Biofuel cells (BFCs) that produce electrical energy from organic resources through enzymatic reactions have been attracting significant attention. Owing to the high electrical conductivity of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), their modification on the electrode surface of a BFC is expected to increase the current, and their high specific surface area may be useful in increasing the power output. Previously, we constructed a biocathode by immobilizing multicopper oxidase from Pyrobaculum aerophilum (McoP) with a carbon nanotube binding peptide (CBP) sequence on the CNTs. This resulted in higher current densities than when using enzymes without CBP sequences. However, owing to the randomly stacked CNTs on the surface of the electrodes, their conductive properties were impaired and performance as biocathodes was poor. Herein, we constructed a biocathode in which single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) were oriented one-dimensionally and McoP is immobilized on the surface of an SWNCT via CBP. The current density was successfully increased by two-fold by orienting the CNTs and orienting and immobilizing McoP on their surfaces. This technology provides insights into the development of biodevices with controlled orientation of both the SWCNTs and enzymes immobilized on their surfaces.  相似文献

Yelp, a social media site, undeniably has an influence on consumers' food choice in spite of its ability to reflect consumers' real voice being criticized. Since unhealthy food choices contribute to health problems, such as obesity and malnourishment, we attempted to examine these problems by better understanding consumers through health-related cues to action—a construct from the Health Belief Model (HBM)— on Yelp Honolulu's restaurant reviews. Our research revealed 13 main categories: Ingredient, Type of food, Taste, Lifestyle, Cooking, Option, Price, Portion, Well-being, Nutrition, Hygiene, Emotional attachment and indulgence, and Feeling. We argue that these categories may ultimately lead consumers to make healthier food choices. In search of the most appealing way to communicate with the target group, underlying concepts that derived from these categories can be tested. Marketers in food industry (or public health policy-makers) can craft their strategies for healthy food brands/products (or healthy eating scheme) based on the concept test research. Moreover, Yelp can apply these insights in the development of their algorithm and filter system in order to help consumers find healthy food if they wish to do so. Restaurants can also improve their strategy, menu, and communication execution to meet the growing demands of health conscious consumers.  相似文献

This article proposes a function for color information detection using genetic programming (GP). In image-processing, object detection is one of the important processes. In cases where the object has a complex color domain, detection becomes more difficult. We generated a detection function for a complex color domain by using GP. The detection function deals with one pixel of an input image, and it obtains an output image by processing for all pixels. We aimed at a reduction in the time taken by a human to consider an image-processing system design. We applied the generation of GP to detect a target color region in actual images. The results show that the detection function has sufficient ability for these detections.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel control method for a matrix converter is proposed. The proposed method is a PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation) control method based on a virtual AC/DC/AC conversion method. Output voltage amplitude is controlled by controlling a virtual DC link voltage with a virtual rectifier. Output frequency is controlled by a virtual inverter. First, the proposed method is explained. Next, the validity of the proposed method is confirmed through simulation and experiment using a 750‐W prototype matrix converter. Moreover, various characteristics of the proposed method and conventional virtual AC/DC/AC method are compared through experiment. As a result of the experiment, it has been understood that total harmonic distortion of output current and common‐mode voltage can be reduced compared with the case of using a conventional virtual AC/DC/AC conversion method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diacylglycerol pyrophosphate (DGPP) is involved in a putative novel lipid signaling pathway. DGPP phosphatase (DGPP phosphohydrolase) is a membrane-associated 34-kDa enzyme from Saccharomyces cerevisiae which catalyzes the dephosphorylation of DGPP to yield phosphatidate (PA) and then catalyzes the dephosphorylation of PA to yield diacylglycerol. Amino acid sequence information derived from DGPP phosphatase was used to identify and isolate the DPP1 (diacylglycerol pyrophosphate phosphatase) gene encoding the enzyme. Multicopy plasmids containing the DPP1 gene directed a 10-fold overexpression of DGPP phosphatase activity in S. cerevisiae. The heterologous expression of the S. cerevisiae DPP1 gene in Sf-9 insect cells resulted in a 500-fold overexpression of DGPP phosphatase activity over that expressed in wild-type S. cerevisiae. DGPP phosphatase possesses a Mg2+-independent PA phosphatase activity, and its expression correlated with the overexpression of DGPP phosphatase activity in S. cerevisiae and in insect cells. DGPP phosphatase was predicted to be an integral membrane protein with six transmembrane-spanning domains. The enzyme contains a novel phosphatase sequence motif found in a superfamily of phosphatases. A dpp1Delta mutant was constructed by deletion of the chromosomal copy of the DPP1 gene. The dpp1Delta mutant was viable and did not exhibit any obvious growth defects. The mutant was devoid of DGPP phosphatase activity and accumulated (4-fold) DGPP. Analysis of the mutant showed that the DPP1 gene was not responsible for all of the Mg2+-independent PA phosphatase activity in S. cerevisiae.  相似文献

Activation in numerous regions of the brain is likely to be involved in the complex neural network function of pain perception. To detect the cortical representation during nonpainful and painful stimuli, which were presented using electrical finger stimulation in six normal right-handed male volunteers, we performed echo-planar functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Using a 1.5-T MR system that scanned the supratentorial region of the brain, we obtained multislice BOLD-based functional MR images with single-shot gradient-echo echo-planar imaging (EPI). The data show that dispersed brain regions are activated during painful stimulation, and especially demonstrate the significance of the SII-insular region in pain perception.  相似文献

This paper presents a finite strip analysis of curved composite girders with incomplete interaction. In the present analysis curved composite girder bridges are modelled by curved strip elements for the concrete slab and steel girder and spring elements for the shear connectors. The shear connectors are assumed as a two-dimensional spring element along the nodal line. The proposed method is applied to the analysis of curved box girders, curved plates and curved composite girder bridges with complete and incomplete interaction. Some analytical results obtained by this method are compared with the test results and theoretical values obtained by other methods, and they are in good agreement. Slip behavior of curved composite box girders is also discussed based on the results by the proposed method.  相似文献

A technique of correcting scaled strain rate sensitive structures subject to dynamic loads is described and applied to a shell under axial impact. The prototype and models responses were simulated using finite element method. Final deformed shape, collapse mode, displacement at the top of the shell and maximum force of scaled models are compared to the respective prototype. It is shown that the models response are quite different from the prototype if no correction is performed. By correcting the initial impact velocity, the models scale quite well and it is even possible to obtain the transition phenomenon between global and progressive buckling of shells subject to the axial impact of a mass.  相似文献

This study investigated the role of the basal forebrain cholinergic system (BFCS) in rats' performance of a visuospatial attention task. Muscimol was infused bilaterally and unilaterally into the BFCS to inhibit cholinergic projections to the cortex. Muscimol slowed responding without significantly affecting side-bias. Bilateral infusions increased accuracy for all targets, whereas unilateral infusions reduced accuracy for targets contralateral to the infusion and increased accuracy for targets ipsilateral to the infusion. After a low unilateral dose of muscimol, invalid cues impaired detection of contralateral targets and spared detection of ipsilateral targets. A high unilateral dose of muscimol impaired detection of contralateral targets independently of cueing. These results suggest that interhemispheric imbalance in cortical activity by pharmacological manipulation of the BFCS can impair the detection of lateralized visual stimuli. An effective strategy is highly desirable for preventing acute kidney injury (AKI) to chronic kidney disease (CKD) transition. Thioredoxin-1 (Trx), a redox-active protein that has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, would be a candidate for this but its short half-life limits its clinical application. In this study, we examined the renoprotective effect of long-acting Trx that is comprised of human albumin and Trx (HSA-Trx) against AKI to CKD transition. AKI to CKD mice were created by renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR). From day 1 to day 14 after renal IR, the recovery of renal function was accelerated by HSA-Trx administration. On day 14, HSA-Trx reduced renal fibrosis compared with PBS treatment. At the early phase of fibrogenesis (day 7), HSA-Trx treatment suppressed renal oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory cytokine production and macrophage infiltration, thus ameliorating tubular injury and fibrosis. In addition, HSA-Trx treatment inhibited G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in renal tubular cells. While renal Trx protein levels were decreased after renal IR, the levels were recovered by HSA-Trx treatment. Together, HSA-Trx has potential for use in the treatment of AKI to CKD transition via its effects of modulating oxidative stress and inflammation.  相似文献
