Effect of temperature on the strength and conductivity of a deformation processed Cu-20%Fe composite 总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6

The high temperature (22–600 °C) properties were evaluated for a Cu-20%Fe composite deformation processed from a powder metallurgy compact. The ultimate tensile strengths decreased with increasing temperature but were appreciably better than those of similarly processed Cu at temperatures up to 450 °C. At 600 °C, the strength of Cu-20%Fe was only slightly better than that of Cu as a result of the pronounced coarsening of the Fe filaments. However, at temperatures of 300 and 450 °C, the strength of Cu-20%Fe is about seven and six times greater, respectively, than that of Cu, as compared to about a two fold advantage at room temperature. Therefore, Cu-20%Fe composites made by deformation processing of powder metallurgy compacts have mechanical properties much superior to those of similarly processed Cu at room temperature and at temperatures up to 450 °C. The pronounced decrease in electrical conductivity of deformation processed Cu-20%Fe as compared to Cu is attributed to the appreciable dissolution of Fe into the Cu matrix which occurred during the fabrication of the starting compacts where temperatures up to 675 °C were used. While the powder metallurgy compacts used for the starting material for deformation processing in this study did not lead to a high conductivity composite, the powder metallurgy approach should still be a viable one if processing temperatures can be reduced further to prevent the dissolution of Fe into the Cu matrix. 相似文献

The release of ovarian oxytocin and uterine prostaglandin (PG)F2alpha in response to an oestradiol stimulus was investigated. On Day 15 post-oestrus, ten ewes with ovarian auto-transplants (n=5 per group) received an intra-muscular injection of either oestradiol benzoate (50 microg) or vehicle. Blood samples were collected from the ovarian and jugular veins at 30 and 0 min before, and at 15-min intervals up to 540 min after, injection. The secretion rate of ovarian progesterone remained elevated in four of five treated ewes and in all control ewes, indicating the presence of a functional corpus luteum. Peripheral oestradiol concentrations were significantly (P < 0.001) higher in treated than in control ewes. The number of ewes that released pulses of ovarian oxytocin > or =240 min following oestradiol benzoate injection was significantly (P < 0 05) greater than that in control ewes. Mean amplitude and area under both ovarian-vein oxytocin and jugular-vein 15 keto-13,14 dihydro prostaglandin F2alpha (PGFM) pulses were significantly increased in the treated ewes. These findings demonstrate that the administration of exogenous oestrogen provides a positive stimulus for the release of ovarian oxytocin and uterine PGF2alpha in the ovarian auto-transplanted ewe. 相似文献

Bituminous coal samples from 84 distinct sources were analysed by conventional British Standards (BS) methods for phosphorus, sulphur, chlorine, ash and the ash-forming elements (calcium, silicon, aluminium, iron, sodium, magnesium, potassium, titanium and manganese). In most cases four determinations were made per element per source. Samples were crushed to ?212 μm (72 BS mesh) and pressed into aluminium cups at 20 t in?2 (309 MPa) without binder or backing. Two pellets from each sample were analysed by wave-length dispersive X-ray fluorescence techniques, using a spectrometer equipped with a rhodium rube; the X-ray count took 60 s. The X-ray results were calibrated against the conventional results using multiple regression. The accuracy obtained was comparable with routine ‘wet chemical’ techniques. The X-ray technique is suitable for the routine determination of large numbers of samples. 相似文献

Beam-induced specimen movement may be the major factor that limits the quality of high-resolution images of organic specimens. One of the possible measures to improve the situation that was proposed by Henderson and Glaeser [Ultramicroscopy 16 (1985) 139-150], which we refer to here as "stroboscopic image capture", is to divide the normal exposure into many successive frames, thus reducing the amount of electron exposure--and possibly the amount of beam-induced movement--per frame. The frames would then be aligned and summed. We have performed preliminary experiments on stroboscopic imaging using a 200-kV electron microscope that was equipped with a high dynamic range Charge-coupled device (CCD) camera for image recording and a liquid N2-cooled cryoholder. Single-layer paraffin crystals on carbon film were used as a test specimen. The ratio F(g)/F(0) of paraffin reflections, calculated from the images, serves as our criterion for the image quality. In the series that were evaluated, no significant improvement of the F(image)(g)/F(image)(0) ratio was found, even though the electron exposure per frame was reduced by a factor of 30. A frame-to-frame analysis of image distortions showed that considerable beam-induced movement had still occurred during each frame. In addition, the paraffin crystal lattice was observed to move relative to the supporting carbon film, a fact that cannot be explained as being an electron-optical effect caused by specimen charging. We conclude that a significant further reduction of the dose per frame (than was possible with this CCD detector) will be needed in order to test whether the frame-to-frame changes ultimately become small enough for stroboscopic image capture to show its potential. 相似文献

We present a new approach to the cocktail party problem that uses a cortronic artificial neural network architecture (Hecht-Nielsen, 1998) as the front end of a speech processing system. Our approach is novel in three important respects. First, our method assumes and exploits detailed knowledge of the signals we wish to attend to in the cocktail party environment. Second, our goal is to provide preprocessing in advance of a pattern recognition system rather than to separate one or more of the mixed sources explicitly. Third, the neural network model we employ is more biologically feasible than are most other approaches to the cocktail party problem. Electron microscopists are increasingly turning to intermediate voltage electron microscopes (IVEMs) operating at 300-400 kV for a wide range of studies. They are also increasingly taking advantage of slow-scan charge coupled device (CCD) cameras, which have become widely used on electron microscopes. Under some conditions, CCDs provide an improvement in data quality over photographic film, as well as the many advantages of direct digital readout. However, CCD performance is seriously degraded on IVEMs compared to the more conventional 100 kV microscopes. In order to increase the efficiency and quality of data recording on IVEMs, we have developed a CCD camera system in which the electrons are decelerated to below 100 kV before impacting the camera, resulting in greatly improved performance in both signal quality and resolution compared to other CCDs used in electron microscopy. These improvements will allow high-quality image and diffraction data to be collected directly with the CCD, enabling improvements in data collection for applications including high-resolution electron crystallography, single particle reconstruction of protein structures, tomographic studies of cell ultrastructure, and remote microscope operation. Platelet-activating factor (PAF) is produced by preimplantation embryos and may be involved in the earliest stages of embryo-maternal dialogue. This study explored the potential effects of PAF acting as a signalling agent on human Fallopian tubal epithelial cells grown as a polarized layer in primary culture. The response of the tubal epithelium was assessed in terms of the transepithelial potential difference and short-circuit current (I(scc)), which were recorded using a modified Ussing chamber. Resistance was calculated from the measurements of potential difference and I(scc). PAF (1.9 nmol to 1.9 micromol l(-1)) administered to the apical surface of the cells produced a marked, transient increase in both potential difference and I(scc) in a dose-dependent manner. The mode of action of PAF on the electrophysiological responses of human tubal epithelial cells was investigated. Blockers of Na(+), K(+) and voltage-operated Ca(2+) channels had little effect on PAF action. However, incubation of the epithelial cells in Cl(-)free medium or with a blocker of the Na(+)-K(+)-2Cl(-) cotransporter (Furosemide) reduced the effect of PAF. Blockade of chloride-bicarbonate channels with 4-acetamido-4'-iso-thiocyanostilbene-2.2'-disulphonic acid (SITS) reduced the effect of low doses of PAF only. These results indicate that PAF influences the movement of chloride ions across the tubal epithelial cell and is a candidate molecule for initial embryo-maternal dialogue. 相似文献

Although automation is playing an increasing role on the ship's bridge, empirical research on the effectiveness of alternative bridge designs is limited. In this paper, we describe an experimental study of the benefits of integrated information display, using a computerized simulation of a highly automated ship's bridge. The study compared three types of interface design, which presented radar and electronic chart information to the operator in different ways: (a) integrated display, (b) functionally-separate display, and (c) spatially-separate display. Effects were examined in relation to time on watch and scenario complexity. Following extensive training on the task, 39 participants were tested over a 4-h experimental session, during which they encountered a sequence of collision scenarios of varying complexity. Using a dual-task methodology, a range of measures of primary and secondary task performance were taken, together with assessment of information sampling behaviour and subjective operator state (workload, fatigue, anxiety and situation awareness). The results indicated slight navigational advantages of the integrated display over the two alternative display types, although it also incurred higher levels of operator cost, particularly fatigue. There were no marked effects of time on watch, but more complex scenarios were associated with impaired performance, increased workload and reduced situation awareness. Overall, the findings have suggested some benefits of integrating primary information sources in a ship's bridge environment. The study further confirms the value of experimental simulations as tools for investigating design issues for ship's bridge automation. 相似文献
