The paper addresses planners and decision-makers in the field of international development cooperation and also institutions concerned with the impacts of project- and technology promotion. The primary aim of the dissemination of Solar Home Systems (SHS) in off grid areas in developing countries is to improve the living conditions of the population in a cost–effective manner. A large-scale dissemination is essential both for significant contributions to development and for climate effectiveness. However, the contribution of SHS to climate protection is disputed. This analysis presents the most important parameters affecting the contribution of SHS to climate protection and quantifies the influence of those parameters. The case considered presupposes the commercial dissemination of SHS. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are affected by the marketing decisions of the supplier of SHS. With regard to the impact on GHG emissions, a comparison is made between traditional lighting with petroleum lamps and the use of dry cell batteries to operate small devices (baseline case) on the one hand and SHSs on the other. The comparison shows GHG savings of around 9 tonnes of CO2 equivalent GHG emissions within a 20-year period of use of one single 50 Wp SHS compared with the baseline case. The result is robust with respect to variations in GHG-affecting variables. Petroleum consumption and dry cell batteries dominate GHG emissions balances to such an extent that scarcely any importance can be attached to GHG emissions from the transportation and manufacture of SHS. Therefore, it is permissible to use simplified GHG inventories which ignore the GHG emissions arising from the transportation and manufacture of SHS. Therefore the conclusion is, if SHS are commercially disseminated and used cost efficiently to substitute kerosene and dry cell batteries they reduce GHG emissions effectively. In that case SHS can make a significant contribution to climate protection by the dissemination of large numbers.  相似文献

We report investigations on polycrystalline LaCo1?x Al x O3 (x = 0–0.9) bulk samples. The solid state synthesized samples showed a coexistence of rhombohedral and monoclinic phases in the intermediate concentrations (0.2 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) and pure rhombohedral phase otherwise. The observed effect of Al doping on dc transport has been analysed on the basis of small polaron hopping mechanism. The magnetisation results presented give evidence of weak ferromagnetism and anomalous temperature dependence of coercivity which we associate to the canting of the localised high-spin Co(III) and anti-symmetric exchange interactions at low temperatures.  相似文献

Modern thermodynamic models incorporate the concept of association (hydrogen bonding) and they can describe very satisfactorily many properties of water containing mixtures. They have not been successful in representing water's anomalous properties and this work provides a possible explanation. We have analyzed and interpreted recent experimental data, molecular simulation results, and two-state theory approaches and compared against the predictions from thermodynamic models. We show that the dominance of the tetrahedral structure implemented in modern thermodynamic models may be the reason for their failure for describing water systems. While this study does not prove the two-state theories for water, it indicates that a high level of tetrahedral structure of water is not in agreement with water's anomalous properties when used in thermodynamic models.  相似文献

Using the results of a comprehensive data analysis of final energy consumption in industry and commercial buildings, the assessment has been made of the potential for gradual implementation of cogeneration plants in these facilities. In doing so, plans for the expansion of the natural gas pipeline distribution network in Thailand are taken into consideration. The sample comprises of 2540 factories and 1651 commercial buildings from which it was found that 817 factories and 966 commercial buildings were suitable for the implementation of natural gas-based cogeneration technologies until 2020. By the implementation of cogeneration in these facilities, it is possible to save 3.2% of the total primary energy consumption in Thailand in 2003.  相似文献

Palladium was electrodeposited onto lithographically patterned Si(100) "micro-channels" with dimensions of 2 microm (width) x 100 microm (length). The properties of these Pd-covered Si micro-channels for detecting dihydrogen gas were then evaluated. Pd electrodeposition was carried out under conditions favoring an instantaneous nucleation and growth mechanism. This strategy produced size-similar Pd particles at a coverage of (4-6) x 10(9) cm(-2) within the confines of the Si micro-channel. When the mean particle radius, ro, was smaller than a critical value (ro < rc = 70-85 nm), each Pd particle was well separated on the surface from adjacent particles, on average, and no response to H2 gas attributable to the micro-channel was observed. As Pd particles were grown larger, to a mean radius of ro approximately equal to rc, adjacent particles on the surface touched and the electrical resistance of the micro-channel dropped by several orders of magnitude. These "type 2" H2 sensors exhibited a rapid (< 1 s), reversible decrease in their resistance in response to exposure to H2 above 0.5%, but a minimum resistance was observed at 1-2%, and a resistance increase was seen at higher H2 concentration. This complex behavior resulted from the existence of three mechanisms for charge transport across the micro-channel. If still larger quantities of Pd were deposited, the Pd particle ensemble coalesced into an electrically continuous film. These "type 3" sensors became more resistive in the presence of H2, not more conductive as seen for sensors of types 1 and 2, but the amplitude of this response was smaller than seen for type 2 sensors.  相似文献

A simple combustion method was used to synthesize LaGdZr2O7 powder and LaGdZr2O7 transparent ceramic was prepared by vacuum sintering at 1850 °C for 6 h. The final transparent ceramic, with a density of 6.46 g/cm3, has an in-line transmittance of 70.7% at 1000 nm and a refractive index of 2.08 at 632.8 nm.  相似文献

This study applies statistical analyses to fracture toughness results for four irradiated “current practice” submerged-arc welds and an A533 grade B class 1 plate. Charpy V-notch, tensile, and 25 mm thick compact specimens were irradiated at 288°C to neutron fluences of 0.7 to 2.0 × 1023 neutrons/m2 (>1 MeV). The plate material contained 0.14% Cu and 0.67% Ni. The four submerged-arc welds contained 0.04 to 0.12% Cu and 0.10 to 0.63% Ni. The plate material showed a Charpy V-notch impact transition temperature increase of 68°C, and a Charpy V-notch upper-shelf energy drop of 16%. The four submerged-arc welds showed smaller changes than the plate material did. The fracture toughness results from the 25 mm thick compact specimens showed approximately the same temperature shift as the Charpy V-notch results. The results imply that submerged-arc welds with both low-copper and low-nickel contents can exhibit essentially zero radiation embrittlement and that nickel can contribute to radiation embrittlement even when the copper content is low.  相似文献
