This study investigates associations between perceived micro-level urban design qualities, the affective experience of walking, and intention to walk specific routes in the neighbourhood. A total of 106 residents assessed on-site three routes planned for walking in semi-central neighbourhoods. In the prediction of the residents’ intention to choose to walk and intention to avoid walking the route, perceived urban design qualities were mediated by the affective experience of valence of the walk. The perceived complexity and aesthetic quality, upkeep and order, and the presence of well-maintained greenery, were identified as important. These perceived urban design qualities and affective experiences varied between the three routes, but also within the routes. It is proposed that understanding of site-specific affective experience of walking environments could serve as guidance for urban design practices. 相似文献

This paper presents an analysis of the Swedish laws concerning care to older people and the architectural design of housing for them in assisted living. There is one predominant model of assisted-living facilities in Sweden, which the author argues is the result of a norm, rather than the requirements stated in the Social Services Act, which is the over-arching law. This Act states that care to the old person should be individualised. The predominant assisted-living model offers small and identical bed-sitting rooms to each resident where they spend more than 15 h per day. It is suggested that these rooms do not accommodate the wishes and needs of each and every individual. Assisted living in Sweden is legally ranked in the same category as ordinary housing. However, medical and institutional mind-sets from the past are embedded in a normative way of thinking that take precedence in the production of these facilities. An investigation was made of the presence of drugs and narcotics in samples from Danish drivers having violated the Danish Road Traffic act in 1993. Four hundred and twenty-five cases were received, but only 317 cases were analysed for drugs or narcotics. In 256 cases drugs or narcotics were found present with a total of 531 findings. In 112 of the cases only one compound was found present. Benzodiazepines, morphine, methadone, cannabinoids and amphetamine were the most frequently occurring compounds with 239, 52, 42, 32 and 28 findings, respectively. The study has shown that especially the benzodiazepines together with the illicit drugs seem to constitute a threat to traffic safety. For two countries very much alike, namely Denmark and Norway this study has shown a remarkable difference in the number of samples analysed and the results found. 相似文献

Safety models for software-controlled systems should be intuitive, compositional and have the expressive power to model both software and hardware behaviour. Moreover, they should provide quantitative results for failure or hazard probabilities. Fault trees are an accepted and intuitive model for safety analysis, but they are incapable of expressing state dependencies or temporal order of events. We propose to combine fault trees with an explicit State/Event semantics, using a graphical notation that is similar to Statecharts. Our new model, named State/Event Fault Trees (SEFTs), subsumes both deterministic state machines suited to describe software behaviour, and Markov chains that model probabilistic failures, while keeping the visualisation of causal chains known from fault trees. We allow exponentially distributed probabilistic events, deterministic delays, and triggered events. The model provides a component concept, where components are connected by typed ports. Quantitative evaluation is achieved by translating the component models to Deterministic and Stochastic Petri Nets (DSPNs) and using an existing tool for analysis or simulation. Mono- and multilayer graphene sheets have been successfully produced from commercial graphite powder in a wet grinding process under mild milling conditions. The shear forces in the milling chamber lead to a continuous delamination of ultrathin graphene flakes which are dispersed in a liquid medium. To avoid agglomeration of the exfoliated flakes the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate was used. By adjusting the process parameters in a way to overcome the weak interlayer forces between the sheets without breaking them leads to the fabrication of thin flakes with high aspect ratios. The presented scalable process allows a high-yield and low-cost production of free-standing graphene sheets for various applications. 相似文献

Plant U-box armadillo repeat (PUB-ARM) ubiquitin (Ub) ligases have important functions in plant defense through the ubiquitination of target proteins. Defense against pathogens involves vesicle trafficking and the formation of extracellular vesicles. The PUB-ARM protein SENESCENCE ASSOCIATED UBIQUITIN E3 LIGASE1 (SAUL1) can form patches at the plasma membrane related to tethering multi-vesicular bodies (MVBs) to the plasma membrane. We uncovered the structure of a full-length plant ubiquitin ligase and the structural requirements of SAUL1, which are crucial for its function in patch formation. We resolved the structure of SAUL1 monomers by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The SAUL1 model showed that SAUL1 consists of two domains: a domain containing the N-terminal U-box and armadillo (ARM) repeats and the C-terminal ARM repeat domain, which includes a positively charged groove. We showed that all C-terminal ARM repeats are essential for patch formation and that this function requires arginine residue at position 736. By applying SAXS to polydisperse SAUL1 systems, the oligomerization of SAUL1 is detectable, with SAUL1 tetramers being the most prominent oligomers at higher concentrations. The oligomerization domain consists of the N-terminal U-box and some N-terminal ARM repeats. Deleting the U-box resulted in the promotion of the SAUL1 tethering function. Our findings indicate that structural changes in SAUL1 may be fundamental to its function in forming patches at the plasma membrane. 相似文献

Increasing energy efficiency and savings will play a key role in the achievement of the climate and energy targets in the European Union (EU). To meet the EU’s objectives for greenhouse gas emission reductions, renewable energy use and energy efficiency improvements, its member states have implemented and will design and implement various energy policies. This paper reviews a range of scientific articles on the topic of policy instruments for energy efficiency and savings and evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of different measures. The review demonstrates the variety of possible instruments and points to the complex policy environment, in which not a single instrument can meet the respective energy efficiency targets, but which requires a combination of multiple instruments. Therefore, the paper in particular focuses on assessing potential interactions between combinations of energy efficiency policies, i.e. the extent to which the different instruments counteract or support one another. So far, the literature on energy efficiency policy has paid only limited attention to the effect of interacting policies. This paper reviews and analyses interaction effects thus far identified with respect to factors that determine the interaction. Drawing on this review, we identify cases for interaction effects between energy efficiency policies to assess their potential existence systematically and to show future research needs. 相似文献
