The evolution of investigations into glass properties is described with the use of the SciGlass information system on the basis of an analysis of the world literature on glass from the end of the 19th century to the present day. Variations in the total amount of published data, in the interest of researchers in certain glass components and their properties, in the specific features of forming research groups, and in the general quality of publications are considered. Measures are proposed that can prevent a further decline in the quality of published experimental results.  相似文献

The gel-to-glass transition in SiO2 xerogels prepared by inorganic sol-gel synthesis was studied. The evolution of the molecular structure is traced using the infrared and lowfrequency Raman spectroscopy methods. The elastic moduli of the samples as well as the pore wall moduli at various stages of heat treatment are determined from the data on Brillouin scattering. The formation of monolithic glass on the macroscopic level manifests itself within a narrow temperature range by the dramatic increase of Young's modulus to the accepted value for fused silica. This phenomenon coincides with structural transformations on the molecular scale: (i) the definite correlation radius (the long-range order sphere) appears; (ii) local distortions of the silica network relax. The presence of structural defects influences the kinetics of vitreous SiO2 formation during xerogel heat treatment.  相似文献

The effect of deformation temperature on microstructure evolution during equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was studied in a coarse-grained aluminum alloy 2219 in a wide temperature interval from 250 to 475 °C. The structural changes taking place during ECAP up to strains of 12 are classified into the following three stages irrespective of deformation temperatures: i.e. (1) an incubation period for formation of the embryos of deformation bands (DBs) at low strains; (2) development of large-scale DBs followed by grain fragmentation at moderate strains; (3) rapid development of new grain at high strains. Microstructure development in stages 1 and 2 is hardly influenced by temperature, while that in stage 3 is most significantly affected at higher temperature. An increase in the pressing temperature leads to decreasing the volume fraction of new grains and increasing the average grain size in stage 3. This can be attributed to relaxation of strain compatibility between grains due to frequent operation of dynamic recovery and grain boundary sliding at higher temperature. DNA from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues, which are frequently utilized in cancer research, is significantly affected by chemical degradation. It was suggested that approaches that are based on duplex sequencing can significantly improve the accuracy of mutation detection in FFPE-derived DNA. However, the original duplex sequencing method cannot be utilized for the analysis of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues, as FFPE DNA contains an excessive number of damaged bases, and these lesions are converted to false double-strand nucleotide substitutions during polymerase-driven DNA end repair process. To resolve this drawback, we replaced DNA polymerase by a single strand-specific nuclease P1. Nuclease P1 was shown to efficiently remove RNA from DNA preparations, to fragment the FFPE-derived DNA and to remove 5′/3′-overhangs. To assess the performance of duplex sequencing-based methods in FFPE-derived DNA, we constructed the Bottleneck Sequencing System (BotSeqS) libraries from five colorectal carcinomas (CRCs) using either DNA polymerase or nuclease P1. As expected, the number of identified mutations was approximately an order of magnitude higher in libraries prepared with DNA polymerase vs. nuclease P1 (626 ± 167/Mb vs. 75 ± 37/Mb, paired t-test p-value 0.003). Furthermore, the use of nuclease P1 but not polymerase-driven DNA end repair allowed a reliable discrimination between CRC tumors with and without hypermutator phenotypes. The utility of newly developed modification was validated in the collection of 17 CRCs and 5 adjacent normal tissues. Nuclease P1 can be recommended for the use in duplex sequencing library preparation from FFPE-derived DNA.  相似文献

A study of the mechanisms of grain refinement in the process of severe plastic deformation of two aluminum alloys, i.e., 2219 bearing nanometric particles of Al3Zr and low-alloy Al-3% Cu, is described. The alloys are deformed by the method of equal channel angular pressing at 250°C to a maximum strain degree of about 12. The angles of (sub)grain boundaries in alloy 2219 are determined with the help of transmission electron microscopy by the method of Kikuchi lines. A variant of statistical processing of the data available in the literature is proposed with the aim of determining the most probable concentration dependences of the properties of binary glasses. The experimental data are processed using the SciGlass information system. Specific examples illustrating the application of the proposed method are given. The general potentialities of using the most probable concentration dependences of the properties of binary glasses both in research practice and in preparing and reviewing the papers containing new experimental data are analyzed.  相似文献

Rafiq syndrome (RAFQS) is a congenital disorder of glycosylation (CDG) that is caused by mutations in the MAN1B1 gene and characterized by impaired protein and lipid glycosylation. RAFQS is characterized by a delay in intellectual and motor development, facial and other dysmorphism, truncal obesity, behavior problems, and hypotonia. We describe a Russian patient with delayed intellectual and motor development, a lack of speech, disorientation in space and time, impaired attention and memory, and episodes of aggression. Screening for lysosomal, amino acid, organic acid, and mitochondrial disorders was normal. The patient was referred for the targeted sequencing of the “Hereditary Metabolic Disorders” panel. The genetic testing revealed two heterozygous pathogenic variants in the MAN1B1 gene: the previously reported c.1000C > T (p.Arg334Cys) and the novel c.1065 + 1 G > C. Thus, the patient’s clinical picture and genetic analysis confirmed RAFQS in the patient.  相似文献
