagonist. L-366,509 exhibits a moderate binding affinity (K(i) values, 370-780 nM) for the rat, rhesus and human uterine OT receptor. L-366,509 also binds to vasopressin receptor subtypes (arginine vasopressin-V1 and V2) with measurable affinity in rat (K(i) values, 25-30 microM) and primate (K(i) values, 2-6 microM) tissues. In rat uterine slices, L-366,509 inhibits (IC50 = 1.6 microM) the stimulation of phosphatidylinositol turnover induced by OT but not bradykinin. In the rat isolated uterus, L-366,509 is a competitive and reversible OT antagonist (pA2 = 7.32). In vivo, L-366,509 given i.v. (10 mg/kg) or intraduodenally (10-50 mg/kg) to rats causes a marked and long-lasting inhibition of OT-stimulated uterine activity. OT antagonist activity in a pregnant rhesus macaque (approximately day 135 gestation) is also observed with L-366,509 after i.v. or p.o. dosing. L-366,509 represents a prototype for a new chemical class of OT antagonists with significant p.o. bioavailability.  相似文献

One of the most impressive features of moving animal groups is their ability to perform sudden coherent changes in travel direction. While this collective decision can be a response to an external alarm cue, directional switching can also emerge from the intrinsic fluctuations in individual behaviour. However, the cause and the mechanism by which such collective changes of direction occur are not fully understood yet. Here, we present an experimental study of spontaneous collective turns in natural flocks of starlings. We employ a recently developed tracking algorithm to reconstruct three-dimensional trajectories of each individual bird in the flock for the whole duration of a turning event. Our approach enables us to analyse changes in the individual behaviour of every group member and reveal the emergent dynamics of turning. We show that spontaneous turns start from individuals located at the elongated tips of the flocks, and then propagate through the group. We find that birds on the tips deviate from the mean direction of motion much more frequently than other individuals, indicating that persistent localized fluctuations are the crucial ingredient for triggering a collective directional change. Finally, we quantitatively verify that birds follow equal-radius paths during turning, the effects of which are a change of the flock''s orientation and a redistribution of individual locations in the group.  相似文献
