Workers in medium- or high-risk professions are often confronted with critical incidents at the workplace. The impact of these acute stressors may be serious and enduring. Many workers also experience chronic job stressors, such as work overload or role conflicts. This study examined the frequently neglected relationship of acute and chronic stressors with self-reported health symptoms, such as posttraumatic responses, fatigue, and burnout. This association was investigated in a sample of forensic doctors in the Netherlands (N = 84). It was found that the more traumatic events the respondents experienced, the more problems they reported in coping with the traumatic events. The interaction of the two chemical homologues [Cm(III) and Eu(III)] with calcium silicate hydrates (CSH phases) at pH 13.3 has been investigated in batch-type sorption studies using Eu(III) and complemented with time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy (TRLFS) using Cm(III). The sorption data for Eu(III) reveal fast sorption kinetics and a strong uptake by CSH phases with distribution ratios of (6 +/- 3) x 10(5) L kg(-1). Three different Cm(III) species have been identified: A nonfluorescing species, which was identified as a curium hydroxide (surface) precipitate, and two fluorescing Cm(III)/CSH-sorbed species. The fluorescing sorbed species have characteristic emission spectra with main peak maxima at 618.9 and 620.9 nm and fluorescence emission lifetimes of 289 +/- 11 and 1482 +/- 200 micros, respectively. From the fluorescence lifetimes, it was calculated that the two fluorescing Cm(III) species have one or two and no water molecules left in their first coordination sphere, suggesting that these species are incorporated into the CSH structure. A structural model for Cm(III) and Eu(III) incorporation into CSH phases is proposed based on the substitution for Ca at two different types of sites in the CSH structure.  相似文献

The Impact of Event Scale (ES; M. J. Horowitz, N. Wilner, & W. Alvarez, 1979) is a worldwide-used self-report measure to assess the frequency of intrusive and avoidant phenomena after a variety of traumatic experiences. The purpose of this article is to assess the psychometric value of the Dutch version of the IES (D. Brom & R. J. Kleber, 1985) in several samples of individuals who had experienced various traumatic stressors. The reliability and structure of the IES were evaluated in 3 different samples (total N = 1.588). The reliability of the Dutch version of the IES was adequate across the various stressors. The construct validity was assessed by using confirmatory factor analyses. The physical properties of aerosols are reviewed. The physiological basis of inhalation therapy is then briefly reviewed together with the aerosol devices currently available and the therapeutic uses of inhaled drugs, focusing on the treatment of parenchymal lung diseases and extra respiratory disorders. Genetically encoded probes have become powerful tools for non-invasive monitoring of ions, distributions of proteins and the migration and formation of cellular components. We describe the functional expression of two molecular probes for non-invasive fluorescent monitoring of intracellular Cl ([Cl]i) and the functioning of glycine receptor (GlyR) channels. The first probe is a recently developed cyan fluorescent protein-yellow fluorescent protein-based construct, termed Cl-Sensor, with relatively high sensitivity to Cl (Kapp approximately 30mM). In this study, we describe its expression in retina cells using in vivo electroporation and analyse changes in [Cl]i at depolarization and during the first three weeks of post-natal development. An application of 40mM K+ causes an elevation in [Cl]i of approximately 40mM. In photoreceptors from retina slices of a 6-day-old rat (P6 rat), the mean [Cl]i is approximately 50mM, and for P16 and P21 rats it is approximately 30-35mM. The second construct, termed BioSensor-GlyR, is a GlyR channel with Cl-Sensor incorporated into the cytoplasmic domain. This is the first molecular probe for spectroscopic monitoring of the functioning of receptor-operated channels. These types of probes offer a means of screening pharmacological agents and monitoring Cl under different physiological and pathological conditions and permit spectroscopic monitoring of the activity of GlyRs expressed in heterologous systems and neurons.  相似文献

Abstract

This report describes the separation, characterization, and analysis of products formed during the Shipp hexanitrostilbene (HNS) process. In this process, trinitrotoluene (TNT), dissolved in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran (THF) and methanol (MeOH), reacts with commercial bleach (NaOCl) to form HNS. The identified products include: hexanitrostilbene (HNS), hexanitrobibenzyl (HNBiB), trinitrobenzene (TNB), trinitrobenzoic acid (PiCOOH), trinitrobenzaldehyde (PiCHO), trinitrobenzyl chloride (PiCH2Cl), picryl chloride (PiCl), picric acid (PiOH), trinitrobenzyl alcohol (PiCH2OH), 4,6-dinitro [2,1] benzisoxazole (Anil), and trichloronitromethane (chloropicrin) as well as unreacted TNT. An additional study was made of the PiCH2Cl → HNS reaction which was the source of the red tar components. Approximately 5–10% of the red tar fraction could not be identified. Solvent effects on the yield of several of the above cited by-products are also discussed.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to rationalize the shape of membrane permeability-lipophilicity curves, when considering, in addition to the usual transcellular route, a parallel diffusion pathway through aqueous pores as present in biological membranes. The theoretical influence of different pH in donor and acceptor compartment and the molecular weight on the permeability curves was studied. We combined and extended two previously proposed absorption models, namely one describing diffusion through a simple membrane (two stagnant aqueous and two organic layers in series, no pores) as the sum of the two distribution steps at both membrane interfaces, and a second theoretical model considering the sum of different diffusional resistances through stagnant layers and membrane, respectively. Under certain conditions the equivalence of the two-step distribution model and the diffusional resistance model can be demonstrated. Incorporation of an aqueous diffusion pathway leads to an extended two-step distribution model. This theoretical membrane permeation model will permit a more physicochemical-based interpretation of permeation data and shows that combined log D values and molecular weight are important determinants for membrane transport processes through, e.g. Caco-2 monolayers and the mucosal GI membranes. We have demonstrated that the well-known sigmoidal permeability-lipophilicity relationship should be considered as a molecular weight-dependent set of sigmoidal relationships.  相似文献

In this paper we study a dynamic version of capacity maximization in the physical model of wireless communication. In our model, requests for connections between pairs of points in Euclidean space of constant dimension d arrive iteratively over time. When a new request arrives, an online algorithm needs to decide whether or not to accept the request and to assign one out of k channels and a transmission power to the request. Accepted requests must satisfy constraints on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise (SINR) ratio. The objective is to maximize the number of accepted requests. Using competitive analysis we study algorithms using distance-based power assignments, for which the power of a request relies only on the distance between the points. Such assignments are inherently local and particularly useful in distributed settings. We first focus on the case of a single channel. For request sets with spatial lengths in [1,Δ] and duration in [1,Γ] we derive a lower bound of Ω(Γ d/2) on the competitive ratio of any deterministic online algorithm using a distance-based power assignment. Our main result is a near-optimal deterministic algorithm that is O(Γ(d/2)+ε )-competitive, for any constant ε>0. Our algorithm for a single channel can be generalized to k channels. It can be adjusted to yield a competitive ratio of O(k?Γ 1/k(d/2k″)+ε ) for any factorization (k′,k″) such that k′?k″=k. This illustrates the effectiveness of multiple channels when dealing with unknown request sequences. In particular, for Θ(log?Γ?log?Δ) channels this yields an O(log?Γ?log?Δ)-competitive algorithm. Additionally, we show how this approach can be turned into a randomized algorithm, which is O(log?Γ?log?Δ)-competitive even for a single channel.  相似文献

The alveolar epithelium of the lung is by far the most permeable epithelial barrier of the human body. The risk for adverse effects by inhaled nanoparticles (NPs) depends on their hazard (negative action on cells and organism) and on exposure (concentration in the inhaled air and pattern of deposition in the lung). With the development of advanced in vitro models, not only in vivo, but also cellular studies can be used for toxicological testing. Advanced in vitro studies use combinations of cells cultured in the air-liquid interface. These cultures are useful for particle uptake and mechanistic studies. Whole-body, nose-only, and lung-only exposures of animals could help to determine retention of NPs in the body. Both approaches also have their limitations; cellular studies cannot mimic the entire organism and data obtained by inhalation exposure of rodents have limitations due to differences in the respiratory system from that of humans. Simulation programs for lung deposition in humans could help to determine the relevance of the biological findings. Combination of biological data generated in different biological models and in silico modeling appears suitable for a realistic estimation of potential risks by inhalation exposure to NPs.  相似文献
