In this paper an attempt is made to extend the problem of fatigue fracture of a rectangular block under alternating tension cycles solved by Thomas [1], so as to embrace a wider range of fluctuating stress cycles created by numerically unequal tensile and compressive loads which act alternately on the block. Endurance limits have been obtained for various types of fluctuating loads and those for simple tension (compression) cycles and alternating tension cycles are deduced therefrom. Also. the slip moduli k and K and the fatigue moduli α and ω of the material are determined.  相似文献

The effect of swift heavy 100 MeV Ag7+ ions irradiation was studied on hydroxyapatite (HAp) thin film prepared by pulsed laser deposition technique (PLD). The GIXRD analysis confirmed the absence of any phase in the HAp phase due to irradiation. In addition, there was a considerable decrease in crystallinity and crystallite size on irradiation. There was no significant variation in the stoichiometry of the irradiated films. Irradiation seemed to decrease the optical band gap energy of HAp thin films. The surface roughness, wettability and bioactivity were improved on irradiation of the samples. Amount of amoxicillin loading/release increased (10%) in ion beam irradiated (1 × 1012 ions cm−2) sample. Irradiated sample showed fast rate of amoxicillin (AMX) release than the pristine. Bactericidal effect was found to increase on irradiation. Surface modified and antibiotics incorporated HAp coated titanium implants may be used to prevent post-surgical infections and to promote bone-bonding of orthopedic devices.  相似文献

The present work presents a method to encapsulate pre-synthesised Ru nanoparticles (NPs) by Pt using a polyol method without capping agents at various pH values (6, 7, 8 and 10). The structural and surface properties of the catalysts were characterised using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, CO stripping, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The studies suggest that the pH during encapsulation of Ru by Pt plays an important role in controlling of shell composition. A core–shell catalyst with an alloy shell was obtained at a pH of 6, whereas a monometallic Pt shell was obtained at a pH of 10. The core–shell catalysts gave higher steady-state current for methanol oxidation: 10-fold higher for alloy shells and 5-fold higher for Pt-enriched shells compared to the pure Pt catalyst. It is suggested that the highest catalytic enhancement of the core–shell catalysts is obtained through the bi-functional character that dominates the alloy shells rather than the ligand-effect-promoted Pt-enriched shells.  相似文献

The main objective of the present study is to develop a low cost microcomputer-based respiratory system that is capable of computing the oxygen consumption and minute ventilation of individuals engaged in manual materials handling on an on-line basis. A mathematical model has been proposed for predicting the changes in soil nitrogen status due to continuous fertilization in a continuous cropping sequence. The model also enabled the prediction of the steady state of soil nitrogen for a specified fertilizer practice.The model was applied to six years nitrogen availability data of four fertilizer practices in finger millet-maize-cowpea sequence followed in the Long Term Fertilizer Experiments conducted at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India. The agreement between the predicted soil nitrogen status by the model and the actuals was proved by employing reliability index.  相似文献

Transgenic mice expressing the polyomavirus (PyV) middle T antigen (MT) develop multifocal mammary tumors which frequently metastasize to the lung. The potent transforming activity of PyV MT is correlated with its capacity to activate and associate with a number of signaling molecules, including the Src family tyrosine kinases, the 85-kDa Src homology 2 subunit of the phosphatidylinositol 3' (PI-3') kinase, and the Shc adapter protein. To uncover the role of these signaling proteins in MT-mediated mammary tumorigenesis, we have generated transgenic mice that express mutant PyV MT antigens decoupled from either the Shc or the PI-3' kinase signaling pathway. In contrast to the rapid induction of metastatic mammary tumors observed in the strains expressing wild-type PyV MT, mammary epithelial cell-specific expression of either mutant PyV MT resulted in the induction of extensive mammary epithelial hyperplasias. The mammary epithelial hyperplasias expressing the mutant PyV MT defective in recruiting the PI-3' kinase were highly apoptotic, suggesting that recruitment of PI-3' kinase by MT affects cell survival. Whereas the initial phenotypes observed in both strains were global mammary epithelial hyperplasias, focal mammary tumors eventually arose in all female transgenic mice. Genetic and biochemical analyses of tumorigenesis in the transgenic strains expressing the PyV MT mutant lacking the Shc binding site revealed that a proportion of the metastatic tumors arising in these mice displayed evidence of reversion of the mutant Shc binding site. In contrast, no evidence of reversion of the PI-3' kinase binding site was noted in tumors derived from the strains expressing the PI-3' kinase binding site MT mutant. Tumor progression in both mutant strains was further correlated with upregulation of the epidermal growth factor receptor family members which are known to couple to the PI-3' kinase and Shc signaling pathways. Taken together, these observations suggest that PyV MT-mediated tumorigenesis requires activation of both Shc and PI-3' kinase, which appear to be required for stimulation of cell proliferation and survival signaling pathways, respectively.  相似文献
