A case of metachronous malignancy in an elderly postmenopausal lady is presented. She had previously been successfully treated for squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix and now four years later, presented with a right lower lobe lung abscess. On evaluation she was found to have a small cell carcinoma of the lung involving the right intermediate and right lower lobe bronchus. She improved clinically and radiologically with parenteral antibiotics, combination chemotherapy and local external radiotherapy. 相似文献

The data from literature on certain biological and functional peculiarities of fibronectin which is a high molecular connective tissue glycoprotein of the intercellular matrix are reviewed. Various features of fibronectin, such as its promoting action in cell adhesion, participation in cytodifferentiation, embryogenesis and regeneration are discussed. Several points of view about fibronectin participation in neoplastic transformation are mentioned. The unique five‐membered aminocyclitol core of the antitumor antibiotic pactamycin originates from d ‐glucose, so unprecedented enzymatic modifications of the sugar intermediate are involved in the biosynthesis. However, the order of the modification reactions remains elusive. Herein, we examined the timing of introduction of an amino group into certain sugar‐derived intermediates by using recombinant enzymes that were encoded in the pactamycin biosynthesis gene cluster. We found that the NAD+‐dependent alcohol dehydrogenase PctP and pyridoxal 5′‐phosphate dependent aminotransferase PctC converted N‐acetyl‐d ‐glucosaminyl‐3‐aminoacetophonone into 3′‐amino‐3′‐deoxy‐N‐acetyl‐d ‐glucosaminyl‐3‐aminoacetophenone. Further, N‐acetyl‐d ‐glucosaminyl‐3‐aminophenyl‐β‐oxopropanoic acid ethyl ester was converted into the corresponding 3′‐amino derivative. However, PctP did not oxidize most of the tested d ‐glucose derivatives, including UDP‐GlcNAc. Thus, modification of the GlcNAc moiety in pactamycin biosynthesis appears to occur after the glycosylation of aniline derivatives. 相似文献

Objectification has been defined historically as a process of subjugation whereby people, like objects, are treated as means to an end. The authors hypothesized that objectification is a response to social power that involves approaching useful social targets regardless of the value of their other human qualities. Six studies found that under conditions of power, approach toward a social target was driven more by the target's usefulness, defined in terms of the perceiver's goals, than in low-power and baseline conditions. This instrumental response to power, which was linked to the presence of an active goal, was observed using multiple instantiations of power, different measures of approach, a variety of goals, and several types of instrumental and noninstrumental target attributes. Multiple drug resistance and treatment of contaminated water has become a serious issue in past years. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), being bactericidal, non‐toxic, cheap and environment friendly behaviour, have drawn attention to overcome these problems. This study has been designed to synthesise AgNPs from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. AgNPs formation was confirmed by colour change and UV–vis spectroscopy. Furthermore, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy peaks demonstrated the presence of capped proteins as reducing and stabilising agent. Transmission electron microscopy micrograph revealed spherical shape AgNPs with the size ranging between 10 and 20 nm. Antibacterial activity of AgNPs was evaluated against the most prevalent waterborne pathogens enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli and Salmonellae typhimurium. Moreover, the antibacterial activity of AgNPs was tested for the treatment of contaminated water which showed attenuation in bacterial load within 8 h as demonstrated by growth kinetics data. Furthermore, AgNPs did not exhibit haemolytic effects on human red blood cells (RBCs) even at 100 mg L−1 concentration of AgNPs. The results herein suggest that AgNPs synthesised by P. aeruginosa under optimised conditions exhibit microbicidal property against waterborne pathogens and having no toxic effect on human RBCs. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) was used to study the crystallization phenomena in Y2 O3 -Al2 O3 fibers formed via a melt extraction process. Such fibers are X-ray amorphous and optically transparent regardless of composition in the as-extracted state but can be crystallized to produce various equilibrium phases that depend on the original composition of the ceramic rods used in the extraction process. The activation energy values were calculated using Kissinger and Augis-Bennett equations by measuring the variation of the peak temperature in the differential thermal patterns with heating rate. X-ray diffractometry analysis was used to determine the phase formation in the fibers crystallized after the DTA scan. 相似文献
