Two banana starches were studied to analyze the effect of the acid hydrolysis on their molecular structure, and the impact in their physicochemical features. The native banana starches exhibit differences in the amylose content, molar mass, gelatinization parameters, X-ray diffraction pattern, and pasting profile. These results suggested that different acid hydrolysis mechanisms may be operative in these two starches. The kinetic hydrolysis is different in both banana starches that are related to the crystalline packing of the starch molecules. This was confirmed by the amylose content, the X-ray diffraction pattern, and the thermal study in the acid hydrolyzed starches at different times. The acid-treated Roatan starch showed higher retrogradation than Macho starch, a phenomenon that increases in the sample hydrolyzed for the longer time. This pattern is related to the amylose/amylopectin ratio, the reduction in the molar mass and the gyration radius. The acid hydrolysis of banana starches, although they have some similarities, they are different.  相似文献

A novel multichannel minireactor with channel internal diameter in the range of millimeters has been conceptually designed and constructed. Its configuration confers to the new concept reactor some features and advantages compared to conventional fixed-bed reactors g.e. better mass-transfer, avoid hot-spots formation, increased performance (10–20%). Consequently, this new reactor concept is ideal to be applied to exothermic reactions such as the Sabatier reaction that demands continuous removal of the heat produced to avoid hot-spot formation and the sintering of the catalyst. Thanks to its configuration, this reactor could control effectively the heat generated by the reaction and several tests were carried out to validate the reactor features. The results obtained demonstrate that the catalysts activity in the reaction is improved with the application of the novel reactor respect the conventional fixed- and fluidized-bed ones and neither catalyst sintering, nor pressure drop was appreciated during the catalytic tests. At the best reaction conditions, Tecnalia’s multichannel minireactor can handle 820 Nm3/h of CO2 per square meter of channel section showing the enormous potential of the new reactor concept.

Six lignin-based polyols (LBPs) have been prepared by cationic ring opening polymerization of an oxirane in the presence of an organosolv lignin in tetrahydrofuran (THF) as reaction media and co-monomer. The prepared LBPs have been characterized and tested for the first time as phase change materials (PCMs) for thermal energy storage (TES) at low temperature. It was found a strong influence of the LBPs composition on their performance to storage thermal energy. Thus, LBPs with higher THF wt% content and lower oxirane/THF mass ratio exhibit the highest latent heats. Furthermore, a clear inversely proportional trend between the oxirane/THF mass ratio and the melting temperatures of the prepared LBPs was noticed. Among the prepared LBPs, the highest obtained latent heat was 53.7 J/g demonstrating the potential application of lignin as feedstock for PCMs preparation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a biomass derived PCM based on lignin has been studied and considered for TES applications at low temperature. LBPs show energetic solid–liquid transitions that point out their promising potential as bio-PCMs. This work paves the way to introduce new bio-based PCMs from lignin in TES systems, for example, in a more sustainable construction sector.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to compare the genotoxic effects of arsenite in cultured human lymphocytes and lymphoblastoid cell lines from a group of normal human volunteers. The goal was to determine whether, as found with other genotoxins, subgroups might exist which showed relative high or low sensitivity to induction of sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) by this metal. Primary lymphoblast cultures were established by treatment with phytohemagglutinin (PHA-L). Lymphoblastoid cell lines were established by transformation with Epstein-Barr virus. Cultures were exposed for 40 h to sodium arsenite (AsIII) and SCEs assayed by 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine incorporation and staining by fluorescence plus Giemsa. SCEs were increased by arsenite in a dose-dependent manner over the concentration range of 10(-7)-10(-5) M. SCEs could not be scored above 10(-5) M because of cytotoxicity. Comparison of SCE frequency in primary lymphocyte cultures among individuals showed substantial variation in sensitivity to arsenite, with some showing no significant effect while others showed a 2-3-fold increase in SCE frequency. In one lymphoblastoid cell line especially sensitive to arsenite, arsenic acid (AsV) or dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) at concentrations up to 10(-5) M did not increase the SCE frequency suggesting that AsIII is the active form of arsenic. When pooled data from the primary lymphocytes was compared to that obtained with the lymphoblastoid cells, the slopes of the dose-response curves for ASIII-induced SCEs were similar. The sensitivity of the majority of the individual primary lymphocyte cultures to SCE induction by arsenite was correlated with the sensitivity of the lymphoblastoid cultures established from the same individual. However, in three individuals no correlation was found. Individual lymphoblastoid cell lines retained their As sensitivity after cryopreservation and subsequent revival. Whether the genotoxic response to As is genetically controlled or the result of phenotypic selection is being explored in these stable lymphoblastoid cell lines.  相似文献
