The bispectrum and third-order moment can be viewed as equivalent tools for testing for the presence of nonlinearity in stationary time series. This is because the bispectrum is the Fourier transform of the third-order moment. An advantage of the bispectrum is that its estimator comprises terms that are asymptotically independent at distinct bifrequencies under the hypothesis of linearity. An advantage of the third-order moment is that its values in any subset of joint lags can be used in the test, whereas when using the bispectrum the entire (or truncated) third-order moment is required to construct the Fourier transform. We propose a test for nonlinearity based upon the estimated third-order moment. We use the phase scrambling bootstrap method to give a nonparametric estimate of the variance of our test statistic under the hypothesis. Using a simulation study, we demonstrate that the test obtains its target significance level, with large power, when compared to an existing standard parametric test that uses the bispectrum. Further we show how the proposed test can be used to identify the source of nonlinearity due to interactions at specific frequencies. The efficiency of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was compared with that of culture for detection of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis in 726 clinical specimens comprising 189 gynecological samples, 362 urological samples, and 175 samples from newborn infants. The sensitivity of PCR versus culture was 95% for both organisms, while the sensitivity of culture versus PCR was 91% for Ureaplasma urealyticum and 84% for Mycoplasma hominis. Furthermore, PCR tests were faster than culture tests, allowing the time to diagnosis to be reduced from two to five days to 24 h. 相似文献

A novel and systematic method is presented for the complete determination of dyadic spectral Green's functions directly from Maxwell's equations. With the use of generalized scalarizations developed in this paper, four general and concise expressions for the spectral Green's functions for one-dimensionally inhomogeneous multilayer structures, excited by three-dimensional electric and magnetic current sources, are given in terms of modal amplitudes together with appropriate explicit singular terms at the source region. It is shown that Maxwell's equations in spectral-domain can be reduced, by using dyadic spectral eigenfunctions, to two sets of z-dependent inhomogeneous transmission-line equations for the modal amplitudes. One set of the transmission-line equations are due to the transverse current sources and the other set due to the vertical current sources. Utilizing these equations, network schematizations of the excitation, transmission and reflection processes of three-dimensional electromagnetic waves in one-dimensionally inhomogeneous multilayer structures are achieved in a full-wave manner. The determination of the spectral Green's functions becomes so simple that it is accomplished by the investigation of voltages and currents on the derived equivalent circuits. BACKGROUND: Alveolar macrophages from patients with sarcoidosis were analyzed for their ability to secrete tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-1-beta (IL-1-beta), and interleukin-6 (IL-6). RESULTS: Constitutive release of all three monokines in these patients was concomitantly increased in the active state of disease in comparison with inactive sarcoidosis or healthy control subjects. Alveolar macrophages from patients with inactive sarcoidosis compared with cells from healthy subjects showed increased spontaneous secretion of TNF-alpha and IL-6 only, whereas the constitutive release of IL-1-beta was similar as in healthy volunteers. In vitro stimulation of alveolar macrophages from healthy control subjects with lipopolysaccharide or pokeweed mitogen led to a time- and dose-dependent enhanced secretion of TNF-alpha, IL-1-beta, and IL-6. In a similar manner, with corresponding cells from patients with sarcoidosis the secretion of all three cytokines could be further increased by stimulation with lipopolysaccharide or pokeweed mitogen. CONCLUSIONS: The data presented indicate that an increased release of TNF-alpha, IL-1-beta, and IL-6 correlates to disease activity and may play a critical part in the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis. 相似文献

Sol-gel-derived mullite ceramics were processed by pressureless sintering at 1600°, 1650°, and 1700°C for 4 h. Microstructural and microchemical characterization of the mullite materials was performed using transmission electron microscopy, in conjunction with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS). Apart from mullite grain diameter and triplepocket size, no major microstructural changes were observed with increasing sintering temperature. Residual glass was present at triple pockets and along two-grain junctions. Not all grain boundaries revealed the presence of a continuous amorphous intergranular film. Clean interfaces were observed only at boundaries with one grain parallel to the [001] orientation (low-energy configuration). Quantitative EELS analysis of mullite grains and glass pockets revealed only small changes in composition with increasing sintering temperature; i.e., the alumina:silica ratio slightly increased for mullite and glass. The analysis implied that mullite with this relatively high aluminum content would not be stable adjacent to residual glass. However, a stable glass-mullite system has been proposed, because impurity cations were detected within glass pockets, which suggested a slight shift of the subsolidus line (glass-mullite/ mullite) to a higher amount of alumina. Energy-loss nearedge structure studies of the Si- L 2,3 edge revealed a similar near-edge structure for the mullite, residual glass, and quartz. Vegetable oils rich in erucic acid have desirable properties for a variety of applications. At present, only a fraction of
the potential that exists for commercial exploitation of high erucic oils in the United States is fulfilled with 10 million
pounds of rapeseed oil imported annually. Though rape is not a crop in the United States, another member of the mustard family,
crambe, has been recommended by the USDA as a practical crop for domestic cultivation. Compared to rapessed oil, crambe oil
is more suitable for industrial use because it consistently contains a higher percentage of erucic acid. High erucic oils,
as examplified by crambe, can be employed as lubricants in continuous steel casting, in formulated lubricants and in the manufacture
of rubber additives. Both the hydrogenated oil and derived wax esters have properties comparable to commercial waxes. Useful
nitrogen derivatives can be prepared from either the erucic acid or mixed acids from the oil; behenyl amine is used in a corrosion
inhibitor, disubstituted amides are effective plasticizers and erucamide is an excellent slip and antiblocking agent for plastic
films. Oxidative ozonolysis of erucic acid produces the dibasic acid, brassylic, and the monoacid, pelargonic. Mixed diacids,
mainly brassylic and azelaic, can be obtained by ozonolysis of fatty acids from the oil. Alkyl diesters of brassylic, or of
the mixed diacids, are excellent low temperature plasticizers. Two new nylons (13 and 1313), which are derived from C-13 difunctional
products of erucic acid ozonolysis, contain repeating units that have longer uninterrupted polymethylene chains than other
nylons. Moderate melting points and exceptionally low water absorption are a consequence of this structure. The low-melting
characteristic is an advantage in adhesive uses and facilitates fluidized-bed coating, molding and extrusion; low moisture
affinity contributes to excellent electrical properties and dimensional stability.

GC analysis was performed to determine regiospecific distribution and FA composition in seed oils of the Aceraceae species,
Acer saccharum and A. saccharinum. The oil content in the seeds was low at 5.0% in A. saccharum and 5.8% in A. saccharinum, and the main FA were linoleic (30.8 and 29.4%), oleic (21.3 and 27.6%), palmitic (10.1 and 10.5%), and cis-vaccenic (9.4 and 7.9%) acids, respectively. In addition, both oils contained long-chain monoenes of the n−9 and n−7 groups,
including 11-eicosenoic, 13-docosenoic, 15-tetracosenoic, 13-eicosenoic, and 15-docosenoic acids, whereas γ-linolenic acid
accounted for 0.8% of total FA in A. saccharum, and 0.5% in A. saccharinum. Regiospecific analysis, performed using the methodology of dibutyroyl derivatives of MAG, indicated that linoleic, oleic,
and linolenic acids were mainly esterified at the internal position of TAG in both seed oils, whereas long-chain monoenes
of the n−7 group were almost exclusively esterified on the external positions. 相似文献
