This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical characteristics and sensory attributes of beef burgers with the addition of pea fibre as a partial substitute of meat or fat. Three formulations were prepared: control (CON) – similar to the commercial formulation; fibre/less meat (FLM)—5% meat reduction and addition of 1% pea fibre; fibre/less fat (FLF)—7% fat reduction and addition of 1% pea fibre. Non-significant differences were obtained for pH, colour parameters (L* and b*), texture profile, cooking loss and size reduction among formulations. Moreover, sensory analysis with consumers of beef burgers did not indicate differences among the formulations for all the analysed attributes. Therefore, pea fibre is a promising partial replacer for meat and fat in beef burgers due to the preservation of technological parameters and sensory acceptance.  相似文献

The consumption of illicit drugs causes indisputable societal and economic damage. Therefore it is necessary to know their usage levels and trends for undertaking targeted actions to reduce their use. Recently, a new approach (namely sewage epidemiology) was developed for the estimation of illicit drug use based on measurements of urinary excreted illicit drugs and their metabolites in untreated wastewater. This review aims at critically evaluating the published literature and identifying research gaps of sewage epidemiology. Firstly, the existing analytical procedures for the determination of the four most used classes of illicit drugs worldwide (cannabis, cocaine, opiates and amphetamine-like stimulants) and their metabolites in wastewater are summarized and discussed. The focus lies on the sample preparation and on the analysis with chromatographic techniques coupled to mass spectrometry. Secondly, back-calculations used to transform measured concentrations in wastewater (in ng/L) into an amount of used illicit drug (in g/day per 1000 inhabitants or doses/day per 1000 inhabitants) are discussed in detail for the four groups of illicit drugs. Sewage epidemiology data from Spain, Belgium, UK, Italy, Switzerland and USA are summarized and compared with data from international organisations, such as the European Monitoring Centre for Drug and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The results derived from wastewater analysis show in general good agreement with existing prevalence data (percentage of a population that uses illicit drugs at a given time) and demonstrate the potential of sewage epidemiology. However, this review confirms that future work should focus on further optimisation and standardisation of various important parameters (e.g. sample collection and back-calculations). In the future, sewage epidemiology could be used in routine drug monitoring campaigns as a valuable tool in addition to the classical socio-epidemiological studies for the determination of local, national and international illicit drug use.  相似文献

Through the Renewable Energies Plan 2000–2010, Spain has fixed the objective of covering 12% of the primary energy demand from renewable sources. The achievement of this objective implies an annual increase of 22.4% of the energy produced from renewable sources. In this context, the objective of this study is to determine if the electricity from biomass produced in Spain would be environmentally competitive with electricity from natural gas or from the Spanish electricity mix. For that, the environmental impacts associated to the whole life cycle of two energetic crops in Spain, Poplar and Ethiopian mustard, used for power generation were evaluated. The overall assessment includes the cultivation and collection of biomass, its transport and the processes of its energetic transformation. We calculated different scenarios of electricity production from biomass in different capacity power plants (10, 25 or 50 MW), different transport scenarios and different productivities for biomass production. Our results show that, given the assumptions of this study, Ethiopian mustard is more impacting than Poplar when used for electricity production. Also, the transportation of biomass from the field to the power plant is an important stage that has to be carefully planned in order to get the maximum amount of electricity with a minimum environmental impact. Compared to electricity from natural gas or the Spanish electricity mix, the electricity obtained from biomass is more impacting in three from six impact categories we present here.  相似文献

Recent investigations on the tensile properties of natural cellulose-based fibers revealed an increasing potential as engineering materials. This is particularly the case of very thin fibers of some species such as sisal, ramie, and curaua. However, several other commonly used fibers such as flax, jute, hemp, coir, cotton, and bamboo as well as less known bagasse, piassava, sponge gourde, and buriti display tensile properties that could qualify them as engineering materials. An overview of the strength limits attained by these fibers is presented. Based on a tensile strength vs density chart, it is shown that natural fibers stand out as a relevant class of engineering materials.  相似文献

Tropical ecosystems are particularly rich in edible plant species with different bioactive substances. Among the plants with promising benefits for health are species from the genus Dioscorea (Dioscoreaceae), especially those named yam. Recent studies have shown the beneficial effects of different species of Dioscorea, and its main constituent, diosgenine, in the treatment of food allergy. In this study we evaluated the potential of D. trifida, the only yam native from South America, in the treatment of ovalbumin (OVA) induced food allergy in Balb/c mice. HPLC/DAD analysis showed the presence of three very distinctive groups of natural products in extracts and fractions: (I) very polar substances, including allantoin, (II) phenolic substances as flavonoids and phenolic acids and (III) diosgenin and derivatives. Sensitive mice received casein feed with supplementation of crude extract (CE) and fractions. The supplementation with all products from D. trifida reduced IGE, intestinal oedema and mucus production, parameters observed in OVA allergic mice. The results showed the potential of this food to prevent or treat this disease and the necessity to be better explored.  相似文献

The physico-chemical properties of three grafted pullulans (P) having linked poly(3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride (pAPTAC) as side chains (P-g-pAPTAC1, P-g-pAPTAC2 and P-g-pAPTAC3 with 22.53, 29.05, and 34.51 (wt.%) of pAPTAC content in polymer, respectively) and possessing polyelectrolyte character were determined by light scattering analysis. All grafted pullulan aqueous solutions were tested in the presence of 0.5 M NaCl, KCl, NaNO3 or KNO3. The biggest associations were recorded in 0.5 M NaCl aqueous solutions for P-g-pAPTAC1, P-g-pAPTAC2 and P-g-pAPTAC3 according to the maximum values for Rg extracted from MALLS (multiangle laser light scattering) measurements. Also, the dominant conformation in salted solution of these polyelectrolytes was random coil as Debye plot analysis revealed. Antibacterial activity was tested by Kirby–Bauer diffusion method and all grafted pullulans dissolved in aqueous solutions of 0.5 M NaCl have developed inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923).  相似文献

The leather industry produces a large quantity of solid waste (wet blue leather), which contains a high amount of chromium. After its removal from wet blue leather, a solid collagenic material is recovered, containing high nitrogen levels, which can be used as a nitrogen source in agriculture. In order to take more advantage of the collagen, it was enriched with mineral P and K in order to produce NPK formulations. The objective was also to evaluate the efficiency of such formulations as a nutrient supply for rice plants in an Oxisoil, under greenhouse conditions. The application of PK enriched-collagen formulations resulted in N contents in the vegetative parts and grains of rice plants which were equivalent or superior to those obtained with urea and commercial NPK formulations.  相似文献

Glassy carbon (GC) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were used as fillers for the preparation of antistatic and biodegradable composites based on poly (lactic acid)/poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PLA/PHBV) blend. In this work, PLA/PHBV (80/20) blends with the addition of different GC contents (0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt%) were prepared by melt mixing using a twin-screw extruder, and specimens were injection molded. Furthermore, hybrid composites were prepared with the addition of 5 wt% of GNP and different GC contents (0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt%) using the same processing. The effect of the addition of GC and GNP on the mechanical, electrical, and electromagnetic properties and its effect on the biodegradability of the PLA/PHVB blend was evaluated. The simultaneous addition of GC (0.3 and 0.5 wt%) and GNP (5 wt%) significantly increases the elastic modulus and decreases the electrical resistivity, becoming suitable for electrostatic discharge protection packaging applications. The hybrid composite GC0.5/GNP5 reached a maximum value of total attenuation (4.5 dB), which corresponds to 60% EMI shielding. The degree of crystallinity affects biodegradability more than the type or presence of carbon material. After 110 days of anaerobic biodegradation, the hybrid composite exhibited 10% biodegradability due to the high degree of crystallinity that hinders the biodegradability process. The hybrid composites with the addition of GC and GNP are very promising for use in antistatic packaging.  相似文献
