This paper presents a facile and economic development of dye‐sensitized solar cells using a nonprecious counter electrode made from ball‐milled tellurium‐doped graphene (Te‐Gr) and a natural sensitizer extracted from Calotropis gigantea leaves. The prepared materials were characterized using various techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), impedance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy with built‐in energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (SEM with EDS). The electrochemical activity of the produced counter electrodes and the impedance of the fabricated cells were examined and discussed to devise plans for future enhancement of cell performance. A clear pattern of improvement was found when using cost‐effective Te‐Gr relative to the costly platinum counter electrodes, especially when compared with cells employing another natural sensitizer. The results show approximately 51% enhancement over chlorophyll‐based cells made from spinach, where the added advantage in our approach is the utilization of an abundant plant extract with little nutritional appeal.  相似文献

Poly-Si thin-film transistors (TFTs) with channel dimensions (width W, and length L) comparable to or smaller than the grain size of the poly-Si film were fabricated and characterized. The grain size of the poly-Si film was enhanced by Si ion implantation followed by a low-temperature anneal and was typically 1 to 3 μm in diameter. A remarkable improvement was observed in the device characteristics as the channel dimensions decreased to W=L =2 μm. On the other hand, TFTs with submicrometer channel dimensions were characterized by an extremely abrupt switching in their ID versus VGS characteristics. In vitro studies of several naturally occurring proteins have characterized VH family-specific B lymphocyte binding and stimulatory properties that appear analogous to those of T cell superantigens. To examine the in vivo consequences of exposure to a putative B cell superantigen, we treated neonatal BALB/c mice with a form of staphylococcal protein A (MS) devoid of Fcgamma binding activity, which retains the clan VHIII Fab binding specificity. In naive adults, about 5% of peripheral B cells and >13% of splenic IgM-secreting cells display MS binding activity, in association with high IgM and low IgG circulating anti-MS Ab titers. Neonatal exposure to MS elicited two distinct temporal phases of immune responsiveness. The early phase, representing the first approximately 5 wk of life, was associated with MS-specific B cell and T cell tolerance. Microfluorometric assays revealed that exposure caused a dramatic MS-specific B cell clonal loss in bone marrow and spleen, but levels normalized by about 3 wk of life. The late phase (>6 wk of age) was associated with spontaneous priming for MS-specific T cell responses and production of MS-specific IgG1 Abs despite long term persistently depressed in vivo and in vitro MS-specific IgM responses. In vivo challenge during the late phase induced high frequencies of MS-specific IgG-secreting cells, indicating recruitment of highly focused Ab responses that were predominantly encoded by rearrangements of the S107 family, a member of the VHIII clan. These studies document the immunodominance of the VH-restricted Fab binding site on staphylococcal protein A and demonstrate the diverse effects of a B cell superantigen on the emerging peripheral B cell compartment.  相似文献

PGI2 generation by the vessel wall is an agonist for cyclic-AMP-dependent cholesteryl ester hydrolysis. The process of enhanced PGI2 synthesis is stimulated, in part, by G-protein-coupled receptor ligands. Cellular cholesterol enrichment has been hypothesized to alter G-protein-mediated PGI2 synthesis. In the studies reported herein, cells generated PGI2 in response to AlF4-, GTPgammaS, and ATP in a dose-dependent manner. G-protein agonists stimulated eicosanoid production principally by activating phospholipase A2, but not phospholipase C. This is in contrast to PDGF, which stimulated phospholipase A2 and PLCgamma activities. Galphai subunits mediate G-protein agonist-induced PGI2 synthesis, since ATP- and PDGF-induced PGI2 synthesis was inhibited by pertussis toxin. Although cholesterol enrichment reduced arachidonic acid- and PDGF-induced PGI2 synthesis, cholesterol enrichment enhanced PGI2 release in response to AlF4-, GTPgammaS, and ATP. The enhancement of PGI2 release in cholesterol-enriched cells was augmented by mevalonate, which inhibits the ability of cholesterol enrichment to reduce membrane-associated G-protein subunits. Since cholesterol enrichment inhibited PDGF and AlF4--induced MAP kinase activity [Pomerantz, K., Lander, H. M., Summers, B., Robishaw, J. D., Balcueva, E. A., & Hajjar, D. P. (1997) Biochemistry 36, 9523-9531] (the major mechanism by which phospholipase A2 is activated), these results suggest that cholesterol enrichment induces other alternative signaling pathways leading to phospholipase A2 activation. A PKC-dependent pathway is described herein that is involved in enhanced eicosanoid production in cholesterol-enriched cells. This conclusion is supported by two observations: (1) G-protein-linked PGI2 production is inhibited by calphostin, and (2) cholesterol enrichment augments the specific translocation of the delta-isoform of PKC from the cytosol to the plasma membrane following treatment of cells with phorbol ester. These data support the concept that, in cells possessing normal levels of cholesterol, MAP-kinase-dependent pathways mediate eicosanoid synthesis in response to G-protein activation; however, under conditions of high cellular cholesterol levels, augmented G-protein-linked eicosanoid production results from enhanced PKCdelta activity.  相似文献

Thin-film transistors (TFTs) fabricated in polysilicon films deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) were characterized. The transistors were fabricated using a low temperature process (i.e., <- 700° C). The characteristics of the devices were found to improve as the deposition temperature of the polysilicon film increased. The best characteristics (μ FE of 15 cm2/V s andV TH of 2.2V) were measured in the devices fabricated in the film deposited at 700° C. The devices fabricated in the PECVD polysilicon films were compared to those fabricated in polysilicon films deposited by thermal CVD in the same reactor in order to decouple the effect of the plasma. A coplanar electrode structure TFT with adequate characteristics (μ FE of 8 cm2/V s) was also demonstrated in the PECVD polysilicon films.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The goal of this randomized study was to determine whether combined general and epidural anaesthesia with postoperative epidural analgesia, compared with general anaesthesia and postoperative intravenous analgesia, reduced the incidence of perioperative myocardial ischaemia in patients undergoing elective aortic surgery. METHOD: Patients were randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group (EPI, n = 48) received combined general and epidural anaesthesia and postoperative epidural analgesia for 48 hrs. The other group (GA, n = 51) received general anaesthesia followed by postoperative intravenous analgesia. Anaesthetic goals were to maintain haemodynamic stability (+/- 20% of preoperative values), and a stroke volume > 1 ml.kg-1. A Holter monitor was attached to each patient the day before surgery. Leads 11, V2, and V5 were monitored. Myocardial ischaemia was defined as ST segment depression > 1 mm measured at 80 millisec beyond the J point or an elevation of 2 mm 60 millisec beyond the J point which lasted > 60 sec. An event that lasted > 60 sec but returned to the baseline for > 60 sec and then recurred, was counted as two separate events. The Holter tapes were reviewed by a cardiologist blind to the patient's group. RESULTS: There were no demographic differences between the two groups. Myocardial ischaemia was common; it occurred in 55% of patients. In hospital, preoperative ischaemia was uncommon (GA = 3, EPI = 8). Intraoperative ischaemia was common (GA = 18, EPI = 25). Mesenteric traction produced the largest number of ischaemic (GA = 11, EPI = 11) events. Postoperative ischaemia was most common on the day of surgery. Termination of epidural analgesia produced a burst of ischaemia (60 events in 9 patients). CONCLUSION: Combined general and epidural anaesthesia and postoperative epidural analgesia do not reduce the incidence of myocardial ischaemia or morbidity compared with general anaesthesia and postoperative intravenous analgesia.  相似文献

Kinases mediating phosphorylation and activation of cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) in intact cells remain to be fully characterized. Platelet-activating factor stimulation of human neutrophils increases cPLA2 phosphorylation. This increase is inhibited by PD 98059, a mitogen-activated protein (MAP)/extracellular signal-regulating kinase (erk) 1 inhibitor, but not by SB 203580, a p38 MAP kinase inhibitor, indicating that this action is mediated through activation of the p42 MAP kinase (erk2). However, platelet-activating factor-induced arachidonic acid release is inhibited by both PD 98059 and SB 203580. Stimulation by TNF-alpha increases cPLA2 phosphorylation, which is inhibited by SB 203580, but not PD 98059, suggesting a role for p38 MAP kinase. LPS increases cPLA2 phosphorylation and arachidonic acid release. However, neither of these actions is inhibited by either PD 98059 or SB 203580. PMA increases cPLA2 phosphorylation. This action is inhibited by PD 98059 but not SB 203580. Finally, FMLP increases cPLA2 phosphorylation and arachidonic acid release. Interestingly, while the FMLP-induced phosphorylation of cPLA2 is not affected by the inhibitors of the p38 MAP kinase or erk cascades, both inhibitors significantly decrease arachidonic acid release stimulated by FMLP. SB 203580 or PD 98059 has no inhibitory effects on the activity of coenzyme A-independent transacylase.  相似文献
