The effects of vents were studied by simulating three different configurations: a centrally located vent—that is, a vent directly above the fire source; an eccentrically located vent; and no vent. The results were compared with recent large-scale experiments conducted at the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute (SP) and with results from the computer program LAVENT. Some calculated sprinkler temperatures with three different RTI values are also presented.The present JASMINE simulations agree reasonably well with measured ceiling temperatures and velocities in large-scale tests. In general, the calculated ceiling jet temperatures are slightly overestimated and the velocities slightly underestimated. Also, the layer thicknesses calculated by JASMINE are somewhat thinner than those measured. The ceiling jet theory and present LAVENT results predict very thin layer thicknesses. However, these theories are only valid when wall effects are eliminated. From the present study it can be concluded that CFD models are generally more accurate when used to predict confined and unconfined flows. 相似文献

A laboratory test facility for solar radiation detectors has been built and is in operation at the Aerological Station of the Swiss Meteorological Institute (SAP/SMI). This installation is conceived as a universal test bed for solar radiation exposed meteorological instruments, and consists of a commercially available solar simulator, a laser alignment system, a translation mechanism with instrument mounts, and an adjustable projection mirror. The solar simulator produces a well characterized radiation beam which can be filtered to match the terrestrial or outer space solar spectrum with an irradiance of up to one solar constant (1367 Wm−2). The instrument mounts and a HeNe laser beam provide a precise and easy alignment of the reference and the test instruments in the radiation beam, allowing for incident angles in the range of 15°–75°. The measurement is based on a comparison of the response of an active cavity absolute radiometer PMO6 with the signal of the test instrument.Detailed investigations of the Haenni Solar 111B type heliometer have revealed important irregularities in the sunshine threshold irradiance angular distribution. Measurements performed with and without the protection glass cover prove the exceedingly high threshold values at large declination angles to be a consequence of enhanced reflections due to the incident angle and inhomogeneities in the glass cover.Very satisfactory results have also been obtained on characterization measurements of pyranometers showing the mean values of the responsivity to be within 0.8% of the calibration values measured at the world radiation center (WRC) at Davos. 相似文献

Similarities for Extraversion (E) and Neuroticism (N) scale scores from the Eysenck Personality Inventory were evaluated in 7,144 adult twin pairs, drawn from the population-based Finnish Twin Cohort, as a function of the co-twins' genetic resemblance, gender, age, and the frequency of their social interaction with each other. To separate effects of shared genes from those of shared experience, we performed hierarchical multiple regressions of double-entry data matrices. Results establish the predictive significance of both genetic and experiential influences: Genetic effects remained significant when tested after the effects of social contact were first removed; conversely, for N scores, the effects of social contact remained significant when assessed after genetic influences were first removed. These findings establish genetic variance in major dimensions of adult personality but assign a significant role to common experience as well. The first finding constructively replicates reports by others; the second challenges the widespread assumption that shared experiences have a negligible impact on sibling similarity in adult personality. Apple (Malus domestica) is the most widely cultivated fruit crop in Europe and frequently causes allergic reactions with a variable degree of severity. So far, four apple allergens Mal d 1, Mal d 2, Mal d 3 and Mal d 4 have been identified. Mal d 1, a Bet v 1 related allergen, and Mal d 4, apple profilin, are sensitive to proteolytic degradation, whereas Mal d 2, a thaumatin-like protein and Mal d 3, a nonspecific lipid transfer protein, are rather stable to proteolytic processes. Mal d 1 and Mal d 4 were purified after expression in Escherichia coli expression system, while Mal d 2 and Mal d 3 were purified from apple fruit tissue. All purified proteins were subjected to detailed physicochemical characterisation to confirm their structural integrity and maintained IgE binding capacity. Detailed investigations of carbohydrate moieties of Mal d 2 demonstrated their involvement in the overall IgE binding capacity of this allergen. Lipolysis is the biochemical pathway responsible for the catabolism of cellular triacylglycerol (TG). Lipolytic TG breakdown is a central metabolic process leading to the generation of free fatty acids (FA) and glycerol, thereby regulating lipid, as well as energy homeostasis. The precise tuning of lipolysis is imperative to prevent lipotoxicity, obesity, diabetes and other related metabolic disorders. Here, we present our finding that miR-124a attenuates RNA and protein expression of the major TG hydrolase, adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL/PNPLA2) and its co-activator comparative gene identification 58 (CGI-58/ABHD5). Ectopic expression of miR-124a in adipocytes leads to reduced lipolysis and increased cellular TG accumulation. This phenotype, however, can be rescued by overexpression of truncated Atgl lacking its 3''UTR, which harbors the identified miR-124a target site. In addition, we observe a strong negative correlation between miR-124a and Atgl expression in various murine tissues. Moreover, miR-124a regulates the expression of Atgl and Cgi-58 in murine white adipose tissue during fasting as well as the expression of Atgl in murine liver, during fasting and re-feeding. Together, these results point to an instrumental role of miR-124a in the regulation of TG catabolism. Therefore, we suggest that miR-124a may be involved in the regulation of several cellular and organismal metabolic parameters, including lipid storage and plasma FA concentration. 相似文献

Long-term well efficiency is affected by increased approach velocity and turbulence due to reduced screen slot size and porosity in the gravel pack. Using preventive maintenance for well rehabilitation is an essential guard against the development of non-soluble incrustations of Fe- and Mn-(hydr)oxides. Anorganic acids destroy the microorganisms participated in well clogging and control mineral recrystallization. Minerals such as Fe-(hydr)oxides, Siderite or Calcite reduce the effective storage of the gravel pack and result in an inefficient well. Organic acids used in combination with ligands dissolve consolidated compounds by creating a new source of nutrients for germination. Surveillance of well efficiency and changes of drawdown can help to reduce the effort of chemicals for well rehabilitation. Using surging by back wash procedures or high-velocity, horizontal jetting techniques at an early stage of biochemical development aid to keep well efficiency at a high level. 相似文献
