Angiographic procedures are technically difficult when soft-tissue scarring and deformity are present at the site of vascular access. This case demonstrates the rare complication of catheter-sheath separation during an attempted coronary arteriogram. The patient had deformity and soft-tissue scarring due to bilateral lower-extremity amputation secondary to blast injuries sustained in Vietnam.  相似文献

The redbay ambrosia beetle, Xyleborus glabratus, is an invasive wood-boring beetle that has become established in the southeastern United States. The beetle transmits the causal pathogen of lethal laurel wilt to susceptible host trees, which include redbay, an important forest community species, and avocado, a valuable food crop. By examining odors of redbay wood, we developed an artificial lure that captured X. glabratus in redbay forests. Eucalyptol was a critical component of the blend for beetle attraction, and eucalyptol alone in large quantities attracted X. glabratus. Furthermore, eucalyptol stimulated boring by X. glabratus into paper arenas. The results suggest that eucalyptol contributes to host selection behavior of X. glabratus and may be useful for management of this pathogen vector.  相似文献

Neither the native ligand nor the cell biology of the bombesin (Bn)-related orphan receptor subtype 3 (BRS-3) is known. In this study, we used RT-PCR to identify two human lung cancer lines that contain sufficient numbers of native hBRS-3 to allow study: NCI-N417 and NCI-H720. In both cell lines, [DPhe6,betaAla11,Phe13, Nle14]Bn(6-14) stimulates [3H]inositol phosphate. In NCI-N417 cells, binding of 125I-[DTyr6,betaAla11,Phe13,Nle14]Bn(6-14) was saturable and high-affinity. [DPhe6,betaAla11,Phe13,Nle14]Bn(6-14) stimulated phospholipase D activity and a concentration-dependent release of [3H]inositol phosphate (EC50 = 25 nM) and intracellular calcium (EC50 = 14 nM); the increases in intracellular calcium were primarily from intracellular stores. hBRS-3 activation was not coupled to changes in adenylate cyclase activity, [3H]-thymidine incorporation or cell proliferation. No naturally occurring Bn-related peptides bound or activated the hBRS-3 with high affinity. Four different bombesin receptor antagonists inhibited increases in [3H]inositol phosphate. Using cytosensor microphysiometry, we found that [DPhe6,betaAla11,Phe13, Nle14]Bn(6-14) caused concentration-dependent acidification. The results show that native hBRS-3 receptors couple to phospholipases C and D but not to adenylate cyclase and that they stimulate mobilization of intracellular calcium and increase metabolism but not growth. The discovery of human cell lines with native, functional BRS-3 receptors, of new leads for a more hBRS-3-specific antagonist and of the validity of microphysiometry as an assay has yielded important tools that can be used for the identification of a native ligand for hBRS-3 and for the characterization of BRS-3-mediated biological responses.  相似文献

Adrenomedullin, the recently described vasodilator that exhibits potent hypotensive actions when administered systemically, is also found in the central nervous system, suggesting a role for adrenomedullin as a neurohormone. However, only a limited number of studies have examined the central effects of adrenomedullin. Therefore, we have examined the integrative hemodynamic, renal, and hormonal effects of intracerebroventricular (I.C.V.) adrenomedullin in conscious sheep. Eight surgically prepared sheep received I.C.V. infusions of adrenomedullin at two doses (2 ng/kg x min followed immediately by 20 ng/kg x min each for 90 min) in a vehicle-controlled study. Water deprivation for 48 h before control infusion resulted in sheep drinking 2617 +/- 583 ml in the 90-min period following reintroduction of water. On the adrenomedullin day, drinking was halved to 1392 +/- 361 ml (P < 0.05). Adrenomedullin had no significant effect on urinary volume and sodium excretion. Plasma adrenomedullin levels remained unchanged during control infusions but were elevated by the end of I.C.V. adrenomedullin infusions (P < 0.001). Plasma ANP levels were also increased approximately 50% (P < 0.05). Plasma levels of both ACTH and cortisol were also increased 3- to 4-fold in response to I.C.V. adrenomedullin (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in arterial pressure, heart rate, or cardiac output between study days. In conclusion, adrenomedullin within the central nervous system may have at least two roles: modulation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis and protection against fluid overload.  相似文献

Nine cases of sacro-iliac pyarthrosis are presented. The difficulty in localizing the infection is attributable mostly to failure to appreciate the posteriorly situated physical findings. This, and the difficulty with early roentgenographic demonstration of the lesion, may lead to unnecessary abdominal exploration (as in two of our patients) or to prolonged delay in diagnosis and hence spread of the infection. Awareness of the usual physical findings and prompt use of radioisotope scanning to localize the infection led to earlier diagnosis and avoidance of surgery in three patients seen recently. Antibiotic therapy, with or without surgery, led to cure in all patients, with minimum sequelae.  相似文献

A plasma-sprayed zinc silicate phosphor was heat-treated at ∼800°C informing gas; the major phase present was the metastable β phase, as revealed by bright yellow fluorescence under uv excitation. On heat treatment at ∼1000°C in air, a green, fluorescence developed as a result of the formation of the stable a phase.
