Parallel parsing is currently receiving attention but there is little discussion about the adaptation of sequential error handling techniques to these parallel algorithms. We describe a noncorrecting error handler implemented with a parallel LR substring parser. The parser used is a parallel version of Cormack's LR substring parser. The applicability of noncorrecting error handling for parallel parsing is discussed. The error information provided for a standard set of 118 erroneous Pascal programs is analysed. There is still a lot of controversy in literature concerning the question whether a biochemical system exists enabling micro-organisms to reduce phosphate to phosphine gas. The search for so-called 'de novo synthesised' phosphine is complicated by the fact that soils, slurries, sludges, etc., which are often used as inocula, usually contain matrix bound phosphine (MBP). Matrix bound phosphine is a general term used to indicate non-gaseous reduced phosphorus compounds that are transformed into phosphine gas upon reaction with bases or acids. A study was carried out to compare the different digestion methods, used to transform matrix bound phosphine into phosphine gas. It was demonstrated that caustic and acidic digestion methods should be used to measure the matrix bound phosphine of the inoculum prior to inoculation to avoid false positive results concerning de novo synthesis. This is especially true if anthropogenically influenced inocula possibly containing minute steel or aluminium particles are used. The comparative study on different digestion methods also revealed that the fraction of phosphorus in mild steel, converted to phosphine during acid corrosion depended on the temperature. Following these preliminary studies, anaerobic growth experiments were set up using different inocula and media to study the emission of phosphine gas. Phosphine was detected in the headspace gases and its quantity and timeframe of emission depended on the medium composition, suggesting microbially mediated formation of the gas. The amount of phosphine emitted during the growth experiments never exceeded the bound phosphine present in inocula, prior to inoculation. Hence, de novo synthesis of phosphine from phosphate could not be demonstrated. Yet, microbially mediated conversion to phosphine of hitherto unknown reduced phosphorus compounds in the inoculum was evidenced. 相似文献

This paper examines whether and how living in a poor neighbourhood results in “network poverty”. Through a detailed analysis
of the formation of personal networks of people living in a poor neighbourhood and those living in an affluent neighbourhood
in Rotterdam, I examine the role of the neighbourhood in the formation of personal networks. I address three issues. First,
whether resource-poor people who live in a poor neighbourhood form relationships with fellow-residents to compensate for their
otherwise small network. I find that they do not and that their small network is primarily caused by non-participation in
settings such as study, work, leisure and associations. Second, I distinguish locally maintained relationships that have originated
in other settings from locality-based relationships that originated in the neighbourhood. The study shows that high network
localness is more a matter of maintaining relationships in the neighbourhood than forming many new locality-based relationships
with fellow-residents. Third, I examine how the neighbourhood facilitates relationship formation and conclude that this happens
not in “the neighbourhood” but in neighbourhood settings, which attract a particular segment of a neighbourhood population.
I conclude that the problem of network poverty is not in the first place spatial but rather lies in lack of participation
in certain settings. Furthermore, social mixing policies can only be successful if they are accompanied by initiatives to
draw a mixed population to neighbourhood settings and facilitate routine encounters between resource-rich and resource-poor

A life cycle assessment (LCA) of one proposed method of hydrogen production – thermochemical water-splitting using the sulfur–iodine cycle couple with a very high-temperature nuclear reactor – is presented in this paper. Thermochemical water-splitting theoretically offers a higher overall efficiency than high-temperature electrolysis of water because heat from the nuclear reactor is provided directly to the hydrogen generation process, instead of using the intermediate step of generating electricity. The primary heat source for the S–I cycle is an advanced nuclear reactor operating at temperatures corresponding to those required by the sulfur–iodine process. This LCA examines the environmental impact of the combined advanced nuclear and hydrogen generation plants and focuses on quantifying the emissions of carbon dioxide per kilogram of hydrogen produced. The results are presented in terms of global warming potential (GWP). The GWP of the system is 2500 g carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2-eq) per kilogram of hydrogen produced. The GWP of this process is approximately one-sixth of that for hydrogen production by steam reforming of natural gas, and is comparable to producing hydrogen from wind- or hydro-electric conventional electrolysis. 相似文献

GC-MS analysis of the anal sac secretion from the hooded skunk, Mephitis macroura, showed the following seven major components comprised 99% of the volatiles in this secretion: (E)-2-butene-1-thiol, 3-methyl-1-butanethiol, S-(E)-2-butenyl thioacetate, S-3-methylbutenyl thioacetate, 2-phenylethanethiol, 2-methylquinoline, and 2-quinolinemethanethiol. Minor volatile components identified in this secretion are phenylmethanethiol, S-phenylmethyl thioacetate, S-2-phenylethyl thioacetate, bis[(E)-2-butenyl] disulfide, (E)-2-butenyl 3-methylbutyl disulfide, bis(3-methylbutyl) disulfide, and S-2-quinolinemethyl thioacetate. This secretion is similar to that of the striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis, differing only in that it contains four compounds not reported from the striped skunk: phenylmethanethiol, S-phenylmethyl thioacetate, 2-phenylethanethiol, and S-2-phenylethyl thioacetate. 相似文献

In this paper, we advocate an approach to combine formal specification components. Our work aims at building or reusing specification components, and compose them with a gluing language constituted of a minimal but sufficient set of operators. The glue allows to have at one's disposal a global formal specification with heterogeneous components as basic entities. The interests are manifold: modelling the different aspects of systems, allowing the use of many existing specification languages, formalizing the links between components in an easy and graphical way, making the reuse of components easier. Conducted 7 experiments with a total of 256 1-3 day old Vantress * Arbor Acre chicks to investigate the effects of interactions between the S and its sensory environment on both emergence of brightness preferences and modification by conditioning. In a simultaneous brightness discrimination, Ss were rewarded with heat for approaching either a bright or dim stimulus. Results indicate (a) brightness preference was so stable that it could not be eliminated by incubating, hatching, and rearing in the dark; (b) light experience significantly increased this preference; and (c) modification of this preference by heat reinforcement depended on age of S, prior rearing condition, sensory stimulation between testing sessions, and the length of interval between testing sessions. The use of a thin film of monolayer-protected gold nanoparticles (MPNs) as a stationary phase for gas chromatography (GC) is reported. Deposition of a MPN film was obtained in a 2-m, 530-microm-i.d. deactivated silica capillary using gravity to force the solution containing the MPN material through the capillary. By SEM analysis, the average film thickness was determined to be 60.7 nm. The retention behavior for the dodecanethiol MPN column was studied using four compound classes (alkanes, alcohols, aromatics, ketones), and retention orders were objectively compared to a commercially available column (AT-1, 100-nm film thickness). Separation of an eight-component mixture was performed using both isothermal and temperature-programming methods with the dodecanethiol MPN phase and compared to an isothermal separation with the AT-1 phase. The AT-1 phase separation had an efficiency, N, of 6200 (k' = 0.33) while the dodecanethiol MPN phase separation had an efficiency, N, of 5700 (k' = 0.21) for the same analyte, octane. The reduced plate height, h, for octane was found to be less than 1 at the optimum linear flow velocity, indicating the MPN column operated near the optimum possible performance level. Robustness of the MPN phase is also discussed with consistent performance observed over several months. Overall, MPNs appear promising as a stationary-phase material for GC and as an experimental platform to study their thermodynamic and mass-transfer properties. 相似文献
