The paper describes an approach taken to estimate the probabilities of failure associated with various railroad tasks to prevent accidents (principally collisions and derailments). These probabilities were estimated using an expert elicitation process that used partially relevant data available from a variety of databases and that were filtered and scaled to make them more directly relevant to the analyses being performed. Extensive qualitative studies were performed prior to the elicitation process to identify relevant contexts under which the tasks can be performed.  相似文献

Neurological complications of radiotherapy and chemotherapy can affect the central or peripheral nervous system. Most are dose-dependent and constitute a limiting factor in the administration of treatments. Radiation-induced neurological complications are classified as acute, early-delayed or delayed. The most important are radionecrosis and cognitive dysfunction/leukoencephalopathy. Neurotoxicity of chemotherapy is frequent and depends upon dose, type of drugs (especially cisplatin and methotrexate) and their combination with radiotherapy.  相似文献

This article shows how the fracture energy of concrete, as well as other fracture parameters such as the effective length of the fracture process zone, critical crack-tip opening displacement and the fracture toughness, can be approximately predicted from the standard compression strength, maximum aggregate size, water-cement ratio, and aggregate type (river or crushed). A database, consisting of 238 test data, is extracted from the literature and tabulated, and approximate mean prediction formulae calibrated by this very large data set are developed. A distinction is made between (a) the fracture energy, Gf, corresponding to the area under the initial tangent of the softening stress-separation curve of cohesive crack model, which governs the maximum loads of structures and is obtained by the size effect method (SEM) or related methods (Jenq-Shah two-parameter method and Karihaloo's effective crack model, ECM) and (b) the fracture energy, GF, corresponding to the area under the complete stress-separation curve, which governs large postpeak deflections of structures and is obtained by the work-of-fracture method (WFM) proposed for concrete by Hillerborg. The coefficients of variation of the errors in the prediction formulae compared to the test data are calculated; they are 17.8% for Gf and 29.9% for GF, the latter being 1.67 times higher than the former. Although the errors of the prediction formulae taking into account the differences among different concretes doubtless contribute significantly to the high values of these coefficients of variation, there is no reason for a bias of the statistics in favor of Gf or GF. Thus, the statistics indicate that the fracture energy based on the measurements in the maximum load region is much less uncertain than that based on the measurement of the tail of the postpeak load-deflection curve. While both Gf and GF are needed for accurate structural analysis, it follows that if the testing standard should measure, for the sake of simplicity, only one of these two fracture energies, then Gf is preferable.  相似文献

Cluster analysis is concerned with the problem of partitioning a given set of entities into homogeneous and well-separated subsets called clusters. The concepts of homogeneity and of separation can be made precise when a measure of dissimilarity between the entities is given. Let us define the diameter of a partition of the given set of entities into clusters as the maximum dissimilarity between any pair of entities in the same cluster and the split of a partition as the minimum dissimilarity between entities in different clusters. The problems of determining a partition into a given number of clusters with minimum diameter (i.e., a partition of maximum homogeneity) or with maximum split (i.e., a partition of maximum separation) are first considered. It is shown that the latter problem can be solved by the classical single-link clustering algorithm, while the former can be solved by a graph-theoretic algorithm involving the optimal coloration of a sequence of partial graphs, described in more detail in a previous paper. A partition into a given number of clusters will be called efficient if and only if there exists no partition into at most the same number of clusters with smaller diameter and not smaller split or with larger split and not larger diameter. Two efficient partitions are called equivalent if and only if they have the same values for the split and for the diameter.  相似文献

Gamma Irradiation of Starch Samples Contaminated with Anaerobic Germs . Of the starch samples examined only a small part contained spores of mesophilic Clostridia. None of the samples showed signs of presence of rigidly thermophilic varieties and of Clostridium botulinum or Clostridium perfringens. 14 groups of germs were isolated from the dry products of starch industry. At least one germ group showed an activation phenomenon and a probable survival rate of 300% at 75 krad. This is true for the germ group which appears most frequently with starch and can be identified as Clostridium sporogenes. Gamma irradiation does not neutralize lysozyme dependence of the Clostridium perfringens germ which has this property. With a few reservations the standards for germ content which have been set for Bacillus spores can be also used for Clostridium spores.  相似文献

SARS-CoV-2 variants raise concern because of their high transmissibility and their ability to evade neutralizing antibodies elicited by prior infection or by vaccination. Here, we compared the neutralizing abilities of sera from 70 unvaccinated COVID-19 patients infected before the emergence of variants of concern (VOCs) and of 16 vaccine breakthrough infection (BTI) cases infected with Gamma or Delta against the ancestral B.1 strain, the Gamma, Delta and Omicron BA.1 VOCs using live virus. We further determined antibody levels against the Nucleocapsid (N) and full Spike proteins, the receptor-binding domain (RBD) and the N-terminal domain (NTD) of the Spike protein. Convalescent sera featured considerable variability in the neutralization of B.1 and in the cross-neutralization of different strains. Their neutralizing capacity moderately correlated with antibody levels against the Spike protein and the RBD. All but one convalescent serum failed to neutralize Omicron BA.1. Overall, convalescent sera from patients with moderate disease had higher antibody levels and displayed a higher neutralizing ability against all strains than patients with mild or severe forms of the disease. The sera from BTI cases fell into one of two categories: half the sera had a high neutralizing activity against the ancestral B.1 strain as well as against the infecting strain, while the other half had no or a very low neutralizing activity against all strains. Although antibody levels against the spike protein and the RBD were lower in BTI sera than in unvaccinated convalescent sera, most neutralizing sera also retained partial neutralizing activity against Omicron BA.1, suggestive of a better cross-neutralization and higher affinity of vaccine-elicited antibodies over virus-induced antibodies. Accordingly, the IC50: antibody level ratios were comparable for BTI and convalescent sera, but remained lower in the neutralizing convalescent sera from patients with moderate disease than in BTI sera. The neutralizing activity of BTI sera was strongly correlated with antibodies against the Spike protein and the RBD. Together, these findings highlight qualitative differences in antibody responses elicited by infection in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. They further indicate that breakthrough infection with a pre-Omicron variant boosts immunity and induces cross-neutralizing antibodies against different strains, including Omicron BA.1.  相似文献

The quality of the gate oxide is a central parameter for power MOSFET devices dedicated to automotive applications. Reliability is systematically evaluated through electrical tests. The purpose of this study is to apply the QBD test directly at probe–die–wafer level and to correlate its results with reliability test conclusions. In other words, this new kind of QBD test is a monitor of power MOSFET robustness which helps identify extrinsic failures and the process steps responsible. In summary, it is an accurate and fast measurement method of identifying weakened parts and enhancing device quality.  相似文献

Mitochondrial dysfunctions are implicated in several pathologies, such as metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological diseases, as well as in cancer and aging. These metabolic alterations are usually assessed in human or murine samples by mitochondrial respiratory chain enzymatic assays, by measuring the oxygen consumption of intact mitochondria isolated from tissues, or from cells obtained after physical or enzymatic disruption of the tissues. However, these methodologies do not maintain tissue multicellular organization and cell-cell interactions, known to influence mitochondrial metabolism. Here, we develop an optimal model to measure mitochondrial oxygen consumption in heart and lung tissue samples using the XF24 Extracellular Flux Analyzer (Seahorse) and discuss the advantages and limitations of this technological approach. Our results demonstrate that tissue organization, as well as mitochondrial ultrastructure and respiratory function, are preserved in heart and lung tissues freshly processed or after overnight conservation at 4 °C. Using this method, we confirmed the repeatedly reported obesity-associated mitochondrial dysfunction in the heart and extended it to the lungs. We set up and validated a new strategy to optimally assess mitochondrial function in murine tissues. As such, this method is of great potential interest for monitoring mitochondrial function in cohort samples.  相似文献
