We present a structural study of two Nd3+/MgO codoped LiNbO3 waveguides fabricated by two different methods: ion-implantation and proton-exchange. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry in combination with channelling was used to study the influence of the waveguide fabrication method on the possible modification of the LiNbO3 crystal structure within the waveguiding layer. The results show that the ion-implanted waveguide mainly maintains the same properties as the virgin crystal, apart from a deterioration of a thin surface layer, whilst the proton-exchanged waveguide exhibits a quite different behaviour, although its surface is less damaged. 相似文献

The inclusion of quadrupolar and higher order terms into the effective field in second order transition in uniaxial ferroelectrics is shown to describe well the jump in specific heat at T⋍Tc for crystals of the TGS family. It is shown that the numerical values for the coefficient g≡(γ/β)(Nμ)2, corresponding to the quadrupolar interaction term, obtained (a) from specific heat data and (b) from spontaneous polarization data (both at T⋍Tc are in good agreement with each other for crystals of the TGS family. 相似文献

The mammalian exclusive Orai3 channel participates in the generation and/or modulation of two independent Ca2+ currents, the store-operated current, Icrac, involving functional interactions between the stromal interaction molecules (STIM), STIM1/STIM2, and Orai1/Orai2/Orai3, as well as the store-independent arachidonic acid (AA) (or leukotriene C4)-regulated current Iarc, which involves Orai1, Orai3 and STIM1. Overexpression of functional Orai3 has been described in different neoplastic cells and cancer tissue samples as compared to non-tumor cells or normal adjacent tissue. In these cells, Orai3 exhibits a cell-specific relevance in Ca2+ influx. In estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer cells and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) is strongly dependent on Orai3 expression while in colorectal cancer and pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells Orai3 predominantly modulates SOCE. On the other hand, in prostate cancer cells Orai3 expression has been associated with the formation of Orai1/Orai3 heteromeric channels regulated by AA and reduction in SOCE, thus leading to enhanced proliferation. Orai3 overexpression is associated with supporting several cancer hallmarks, including cell cycle progression, proliferation, migration, and apoptosis resistance. This review summarizes the current knowledge concerning the functional role of Orai3 in the pathogenesis of cancer. 相似文献

Triamterene-urea solid dispersions of varying weight fractions were elaborated by the melting carrier method and their dissolution profiles compared with the pure drug and physical mixtures. The dissolution rates of triamterene from solid dispersions were faster than the pure drug and physical mixtures.
Solubility studies revealed a linear increase in the solubility of the triamterene with the increase of urea concentration.
The intrinsic dissolution rates, determined by the rotating disc method, showed linear dissolution profiles in spite of that the scanning electron microscopy examination revealed that the surfaces do not maintain constant during the dissolution process.
Aging of the different preparations for one year at room temperature does not induced significant changes in their dissolution profiles. 相似文献

This paper introduces a new 3D-based surveillance solution for large infrastructures. Our proposal is based on an accurate 3D reconstruction using the rich information obtained from a network of intelligent video-processing nodes. In this manner, if the scenario to cover is modeled in 3D with high precision, it will be possible to locate the detected objects in the virtual representation. Moreover, as an improvement over previous 2D solutions, having the possibility of modifying the view point enables the application to choose the perspective that better suits the current state of the scenario. In this sense, the contextualization of the events detected in a 3D environment can offer a much better understanding of what is happening in the real world and where it is exactly happening. Details of the video processing nodes are given, as well as of the 3D reconstruction tasks performed afterwards. The possibilities of such a system are described and the performance obtained is analyzed. 相似文献

In certain diseases of the pancreas, pancreatic stellate cells form an important part of fibrosis and are critical for the development of cancer cells. A hypoxic condition develops within the tumor, to which pancreatic stellate cells adapt and are able to proliferate. The consequence is the growth of the tumor. Melatonin, the product of the pineal gland, is gaining attention as an agent with therapeutic potential against pancreatic cancers. Its actions on tumor cells lead, in general, to a reduction in cell viability and proliferation. However, its effects on pancreatic stellate cells subjected to hypoxia are less known. In this study, we evaluated the actions of pharmacological concentrations of melatonin (1 mM–1 µM) on pancreatic stellate cells subjected to hypoxia. The results show that melatonin induced a decrease in cell viability at the highest concentrations tested. Similarly, the incorporation of BrdU into DNA was diminished by melatonin. The expression of cyclins A and D also was decreased in the presence of melatonin. Upon treatment of cells with melatonin, increases in the expression of major markers of ER stress, namely BIP, phospho-eIF2α and ATF-4, were detected. Modulation of apoptosis was noticed as an increase in caspase-3 activation. In addition, changes in the phosphorylated state of p44/42, p38 and JNK MAPKs were detected in cells treated with melatonin. A slight decrease in the content of α-smooth muscle actin was detected in cells treated with melatonin. Finally, treatment of cells with melatonin decreased the expression of matrix metalloproteinases 2, 3, 9 and 13. Our observations suggest that melatonin, at pharmacological concentrations, diminishes the proliferation of pancreatic stellate cells subjected to hypoxia through modulation of cell cycle, apoptosis and the activation of crucial MAPKs. Cellular responses might involve certain ER stress regulator proteins. In view of the results, melatonin could be taken into consideration as a potential therapeutic agent for pancreatic fibrosis. 相似文献

Abstract We report the first demonstration of second harmonic generation (SHG) in ion implanted lithium niobate optical waveguides. For both ordinary and extraordinary index profiles a computer program was developed to simulate the positions of the modes within the optical well. With the help of this program the theoretical possibility of SHG using mode matching conditions within the guide was then studied as a function of the guide depth and temperature, and from these predictions, practical guides were constructed. Initially, SHG Cerenkov radiation was observed with leaky single implanted guides. Mode matched SHG from m = 0 to m = 2 was subsequently achieved by means of a multiple energy implant which was able to confine both fundamental and harmonic waves. Allowing for coupling and transmission losses, the corrected conversion efficiency is 0–018% W?1 which compares favourably to a theoretical prediction for this guide of 0–020% W?1. In this case a wide temperature tuning range was obtained. 相似文献
