Recently, the size of solder bump interconnects have been significantly reduced with the advent of high-density packaging, and thus the evaluation of electromigration in solder bumps has become necessary. The present paper proposes a simple method to test the electromigration resistance of Pb-free solders. One of the key points of the present method is the fabrication of a simple solder sample that can produce sufficient current density to cause electromigration. Moreover, the actual local temperature of a small area subjected to electromigration in the sample was measured by a direct method. A right-angled diamond-shaped hole was introduced in a thin film of solder using a focused-ion-beam system. A direct current was supplied to the film far from the hole, perpendicular to the diagonal of the hole. In this way, the current density was concentrated near to the corner of the hole, and the value of this was obtained through a theoretical analysis. It was noted that the steady temperature in the film along a line extending from the diagonal, remained constant, although the current density decreased gradually far from the corner. Therefore, the temperature at a position near the corner, where electromigration takes place, can easily be found by measuring the temperature far from the corner. The temperature was measured directly under current flow conditions by utilizing the chemical reagents with known melting points. Finally, by measuring the ratio of hillock volume to the time for the current supply as a measure of the atomic flux divergence due to electromigration, the corresponding resistances of some Pb-free solders to electromigration were evaluated.  相似文献

A compact electrostatic levitator was developed for the structural analysis of high-temperature liquids by x-ray diffraction methods. The size of the levitator was 200 mm in diameter and 200 mm in height and can be set up on a two axis diffractometer with a laboratory x-ray source, which is very convenient in performing structural measurements of high-temperature liquids. In particular, since the laboratory x-ray source allows a great amount of user time, preliminary or challenging experiments can be performed with trial and error, which prepares and complements synchrotron x-ray experiments. The present small apparatus also provides the advantage of portability and facility of setting. To demonstrate the capability of this electrostatic levitator, the static structure factors of alumina and silicon samples in their liquid phases were successfully measured.  相似文献

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is widely prevalent in Japanese dairy farms. To control BLV infections in Japan, segregating or managing cows according to their proviral load (PVL) is a rational strategy. This study was conducted to establish a quantitative procedure for estimating blood PVL per microliter using a statistical model to offer a cost-effective alternative to the conventional quantitative real-time PCR method. In total, 250 Holstein cows infected with BLV were identified from 10 commercial dairy farms. Information on age was collected and blood samples were tested for white blood cell and lymphocyte counts and PVL using PCR. Generalized linear models with quasi-Poisson errors were used to estimate PVL by selecting age, logarithm of lymphocyte count, and their interaction term as explanatory variables. To evaluate the model, blood samples of 92 BLV-infected Holstein cows from 2 other commercial dairy farms were tested, and measured PVL values were compared with estimated PVL values by the model. The logPVL per microliter was modeled by positive associations with log lymphocyte count and age and a negative association with the interaction term. In the evaluation, measured PVL values had a strong correlation with estimated PVL values (Spearman's ρ = 0.87). In conclusion, our model provides a cost-effective and more rapid alternative to the conventional method to facilitate test and segregation or management of BLV-suspected cows.  相似文献

High-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments were performed for clathrate-forming barium–germanium (Ba–Ge) alloys in the liquid state near the eutectic composition. The accurate structure information of highly reactive melts has been obtained by applying electrostatic levitation technique as a containerless method. The structure information obtained from the reverse Monte Carlo simulation suggests that the short-range ordering between the Ge atoms occurs with the addition of Ba atoms in the liquid Ba–Ge alloys. This can be associated with the formation of the cage-like structure composed of the Ge atoms in the liquid alloys near the eutectic composition.  相似文献

We investigated the chemical bath deposition of US thin flims on the Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (GIGS) absorber layers and glasses. The process of the chemical bath deposition of US layer affected the performance of the CIGS solar cells. The CdS layers were deposited on the CIGS film from CdI2, thiourea (NH2CSNHn2) and ammonia solutions. The influence of pH on the chemical bath deposition process was studied. The surfaces of the US films were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The compositions of the obtained CdS layers were analyzed by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The performance of the CIGS solar cells was discussed on the basis of the characteristics of the chemical bath deposited layer. We have successfully fabricated a high-efficiency CIGS solar cell with an efficiency of 17% using a US layer with stoichiometric composition.  相似文献

Liquid phase fabrication methods for aluminum matrix composites reinforced with SiC whiskers, or SiC particles have been investigated and the mechanical properties of fabricated composites have been evaluated. Three kinds of liquid phase fabrication methods; hot extrusion, hot pressing and pressure infiltration, were studied. Commercial SiC whiskers and SiC powders of alpha type and beta type were used as the reinforcements for an aluminum matrix. Among the fabrication methods investigated, the best results were achieved by the pressure infiltration. The mechanical properties and the wear resistance of the fabricated composites were measured. The SiC whisker reinforced aluminum matrix composites have high strength, so that they can be used as high specific strength materials. The SiC particulate reinforced aluminum matrix composites are not strong as the SiC whisker reinforced composites. However, the SiC particulate reinforced aluminum matrix composites have a good potential for use as wear resistant material. The hardening effect of beta type particles on the aluminum matrix was larger than that of alpha type particles.  相似文献
