This study was performed to determine the effects of varnishing after impregnation with boron compounds on combustion properties of oak. For this aim, the test samples prepared from oak (Quercus petreae Liebl.) wood were impregnated according to ASTM D 1413‐99 with boric acid (Ba) and borax (Bx) by vacuum technique. After impregnation, surfaces were coated by cellulosic (Cv), synthetic (Sn), polyurethane (Pu), waterborne (Wb), acrylic (Ac), and acid hardening (Ah) varnishes in accordance to ASTM D 3023. Combustion properties of samples after varnishing process were determined, according to ASTM E 160‐50. According to material and process types, combustion temperature was the highest in Bx and Cv, the lowest in Ba and Ac. An important difference was not observed between without flame source combustion (WFSC) and flame source combustion (FSC). According to combustion type, impregnation material and varnish type, combustion temperature was the highest value in WFSC + Bx + acid hardening varnish combination and the lowest in WFSC + Ba + acrylic varnish combination. As a result, the tested varnishes showed an increasing impact but boron compounds showed a decreasing impact on combustion properties of oak. In consequence, for usage areas having a high risk of fire, impregnation of wood material with boron compounds before varnishing will decrease combustion temperature and provide security. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The impacts of impregnation and bleaching on the varnish layer hardness of Oriental beech (Fagus orientalist L.) wood were investigated. A number of bleaching combinations {[NaOH−H2O2], [NaOH−Ca(OH)2−H2O2], [NaOH−MgSO4−H2O2] [NaHSO3−H2C2O4], [NaSiO3−H2O2], [KMnO4+NaHSO3+H2O3]} were applied at 18% concentration for bleaching to both impregnated and unimpregnated specimens of Oriental beech wood. Subsequently, water-based (WB) varnish was coated over the samples and the varnish layer hardness values were determined in accordance with ASTM D 4366-95. All of the chemicals used for bleaching reduced the surface hardness. However, after varnish coating, the hardness of most samples was similar to that of the varnish-coated natural (control) samples.  相似文献

In the present study, the tribological performance of ternary (Zr,Hf)N coatings, whose Hf content was varied between 0 and 21 wt pct, has been systematically examined in the as-deposited and oxidized conditions. Coatings were applied on AISI D2 tool steel plates by arc physical vapor deposition (PVD). Oxidation was conducted at 400 °C for times up to 12 hours in air. Wear tests revealed pronounced improvement in the wear resistance with increasing Hf content in the as-deposited coatings. Oxidation for 12 hours yielded more than a fourfold increase in wear resistance. The beneficial effect of Hf on wear resistance decreased upon oxidation.  相似文献

In the present study, the sliding wear resistances of ZrN and (Zr, 12 wt% Hf)N coatings deposited on a hardened AISI D2 tool steel by arc-physical vapor deposition (PVD) technique were examined by a ball-on-disc wear tester. Alloying of ZrN coating with 12 wt% Hf did not change the hardness significantly, but achieved an improvement on adhesion strength and dry sliding wear resistance against steel (AISI 52100-55HRC) and Al2O3 balls.  相似文献

Investigation into the corrosion inhibition of low carbon steel in 0.1-M HCl solution by 1-ethyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium (EMTFB) and the effect of KI addition on the inhibition efficiency was carried out using potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and surface analysis (scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX)) techniques. Results show that EMTFB suppresses low carbon steel dissolution in the corrosive environment. Inhibition efficiency increased with the increase in EMTFB concentration. Addition of iodide ions to EMTFB raises inhibition efficiency from 75 to 98%. PDP results indicate that EMTFB affects majorly anodic reactions while EMTFB + KI act as cathodic-type inhibitor. The adsorption of EMTFB onto low carbon steel surface is by physical adsorption mechanism and follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. SEM and EDAX results confirm the adsorption of EMTFB alone and in combination with KI onto the steel surface.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of impregnation with Imersol-Aqua on the compression strength of some solid wood materials. For this aim, Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), European oak (Quercus petrea Liebl.), Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris Lipsky), Uludag fir (Abies Bornmülleriana Mattf.), Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis Lipsky) and Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra Lipsky) wood samples were prepared according to TS 2595 and impregnated with Imersol-Aqua, commonly being used in construction wood materials by the method of short, medium and long-term of dipping according to ASTM D 1413 and producers’ definition. After the impregnation process, compression strength was measured according to TS 2595. Consequently, among the non-impregnated wood materials, the highest compression strength was obtained in beech and pine samples. Compression strength at this situation from the highest to lowest can be enumerated beech, pine, oak, spruce, fir and poplar. With regard to the impregnation period, the sequence form the highest to lowest was as long-term, medium-term and short-term dipping. In the interaction of wood material and impregnation period, the highest compression strength values were obtained in Scotch pine (71.220 N mm−2) impregnated with long-term dipping method whereas the lowest in Lombardy poplar (35.710 N mm−2) impregnated with short-term dipping method.

In consequence, in the massive constructions and furniture elements that the compression strength after the impregnation is of great concern, long-term impregnation of solid wood material could be recommended.  相似文献

This study has been performed for determining the effects of impregnation with Timbercare Aqua (Tc) on the red and yellow color tone of some woods and varnishes. For this purpose, the test samples prepared from Oriental beech, European oak, Scotch pine, Oriental spruce, and Uludag fir woods, which met the requirements of ASTM D 358, was impregnated with Tc according to ASTM D 1413 and producer's definition. After impregnation, wood surfaces have been coated by Sayerlack parquet varnish (Sp), Sayerlack interior varnish (Si), and Sayerlack exterior varnish (Se) varnishes in accordance with the ASTM D 3023 standards. According to ASTM D 2244, the red and yellow color tone of samples after varnishing process was determined. As a result, the value of red color tone was the highest in Oriental beech (15.21) and the lowest in Uludag fir (5.38). For the wood material, impregnation material, and varnish interaction, the red color tone value was the highest in Oriental beech + Tc + Sp (18.43) and the lowest in Uludag fir + Tc + Si (3.92). The value of the yellow color tone was the highest in pine (34.45) and the lowest in Oriental beech (26.50). For the wood material, impregnation material, and varnish interaction, the yellow color tone value was the highest in Oriental spruce + Tc + Sp (42.12) and the lowest in Oriental beech + Tc + Si (21.47). This effect may be due to the impacts of impregnation chemical on wood extractives and color pigments in varnish. Accordingly, it should be taken into care for applications where the red and yellow color tone value is important. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

The navicular position was evaluated (according to Simons' criteria) on anteroposterior and lateral roentgenograms of 45 clubfeet that were treated with complete soft-tissue release without internal fixation. The evaluation was performed an average of 28 months after surgery. Position of the navicular correlates well with the functional rating score system. Navicular position can be viewed as an indicator for clubfoot correction. Internal fixation of the talonavicular joint was correlated with favorable correction of deformity.  相似文献
