In the field of biomaterials and biomedical devices, surface activation has been focused on creating functional groups capable of preferential adsorption of biologically active species (proteins, enzymes, cells, drugs, etc.). In this way an interface can be created between the synthetic material and the biological medium, with the aim of increasing the compatibility of the implant with the human organism. In our experiments a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), in helium at atmospheric pressure, was used as the source of energy capable of creating active centers that render the functionalized surface favorable to immobilization of biological molecules. Retention of immunoglobulin (IgG) and heparin biomolecules on polyamide‐6 (PA‐6) surfaces after treatment by the DBD was analyzed by atomic force microscopy, adhesion evaluation, and measurement of the contact angle titration in order to assess this incorporation on the treated surfaces. The marked adsorption of the biomolecules on the active sites created by DBD on the exposed surfaces also was related to a complex set of processes, such as enhanced roughness, increased surface wettability, and modified distribution of cationic and anionic groups on the treated surfaces. All these factors could promote interfacial interactions between the specific groups of the biomolecules existing in the biological medium and the type of cationic and/or anionic groups present on the surface. The efficiency of the DBD treatment showed that the DBD technique is useful for preactivation of the polymer surface for immobilization of other biologically active species (such as drugs and enzymes). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bioorthogonal chemistry can be used for the selective modification of biomolecules without interfering with any other functionality that might be present. Recent developments in the field include orthogonal bioorthogonal reactions to modify multiple biomolecules simultaneously. During our research, we observed that the reaction rates for the bioorthogonal inverse‐electron‐demand Diels–Alder (iEDDA) reactions between nonstrained vinylboronic acids (VBAs) and dipyridyl‐s‐tetrazines were exceptionally higher than those between VBAs and tetrazines bearing a methyl or phenyl substituent. As VBAs are mild Lewis acids, we hypothesised that coordination of the pyridyl nitrogen atom to the boronic acid promoted tetrazine ligation. Herein, we explore the molecular basis and scope of VBA–tetrazine ligation in more detail and benefit from its unique reactivity in the simultaneous orthogonal tetrazine labelling of two proteins modified with VBA and norbornene, a widely used strained alkene. We further show that the two orthogonal iEDDA reactions can be performed in living cells by labelling the proteasome by using a nonselective probe equipped with a VBA and a subunit‐selective VBA bearing a norbornene moiety.  相似文献

0.5 wt% Pd-doped titanium oxide thin films were obtained by dip-coating on silicon substrates. The films were compacted by annealing in air at 300 and 500 °C. Temperature dependent electrical conductivity measurements were performed in the temperature range 373–623 K, in different environments (air, methane, acetone, ethanol, formaldehyde and liquefied petroleum gas), to test the films sensing gas properties. Formaldehyde was found to be the test gas that produces the most significant changes in the electrical conductivity of the studied films. This was the reason why it was chosen to investigate its effect on their electrical conductivity. A model was proposed, the model of the potential fluctuations at grain boundaries. A comparison between some parameters obtained in the proposed model was performed as a function of annealing temperature, and as a function of gas atmosphere. The values of the mean barrier height and the standard deviation were estimated to range between 0.336–0.588 eV and 0.175–0.199 eV, respectively. It was found that formaldehyde leads to a rather sharp decrease in the values of the barrier height and the standard deviation, and to an increase in the conductivity. We have observed the best sensing gas performance for the films annealed at 300 °C, comparing to their counterparts annealed at 500 °C, explained by the lowest values of the barrier energy height and the standard deviation.  相似文献

Thyroid cancers     
We have analysed factors that influenced on the patient survival in 195 cases of thyroid cancer. The survival is essentially influenced by the histology, the papillary forms (survival after 15 years: 83.1-93%) and follicular cancers (survival after 15 years: 84-94%) having an excellent evolution. The non-differentiated and mixed cancers have a very severe prognosis that is independent of the complex therapy that have been used (survival after 5 years: 17.1% in non-differentiated forms and 32.5% in mixed ones). The prognosis is better in subjects under the age of 45 and in female subjects. The cancers in the 1-st and 2-nd stage of tumor extension have a better evolution that those in the 3-rd stage. In differentiated cancers, the total or subtotal thyroidectomy followed by radioiodine administration determine the best survival.  相似文献

This investigation presents the synthesis of simultaneous interpenetrating polymer networks based on dimethacrylic/epoxy resins with or without polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) via in situ polymerization. The curing behavior was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The influence of the organic groups from the POSS cages on the curing kinetics of the IPNs was also studied by FT-IR spectrometry. The homogeneous phase structure of the cured IPN was proved by DMA tests. Additionally the integrity of the IPN was also demonstrated by thermal decomposition which occurs in one single step.  相似文献
