Representative isolates from 10 distinct extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae that caused hospital outbreaks in the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1994 were examined for relationships between their enzymes and plasmids. The beta-lactamases were identified by a combination of isoelectric focusing and gene sequencing. SHV-2 beta-lactamase was produced by isolates from four outbreaks, SHV-5 was involved in three, and SHV-4, TEM-15, and TEM-26 were involved in one outbreak each. All of the extended-spectrum beta-lactamases were encoded by self-transmissible plasmids, with sizes ranging from about 70 to 160 kb. No similarities between the restriction digest patterns of the extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-encoding plasmids were detected, except to some extent between those that produced TEM-15 and TEM-26. Thus, outbreaks of hospital infection with these organisms in the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1994 involved distinct organisms and resistance plasmids and appeared to be unrelated.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the problem of establishing static connections with fault-tolerant requirements, also known as dependable connections, taking into account quality of transmission constraints. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that tackles the aforementioned problem under shared risk link group (SRLG) constraints in translucent WDM optical mesh networks where typically a set of strategically localized network nodes are equipped with regeneration capability to overcome physical-layer impairment effects. A novel cross-layer heuristic approach is introduced to solve the problem for an heterogeneous networked scenario relying on a cost-effective two-stage protection procedure which combines the well-known path protection and partial path protection schemes in order to ensure instantaneous recovery from any SRLG-failure event. The proposed heuristic integrates a generic auxiliary graph model that incorporates various network heterogeneity factors such as the number of transceivers at each network node, the number of wavelengths on each fiber link, and the regeneration capability of each node, represented by different edges in the constructed graph. Moreover, the integrated auxiliary graph can be applied efficiently to model either single- or mixed-line-rate translucent WDM optical networks wherein different modulation formats are employed in order to support the transmission at different line rates. Our solution approach aims at maximizing the total number of accommodated requests by reducing network resource consumption through the simultaneous use of the backup–backup and primary–backup multiplexing techniques. We, here, present extended versions of these two techniques that generalize the sharing concept to some other important node resources—specifically, regeneration equipments which constitute the major cost factor in optical transport networks—in addition to link resources (i.e., wavelength channels). As far as we know, this is the first attempt to deploy simultaneously generalized versions of the backup–backup and primary–backup multiplexing techniques when considering static traffic patterns without compromising the 100 % fault-recoverability guarantee. The performances of the proposed heuristic are evaluated and discussed through extensive numerical experiments carried out on different network topologies. Significant improvements are demonstrated, either in terms of network blocking performance or in terms of resource utilization efficiency, in comparison with previously proposed approaches.  相似文献

In this research, the mechanical, acoustical, thermal, morphological, and infrared spectral properties of untreated, heat and alkaline‐treated sisal fiber‐reinforced poly‐lactic‐acid bio‐composites were analyzed. The bio‐composite samples were fabricated using a hot press molding machine. The properties mentioned above were evaluated and compared with heat‐treated and alkaline‐treated sisal fibers. Composites with heat‐treated sisal fibers were found to exhibit the best mechanical properties. Thermo‐gravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted to study the thermal degradation of the bio‐composite samples. It was discovered that the PLA‐sisal composites with optimal heat‐treated at 160°C and alkaline‐treated fibers possess good thermal stability as compared with untreated fiber. The results indicated that the composites prepared with 30wt % of sisal had the highest sound absorption as compared with other composites. Evidence of the successful reaction of sodium hydroxide and heat treatment of the sisal fibers was provided by the infrared spectrum and implied by decreased bands at certain wavenumbers. Observations based on scanning electron microscopy of the fracture surface of the composites showed the effect of alkaline and heat treatment on the fiber surface and improved fiber‐matrix adhesion. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here, we describe a case in which A-scan ultrasound biometry was used to differentially diagnose the cause of reduced vision in a patient with keratoconus. A patient with keratoconus presented with reduced visual acuity in one eye, not improvable above 6/18 with specialist keratoconus contact lens fitting. This monocular amblyopia was attributed to previous anisometropic ametropia by the use of ultrasound biometry. The report demonstrates the usefulness of ultrasound biometry in the detection of amblyopia in circumstances in which a previous assessment of amblyopia is not possible. This information will impact upon decisions made for the future clinical management in this case, especially if vision deteriorates so that a corneal graft is required.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the static and dynamic mechanical properties of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced with sawdust (SD) at a strain rate of up to 103 s?1. In this study, the static and dynamic properties of HDPE/SD composites with different filler loadings of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 wt% SD were deliberated at different levels of strain rates (0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 650, 900, and 1100 s?1) using a conventional universal testing machine and the split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus. The results showed that the stress–strain curves, yield behavior, stiffness, and strength properties of the HDPE/SD composites were strongly affected by both the strain rate and the filler loadings. Furthermore, the rate sensitivityof the HDPE/SD composites showed a great dependency on the applied strain rate, increasing as the strain rate increased. However, the thermal activation values showed a contrary trend. Meanwhile, for the postdamage analysis, the results showed that the applied strain rates influenced the deformation behavior of the tested HDPE/SD composites. Moreover, for the fractographic analysis at dynamic loading, the composites showed that all the specimens underwent a severe catastrophic deformation. J. VINYL ADDIT.
