High energy X-ray diffraction was employed to probe the complex constitutive behavior of a polycrystalline ferroelectric material in various sample orientations. Pb(Zn,Nb)O3-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZN-PZT) ceramics were subjected to a cyclic bipolar electric field while diffraction patterns were taken. Using transmission geometry and a two-dimensional detector, lattice strain and texture evolution (domain switching) were measured in multiple sample directions simultaneously. In addition, texture analysis suggests that non-180° domain switching is coupled with lattice strain evolution during uniaxial electrical loading. As a result of this material’s high strain anisotropy, the full-pattern Rietveld method was inadequate to analyze the diffraction data. Instead, a modified Rietveld method, which includes an elastic anisotropy term, yielded significant improvements in the data analysis results.  相似文献

Epoxy‐clay nanocomposites were synthesized to examine the effects of the content and type of different clays on the structure and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol‐A (epoxy) was reinforced by 0.5–11 wt % natural (Cloisite Na+) and organically modified (Cloisite 30B) types of montmorillonite. SEM results showed that as the clay content increased, larger agglomerates of clay were present. Nanocomposites with Cloisite 30B exhibited better dispersion and a lower degree of agglomeration than nanocomposites with Cloisite Na+. X‐ray results indicated that in nanocomposites with 3 wt % Cloisite 30B, d‐spacing expanded from 18.4 Å (the initial value of the pure clay) to 38.2 Å. The glass transition temperature increased from 73°C, in the unfilled epoxy resin, to 83.5°C in the nanocomposite with 9 wt % Cloisite 30B. The tensile strength exhibited a maximum at 1 wt % modified clay loading. Addition of 0.5 wt % organically modified clay improved the impact strength of the epoxy resin by 137%; in contrast, addition of 0.5 wt % unmodified clay improved the impact strength by 72%. The effects of fat content and emulsifier type on the rheological properties of cake batter have been investigated by using a parallel-plate rheometer. The apparent viscosity of cake batter with five different fat concentrations (0, 12.5, 25, 37.5, and 50%) and two types of emulsifier, namely Purawave and Lecigran, was studied as a function of the shear rate. In addition, the time dependency of different cake formulations was investigated. It was found that cake batter with different fat concentrations and emulsifier types exhibited shear thinning and time-independent behavior. Experimental data provided a good fit for the power law model. The increase in fat content and addition of emulsifier caused a decrease in the apparent viscosity. The flow behavior index was not found to be dependent on the composition of cake batter.  相似文献

Poly(ether ester) (PEE) copolymers were synthesized in a two‐stage process involving transesterification and polycondensation. The synthesized copolymer and the zinc oxide (ZnO) were used in composite preparation by melt compounding. The influence of ZnO type and concentration on the morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of the composites were studied. DSC and XRD analyses indicated that crystallinity of composites was slightly reduced with ZnO content. Homogeneous dispersion of fillers in the polymer matrix was observed through morphological analyses. While in general tensile strength and elongation at break values of the composites decreased with increasing ZnO content, elastic modulus values increased with the addition of ZnO. Moreover, ZnO particles were modified with poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) and a slight improvement in mechanical properties was observed, respectively over the composites containing unmodified particles. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. BACKGROUND: Volatile anesthetics exert profound effects on the heart, probably through their effect on Ca2+ movements during the cardiac cycle. Ca2+ movements across the sarcolemma are thought to involve mainly Ca2+ channels and the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger. We have therefore investigated the action of halothane, isoflurane, and enflurane on Na+/Ca2+ exchange and Ca2+ channel activity to assess the contribution of these pathways to the observed effect of the anesthetics on the myocardium. METHODS: Sarcolemmal ion fluxes were investigated using radioisotope uptake by isolated adult rat heart cells in suspension. Na+/Ca2+ exchange activity was measured from 45Ca2+ uptake by Na(+)-loaded cells. Ca2+ channel activity was measured from verapamil-sensitive trace 54Mn2+ uptake during electric stimulation. RESULTS: Halothane, isoflurane, and enflurane inhibited Na+/Ca2+ exchange completely, with similar potency when concentrations were expressed in millimolar units in aqueous medium but not when expressed as minimum alveolar concentration (MAC). The inhibition by enflurane was particularly strong, > 50%, at 2 MAC. In contrast, the three anesthetics inhibited Ca2+ channels with similar potency when concentrations were expressed as MAC but not when expressed in millimolar units in aqueous medium. Hill plots of pooled data with all three anesthetics showed a slope of -3.87 +/- 0.50 for inhibition of Na+/Ca2+ exchange and -1.73 +/- 0.19 for inhibition of Ca2+ channels. CONCLUSIONS: Halothane, isoflurane, and enflurane inhibit both Na+/Ca2+ exchange and Ca2+ channels at concentrations relevant to anesthesia, although they exhibit differences in potency and number of sites of action. At 1.5 MAC, halothane inhibits Ca2+ channels more than Na+/Ca2+ exchange, whereas enflurane inhibits Na+/Ca2+ exchange more than Ca2+ channels. Isoflurane inhibited both systems equally. The inhibition of Ca2+ influx by these agents is likely to contribute to their negative inotropic effect in the heart. The inhibition of Na+/Ca2+ exchange by enflurane may account for its observed action of delaying relaxation in species lacking sarcoplasmic reticulum.  相似文献

Two different types of surface modifiers, 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane and formamide, were applied to carbon black (CB) particles to lower electrical resistivity of polymer composites prepared by treated CB. Two different matrices, low‐density polyethylene and nylon 6, were chosen to compound with surface modified CB. Surface energy of CB was increased by adding amine or amide functional groups during surface treatment of CB. According to electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), chemical modification in surface chemistry of CB was obtained with the chemicals used for the treatment due to the nitrogen atoms in their structures, which may act as dopant atom. As a result of this, electrical resistivity of composites prepared by treated CB decreased. In addition, there was not any significant change in tensile strength and tensile modulus of the composites with the surface treatment. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2007  相似文献
