We consider the flow of a viscoelastic fluid in a symmetric cross geometry. For small driving pressures the flow is symmetric, but beyond a certain critical pressure the symmetric flow becomes unstable; two stable asymmetric solutions appear, and forcing of the unstable symmetric flow beyond the critical pressure gives rise to increased hydraulic resistance. We have combined a state-of-the-art implementation for viscoelastic flow modeling with topology optimization in a high level finite element package (COMSOL). We use this framework on the cross geometry with the aim to reduce the critical driving pressure corresponding to the point of bistability, such that the effect is enhanced. The point of bistability is, however, not explicitly contained in the solution, so we opt for a heuristic approach based on the dissipation ratio between the asymmetric and unstable symmetric flow solutions. We find a design that significantly reduces the driving pressure required for bistability, and furthermore is in agreement with the approach followed by experimental researchers. Furthermore, by comparing the two asymmetric solutions, we succesfully apply the same approach to a problem with two fluids meeting in the cross.  相似文献

Different Input Topologies with resistance to electromagnetic interferences (EMI) are analyzed and compared in terms of EMI reduction. The emphasis in this study is put on circuit robustness and applicability to industrial applications, which requires sufficient EMI rejection over all process corners. Furthermore, a new topology based on a replica amplifier is introduced, that is more robust to process variation compared to previous works (Jean-Michel Redouté and Michiel Steyaert, ESSCIRC, Sept. 2008; Fiori, IEEE Transac Electromag Compat 49(4):834–839, 2007) that rely on accurate matching of absolute values in order to achieve efficient EMI cancellation.  相似文献

The aim of this investigation was to determine whether the regioselectivity found for lipoxygenases in the formation of fatty acid hydroperoxides from linoleic acid is reflected in the formation of dimeric products in secondary reactions involving linoleic acid, product hydroperoxide and lipoxygenase. A method was therefore developed for the separation and identification of dimers formed by fusion of two linoleic acid radicals or a linoleic acid radical and linoleate. The method includes solid-phase extraction, preparative separation of products by thin-layer chromatography, derivatization to the corresponding fully hydrogenated methyl esters and capillary gas chromatography (GC) coupled with electron impact mass spectrometry. We present evidence that the formation of octadecadienoate dimers, during the secondary reaction of soybean lipoxygenase-1 or lipoxygenase-3, is a nonenzymic process that can be envisaged by nonspecific association of intermediate fatty acid radicals (L*) that have dissociated from the enzyme. We could show that the relative amounts of different octadecadienoate dimers formed remain unaltered, regard-less of pH and type of soybean isoenzyme used. Quantitative analysis by GC showed that under the reaction conditions used, the formation of dimers branching at the 13-position is preferred.  相似文献

We present a versatile high‐level programming‐language implementation of non‐linear topology optimization. Our implementation is based on the commercial software package FEMLAB, and it allows a wide range of optimization objectives to be dealt with easily. We exemplify our method by studies of steady‐state Navier–Stokes flow problems, thus extending the work by Borrvall and Petersson on topology optimization of fluids in Stokes flow (Int. J. Num. Meth. Fluids 2003; 41 :77–107). We analyse the physical aspects of the solutions and how they are affected by different parameters of the optimization algorithm. There is a growing recognition that the interrelations between agriculture, food, bioenergy, and climate change have to be better understood in order to derive more realistic estimates of future bioenergy potentials. This article estimates global bioenergy potentials in the year 2050, following a "food first" approach. It presents integrated food, livestock, agriculture, and bioenergy scenarios for the year 2050 based on a consistent representation of FAO projections of future agricultural development in a global biomass balance model. The model discerns 11 regions, 10 crop aggregates, 2 livestock aggregates, and 10 food aggregates. It incorporates detailed accounts of land use, global net primary production (NPP) and its human appropriation as well as socioeconomic biomass flow balances for the year 2000 that are modified according to a set of scenario assumptions to derive the biomass potential for 2050. We calculate the amount of biomass required to feed humans and livestock, considering losses between biomass supply and provision of final products. Based on this biomass balance as well as on global land-use data, we evaluate the potential to grow bioenergy crops and estimate the residue potentials from cropland (forestry is outside the scope of this study). We assess the sensitivity of the biomass potential to assumptions on diets, agricultural yields, cropland expansion and climate change. We use the dynamic global vegetation model LPJmL to evaluate possible impacts of changes in temperature, precipitation, and elevated CO(2) on agricultural yields. We find that the gross (primary) bioenergy potential ranges from 64 to 161?EJ?y(-1), depending on climate impact, yields and diet, while the dependency on cropland expansion is weak. We conclude that food requirements for a growing world population, in particular feed required for livestock, strongly influence bioenergy potentials, and that integrated approaches are needed to optimize food and bioenergy supply.  相似文献

While the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC) with radiotherapy (RT) is complemented more and more by immunotherapy in clinical trials, little is known about the impact of the human papillomavirus (HPV) status or the applied RT scheme on the immune phenotype of the tumor cells. Therefore, we aimed to examine the impact of the HPV status of four human HNSCC cell lines on cell death and the expression of immune checkpoint molecules (ICMs) after RT with either hypofractionation irradiation (5x3.0Gy) or a high single dose (1x19.3Gy) via multicolor flow cytometry and quantitative PCR at an early time point after therapy. In our study, 5x3.0Gy RT induced high numbers of early and late apoptotic cells independent of the HPV status, but necrosis was only increased in the HPV-positive UM-Scc-47 cells. Generally, the immune stimulatory ICMs (CD70, CD137-L, ICOS-L) were less affected by RT compared to the immune suppressive ones (PD-L1, PD-L2, and the herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM)). A significant higher surface expression of the analyzed ICMs was found after hypofractionated RT compared to a single high dose; however, regardless of the HPV status, with the exception of ICOS-L. Here, HPV-positive HNSCC tumor cells showed a stronger response to 5x3.0Gy than HPV-negative ones. On the RNA level, only minor alterations of ICMs were observed following RT, with the exception of the HPV negative cell line CAL33 treated with 5x3.0Gy, where PD-L2, HVEM and CD70 were significantly increased. We conclude that the HPV status may not distinctly predict immunological responses following RT, and thus cannot be used as a single predictive marker for therapy responses in HNSCC. In contrast, the patient-specific individual expression of ICMs following RT is preferable for the targeted patient selection for immune therapy directed against distinct ICM.  相似文献
