This study outlines a new sensing platform based on glassy carbon electrodes modified by gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for the determination of heavy metal. A glassy carbon electrode was modified by chitosan stabilized AuNPs. AuNPs were prepared by reducing gold salt with a polysaccharide chitosan. Here, chitosan acted as a reducing/stabilizing agent. The AuNPs were characterized with UV–Visible absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Chitosan covered AuNPs were immobilized on the glassy carbon electrode for the determination of Cu (II) in aqueous solutions. The electrochemical determination of Cu (II) ions was performed using the differential pulse voltammetry technique. Some parameters for Cu (II) determination, such as pH, preconcentration time and electrolysis potential of Cu (II), were optimized. The detection limit was calculated as 5 × 10?9 mol L?1 by means of the 3:1 current-to-noise ratio. The interference of Cr(III), Fe(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Mg(II), Zn(II), Ba(II) ions was investigated and showed a negligible effect on the electrode response. Water–energy–food nexus in a transboundary context: the Euphrates–Tigris river basin as a case study

The paper analyses the evolution of transboundary water resources management in the Euphrates–Tigris basin with specific reference to interlinkages between water, food and energy policies at national and transboundary levels, and it explores how the policy shifts at the highest decision-making level have served to produce synergies for cooperation among the riparians or vice versa. 相似文献

The essential oils of Thymbra spicata var. spicata were obtained by both hydrodistillation and solvent-free microwave extraction methods. Chemical composition and antibacterial activity of the essential oils were examined. The main constituents of both essential oils obtained by solvent-free microwave extraction and hydrodistillation from Thymbra spicata var. spicata were carvacrol (44.8–36.1%), γ-terpinene (23.8–26.1%), and p-cymene (7.3–9.6%), respectively. The essential oil obtained from solvent-free microwave extraction contained substantially higher amounts of oxygenated compounds and lower amounts of monoterpenes than hydrodistillation. The antibacterial activities of the essential oils from solvent-free microwave extraction and hydrodistillation were evaluated by the disc diffusion method against six bacterial strains. The essential oil extracted by solvent-free microwave extraction was more effective than the essential oil extracted by hydrodistillation against the tested bacteria except for E. coli ATCC 25922- and S. aureus ATCC 25923+. Especially, S. aureus ATCC 25923+ was more sensitive against the essential oils obtained from Thymbra spicata var. spicata. Scanning electron microscopy measurements show that glands (that are filled with essential oils) were subjected to more severe thermal stresses and localized high pressure by microwave heating, the pressure build up within the glands could have exceeded their capacity for expansion and break down of cell walls. Solvent-free microwave extraction resulted in more extract release more rapidly than in hydrodestillation. 相似文献

Abstract The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationship between ash composition and ash fusion characteristic temperatures for some Turkish lignites. The lignite samples used are from different areas in Turkey. Regression analysis was used to relate the ash composition to the ash fusion behaviour. The results suggest that the chemical composition has a significant effect on the ash fusion temperatures. To consider Fe2O3 as an acidic ash constituent makes the realtionships between the selected ash composition parameters and ash fusion temperatures clearer. 相似文献

This article reviews the state of the art of transboundary water governance in the Euphrates–Tigris river basin, which is characterized by both political confrontation and cooperative institutional development. First, research on the physical characteristics of the basin is presented, with references to the literature on large-scale water development projects that underpin transboundary water interactions. Then, contending approaches to transboundary water governance are discussed, with specific references to the evolution of institutions. Finally, bearing in mind that transboundary water governance in the basin occurs in volatile political circumstances, current issues such as control of the water infrastructure by non-state violent actors and protection of water during armed conflict are scrutinized. 相似文献

Beginning in the early twentieth century and progressing rapidly since the 1950s, large-scale water works have created engineered rivers. In dry-land basins they control flooding and provide water and energy to farms, cities and industry. Yet, they face numerous challenges. In 2013 we formed an interdisciplinary team to study future conditions of nine river basins worldwide. This paper presents the methodology and interim results for two of our basins, the Rio Grande and the Euphrates-Tigris. We conclude with a new definition of the sustainability of engineered rivers in arid lands, using dependable reservoir yield under drought conditions as the central indicator. 相似文献
