An image solution for the canonical electrostatic problem of a point charge in an anisotropic half-space bounded by another anisotropic half-space is presented. The image source is obtained in operator form by using Fourier-transformed Maxwell equations and transmission line theory. After applying Heaviside operator calculus the image operator can be interpreted as a combination of a point charge and a sector of planar charge. The new theory is shown to coincide with the previously known image solutions of less general anisotropic media. In addition to being applicable to any physically feasible anisotropic medium of electrostatics, the method can be used for steady-current conductivity problems via a duality transformation.  相似文献

The complex formation between metal ions and carbohydrates in solvent mixtures has been studied by chromatographic measurements. The effect of noncomplexing partition was decreased by attaching the active groups only on the shell of the stationary phase particles. Poly(styrene- co -divinylbenzene) resin beads were surface-sulfonated for that purpose. Thus the inner part of the sulfonated bead remained inactive and nonswellable. The counter-ions examined were Na + , Ca 2+ , and La 3+ , and the organic cosolvents were ethanol and acetonitrile. The stability constants of the very weakly complexing D -glucose, D -xylose, and L -rhamnose, the weakly complexing D -fructose and L -arabinose, and the strongly complexing xylitol and D -sorbitol were determined. The increasing organic cosolvent content increased the retention times, which is explained by the increased complex stability between the complexing solute and the counter-ion. The effect was greatest for the complex-forming sugars in the Ca 2+ form and for the sugar alcohols in the La 3+ form. The organic cosolvent had only a minor effect on the weakly complexing components, whereas the complex stability of the strongly complexing xylitol and sorbitol in 50 wt% ethanol solution in the La 3+ resin was more than five times higher compared to the stability measured in pure water.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To describe intratrial differences in hind limb symmetry in healthy dogs at the trot, using noninvasive, computer-assisted, three-dimensional kinematic gait analysis. ANIMALS: 8 clinically normal large-breed adult dogs. PROCEDURE: Dynamic flexion and extension angles and angular velocities were calculated for the coxofemoral, femorotibial, and tarsal joints of dogs at the trot. Temporal and distance variables were computed. Essential Fourier coefficients were used to determine mean flexion and extension curves for all joints and to compare differences in movement between right and left hind limbs. Variances attributable to limb, dog, and trial were determined. RESULTS: Each joint had a characteristic pattern of flexion and extension movement that was used to compare intratrial symmetry of hind limb gait. Significant differences were not detected in temporal or distance variables between the right and left hind limbs. Significant differences were not noted in essential Fourier coefficients used to characterize coxofemoral, femorotibial, and tarsal joint angles and angular velocities, with the exception of the cosine-0 coefficient for coxofemoral angular velocity. Variation in joint angle and angular velocity measurements were attributable to individual dog and trial. Variation attributable to limb was negligible. CONCLUSIONS: Intratrial evaluation of right-left hind limb symmetry, using kinematic gait analysis, indicated objectively that hind limb movement is symmetrical at the trot in healthy large-breed dogs. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Documentation of hind limb symmetry at the trot will help provide a basis for direct comparison of both hind limbs in future studies evaluating gait and treatment of dogs with musculoskeletal disease.  相似文献

Gyrotropic media are anisotropic in two respects: the symmetric part of the permittivity dyadic is uniaxial, and furthermore, there is also antisymmetric part in the permittivity. Background

Engineered nanoparticles are smaller than 100 nm and designed to improve or creating even new physico-chemical properties. Consequently, toxicological properties of materials may change as size reaches the nm size-range. We examined outcomes related to the central nervous system in the offspring following maternal inhalation exposure to nanosized carbon black particles (Printex 90).

Methods

Time-mated mice (NMRI) were exposed by inhalation, for 45 min/day to 0, 4.6 or 37 mg/m3 aerosolized carbon black on gestation days 4–18, i.e. for a total of 15 days. Outcomes included maternal lung inflammation (differential cell count in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and Saa3 mRNA expression in lung tissue), offspring neurohistopathology and behaviour in the open field test.

Results

Carbon black exposure did not cause lung inflammation in the exposed females, measured 11 or 28–29 days post-exposure. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression levels were dose-dependently increased in astrocytes around blood vessels in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus in six weeks old offspring, indicative of reactive astrogliosis. Also enlarged lysosomal granules were observed in brain perivascular macrophages (PVMs) in the prenatally exposed offspring. The number of parvalbumin-positive interneurons and the expression levels of parvalbumin were decreased in the motor and prefrontal cortices at weaning and 120 days of age in the prenatally exposed offspring. In the open field test, behaviour was dose-dependently altered following maternal exposure to Printex 90, at 90 days of age. Prenatally exposed female offspring moved a longer total distance, and especially males spent significantly longer time in the central zone of the maze. In the offspring, the described effects were long-lasting as they were present at all time points investigated.

Conclusion

The present study reports for the first time that maternal inhalation exposure to Printex 90 carbon black induced dose-dependent denaturation of PVM and reactive astrocytes, similarly to the findings observed following maternal exposure to Printex 90 by airway instillation. Of note, some of the observed effects have striking similarities with those observed in mouse models of neurodevelopmental disorders.

On the 23 March 2018, the most recent developments of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) law were examined by experts in Helsinki. The main theme of the conference was the comparison of the implementation experiences of various countries concerning the reformed EU EIA Directive. The European EIA debate was reflected against experiences in Canada. This paper examines the key points of the conference presentations and the lessons of the event.  相似文献

Plasma endotoxin, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta), interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra), and interleukin 6 (IL-6) concentrations in 69 bacteremic patients were compared with those in 54 nonbacteremic patients suffering from suspected bacterial infections. Only three (11%) of the 27 patients with gram-negative bacteremia showed detectable levels of endotoxin. TNF-alpha was detected in 6% of the bacteremic patients and in none of the nonbacteremic patients. Median IL-6 levels were significantly higher in bacteremic than in nonbacteremic patients (55 vs. 0 pg/ml, p = 0.0008). IL-6 concentrations were similar in neutropenic and non-neutropenic bacteremic patients (median 55 vs. 74 pg/ml). In contrast, neutropenic bacteremic patients had significantly lower concentrations of IL-1ra than non-neutropenic bacteremic patients (250 vs. 1,950 pg/ml, p < 0.0001). Patients with fatal bacteremia had significantly higher concentrations of IL-6 and IL-1ra than the survivors (median, 450 vs. 40, p = 0.012 and 7,600 vs. 420 pg/ml, p = 0.0075, respectively). Determinations of endotoxin or TNF-alpha in patients with suspected bacteremia failed to offer clinically relevant data on the prognosis of these patients. IL-6 levels correlated with both the presence of bacteremia and the risk of death. Granulocytopenic patients with bacteremia had lower levels of circulating IL-1ra than patients with normal granulocyte counts, and these levels correlated with poor outcome.  相似文献
