Studies on color preferences are dependent on the topic and the relationships with personal characteristics, particularly personality, but these are seldom studied in one population. Therefore a questionnaire was collected from 1095 Dutch people asking for color preferences about different topics and relating them to personal characteristics. Color preferences regarding different topics show different patterns and significant differences were found between gender, age, education and personality such as being technical, being emotional or being a team player. Also, different colors were mentioned when asked for colors that stimulate to be quiet, energetic, and able to focus or creative. Probably, due to unconsciousness of contexts, many people had no color preference, a result that in the literature seldom is mentioned. Blue was the overall favorite color; however, most males chose for blue (25%) while most females had no color preference (18%). Black was the overall favorite color for clothing, mainly chosen by females (40%), while males primarily chose blue (27%). For building interiors subjects preferred white. For moods, subjects preferred white for being quiet or being able to focus, red for being energetic and had no color preference for being creative. It is concluded that color preferences are dependent upon the topic, and personal characteristics. The findings are important for architects, interior designers, fashion designers and product designers to have a basic idea of preferred colors for different objects by different types of people. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dose measurements in brachytherapy 192Ir implants are often difficult due to large dose gradients and complex photon spectra. Therefore, tissue-equivalent detectors with a high spatial resolution, such as the highly promising LiF:Mg,Cu,P thermoluminescent detectors (TLDs) are required. It was the aim of the present work to ascertain if miniature LiF:Mg,Cu,P TLDs can effectively measure the dose distribution around 192Ir implants. 'Pin worm' TLDs (type MCP, diameter 0.6 mm, length 2 mm) were compared with GR-200R (SSDL, Beijing) rods cut in half. The TLDs were tested for reproducibility and energy dependence using high dose rate (HDR) and low dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy units. 192Ir measurements were performed in a tissue equivalent phantom accommodating hollow needles and catheters routinely used in brachytherapy. Pin worms had an average reproducibility of less than +/-2% (1 SD) and a detection limit of less than 10 microGy. The small dimensions of the pin worms allowed their placement within brachytherapy needles and catheters. The measured relative dose distribution was in good agreement with the predictions of a computerised treatment planning system (ADAC Pinnacle); however, limitations in the TLD energy correction did not allow for absolute dose comparison. 相似文献

The safety and immunogenicity of a commercial trivalent subunit influenza vaccine and an experimental virosome-formulated influenza vaccine were evaluated among geriatric patients in a double-blind, randomized manner. The virosome vaccine was produced by incorporating hemagglutinin (HA) into the membrane of liposomes composed of phosphatidylcholine. Both vaccines elicited a significant (P < 0.01) rise in the geometric mean anti-HA antibody titer to all three vaccine components 1 month after immunization. However, significantly (P < 0.005) more subjects vaccinated with the virosome preparation mounted a more than fourfold rise to the A/Singapore and A/Beijing strains compared with those who received subunit vaccine. The percentage of patients who attained protective levels (anti-HA titer > or = 40) of anti-A/Beijing antibody was also significantly (P < 0.005) higher in the virosome group. Subjects who possessed non-protective baseline antibody levels to the A/Singapore and A/Beijing strains were more likely (P < 0.005-0.030) to achieve protective levels after immunization with the virosome vaccine than with the subunit vaccine. Of particular clinical significance was the fact that 68.4% of subjects immunized with the virosome vaccine attained protective levels of antibody to all three vaccine components versus 38% for the subunit vaccine (P = 0.010). 相似文献

New results on the design and performance of digital supermode distributed Bragg reflector lasers for L-band operation are presented. The L-band device, which is fabricated using the same InP-based process as its C-band equivalent is shown to give essentially the same performance. The design changes required are discussed and a detailed comparison presented between C- and L-band devices. Together, a two-chip solution can provide more than 200 consecutive 50-GHz spaced channels (82-nm bandwidth) with SMSR greater than 45 dB and fiber-coupled leveled powers of 13 dBm. 相似文献

Mass and energy balances in a reactor have been derived to study the effect of particle size distribution (PSD) for each reaction
mechanism on the reactor dynamics. It was observed that the PSD affects both bed height and particle volume. A feasible region
for reactor operation has been calculated by using physical constraints. In a nonisothermal polymerization system, the reactor
temperature does not change appreciably as catalyst injection rate increases. A unique steady state solution is found in a
gas-phase continuous stirred-bed propylene polymerization reactor. The eigenvalues of the system of equations indicate that
the steady state is unstable. A comparison with published data allows the observation that the actual reactor dynamics may
be readily explained by using only the PSD derived from a simple reaction mechanism. 相似文献

Comfort plays an increasingly important role in the interior design of airplanes. Although ample research has been conducted on airplane design technology, only a small amount of public scientific information is available addressing the passenger's opinion. In this study, more than 10,000 internet trip reports and 153 passenger interviews were used to gather opinions about aspects which need to be improved in order to design a more comfortable aircraft interior. The results show clear relationships between comfort and legroom, hygiene, crew attention and seat/personal space. Passengers rate the newer planes significantly better than older ones, indicating that attention to design for comfort has proven effective. The study also shows that rude flight attendants and bad hygiene reduce the comfort experience drastically and that a high comfort rating is related to higher "fly again" values. 相似文献

When acquiring data to characterise radiation beams for radiotherapy treatment planning measurements in steep dose gradients such as beam penumbra or dose build-up are often required. A metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) with its inherent high spatial resolution was used for penumbra measurements in a 120 kVp X ray beam. The customised MOSFET system features a pulsed readout that allows the acquisition of data points in user defined time intervals of less than 1 s. Using a modified scanning beam data acquisition system the penumbra was acquired on-line in 0.1 mm steps. Measurements were made at different distances behind the beam collimator. From the extrapolation of the penumbra width to a location directly under the block the spatial resolution of the MOSFET system can be estimated to be better than 0.1 mm. This excellent spatial resolution has many potential applications in radiotherapy dosimetry, including the characterisation of multileaf collimator systems. 相似文献
