Leaf quality of the mountain birch (Betula pubescens ssp.tortuosa) for herbivores was studied at several hierarchical levels: among trees, among ramets within trees, among branches within ramets, and among short shoots within branches. The experimental units at each level were chosen randomly. The indices of leaf quality were the growth rate of the larvae of a geometrid,Epirrita autumnata, and certain biochemical traits of the leaves (total phenolics and individual phenolic compounds, total carbohydrates and individual sugars, free and protein-bound amino acids). We also discuss relationships between larval growth rate and biochemical foliage traits. Larval growth rates during two successive years correlated positively at the level of tree, the ramet, and the branch, indicating that the relationships in leaf quality remained constant between seasons both among and within trees. The distribution of variation at different hierarchical levels depended on the trait in question. In the case of larval growth rate, ramets and short shoots accounted for most of the explained variation. In the case of biochemical compounds, trees accounted for most of the variance in the content of total phenolics and individual low-molecular-weight phenolics. In the content of carbohydrates (total carbohydrates, starch, fructose, glucose, and sucrose) and amino acids, variation among branches was generally larger than variation among trees. Variation among ramets was low for most compounds. No single leaf trait played a paramount role in larval growth. Secondary compounds, represented by phenolic compounds, or primary metabolites, particularly sugars, may both be important in determining the suitability of birch leaves for larvae. If phenols are causally more important, genet-specific analyses of foliage chemistry are needed. If sugars are of primary importance, within-genet sampling and analysis of foliage chemistry are necessary.  相似文献

The problem of finding a feasible and technically simple tele-existence system for teleoperation of heavy work vehicles is considered with the aid of two experimental test series. Several test persons of different ages and experience were used in experiments in which a basic audio/video tele-existence system with head-tracking was modified into different versions and tested. Conclusions indicate that details of the tasks and work environment have an important role in finding the optimal solution.  相似文献

We present an easy interaction technique for accessing location-based contextual data shown on a head-worn wearable computer display. Our technique, called Context Compass, is based on a regular compass metaphor. Each object belonging to the user’s current context is visualised on a linear compass shown on the screen. The object directly in front of the user is shown in the middle of the compass and can be activated. Whenever the user turns his or her head, the objects on the screen move accordingly. Therefore, an object can be selected by simply turning one’s head towards it. Context Compass consumes a minimal amount of screen space, making it ideal for usage with see-through head-worn displays. An initial pilot study, applying a newly developed usability method customised especially for Context Compass, revealed that Context Compass can be learned virtually immediately. Further, the method itself proved to be successful in evaluating techniques such as Context Compass.  相似文献

Rapeseed oil was oxidized chemically and thermally to produce two distinct oxidized oils. These oils, along with unoxidized oils, were subjected to an artificial digestion model to simulate the digestive processes in humans. Lipid digestion involves lipases that break down the intact triacylglycerol (TAG) molecules first to diacylglycerols, and eventually to sn-2-monoacylglycerols (MAG) and free fatty acids. A high performance liquid chromatography-evaporative light scattering detector-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometric (HPLC–ELSD–ESI–MS) method was developed to monitor the lipolysis and the presence of oxidized lipids. The HPLC–ELSD–ESI–MS analysis enabled the separation and detection of nearly all the lipid species present in the sample after TAG hydrolysis. The HPLC–MS analyses of digestion products revealed that oxidized triacylglycerols are hydrolyzed by the digestive enzymes in a manner similar to that of native, unoxidized molecules. Significant amounts of sn-1(3)-MAG were found in all the samples after lipolysis, however, more of these were found in unoxidized rapeseed oil samples than in the oxidized oils. Several oxidized molecules were identified with the aid of synthesized oxylipids. This novel method is scalable to small-scale preparative fractionation of oxidized lipid molecules from a complex digestion sample. Also, the fingerprint-like, diagnostic, MS profiles of oxidized oils, reference compounds, and digestion products may be a great aid in comprehensive analysis of lipid oxidation and lipolysis.  相似文献

Organic emissions during the thermal drying process are strongly dependent on the drying temperature. In the traditional single stage drying system, the inlet temperature of the drying air has to be relatively high in order to keep the airflow for drying small. In the multistage drying system, the drying airflow is heated up again after the first drying stage with higher moisture content, and then again after the second, and subsequent drying stages. In this method, the drying temperatures are limited in all stages to acceptable low levels, and only the moisture content of the drying air is increasing from one stage to another. As a result the multistage drying system has a lower drying temperature. We have studied the dependence of the organic emissions on the drying temperature, and present the results from drying units operating at temperatures of 100-200°C and below 100°C. The results are compared to previous measurements found in the literature. The estimates for the emissions at higher drying temperatures are derived from the literature values.  相似文献

TAG of butterfat were fractionated according to the type and degree of unsaturation into six fractions by silver-ion HPLC. The fractions containing TAG with either cis-or trans-monoenoic FA were collected and fractionated further by reversed-phase HPLC to obtain fractions containing cis TAG of ACN:DB (acyl carbon number:double bonds) 48∶1, 50∶1, and 52∶1 as well as trans 48∶1, 50∶1, and 52∶1. The FA compositions of these fractions were elucidated by GC. The MW distribution of each fraction was determined by ammonia negative-ion CI-MS. Each of the [M-H] parent ions was fractionated further by collision-induced dissociation with argon, which gave information on the location of cis-and trans-FA between the primary and secondary positions of TAG. The results suggest that the sn-positions of the monoenoic cis-and trans-FA depend on the two other FA present in the molecule. With 14∶0 FA in the TAG molecule, the 18∶1 FA in the sn-2 position are mostly present as cis-isomers. When there is no 14∶0 in the TAG molecule, the trans-18∶1 isomers seem to be more common in the sn-2 position. Also when other long-chain FA are present, the trans-isomers are more likely to be located in the secondary (sn-2) position.  相似文献

To study the impact of industrial pollution on the soil-to-plant uptake of fallout-radiocesium in a boreal forest ecosystem, four study sites were selected at distances of 7, 16, 21 and 28 km from the large copper-nickel smelter at Monchegorsk on the Kola Peninsula (Russia). At each site, soil and selected plant species were sampled from five plots and analysed separately for 137Cs and 40K. The data show that the root-uptake of 137Cs, as characterised by the median aggregated transfer-factor T(ag), decreased significantly (P < 0.05) with decreasing distance from the smelter for the plants Vaccinium myrtillus (from 0.023 to 0.007 m2 kg-1) and Empetrum nigrum (from 0.015 to 0.007 m2 kg-1), but increased for Deschampsia flexuosa (from 0.013 to 0.031 m2 kg-1). For Vaccinium vitis-idaea a significant trend for the T(ag) was not observed. The median 40K activity concentrations in these plants also decreased significantly (P < 0.001) with decreasing distance from the smelter for Vaccinium myrtillus (from approx. 140 to 20 Bq kg-1 dry wt.), Empetrum nigrum (from approx. 90 to 40 Bq kg-1 dry wt.), and also for Deschampsia flexuosa (from approx. 270 to 40 Bq kg-1 dry wt.). For Vaccinium vitis-idaea such a continuous significant trend was not observed. The results for the Cu-Ni polluted soils thus show: (1) that the soil-to-plant transfer of radiocesium can be significantly modified; (2) that these modifications are quite specific; and (3) that modifications of the uptake of potassium do not always correspond to those of radiocesium.  相似文献

Gamma-linolenic acid (Gla) and oils containing Gla have evident positive effects on a variety of disorders, and therefore, the structure of triacylglycerols (TAGs) containing Gla is of special interest. The regioisomeric structures of TAGs 18:3(n-3)/18:2/18:2 (Ala/L/L) and 18:3(n-6)/18:2/18:2 (Gla/L/L) in blackcurrant seed oil were determined by Ag-HPLC/APCI-MS and Ag-HPLC/ESI-MS/MS techniques. In the latter, silver ion adducts were prepared by adding silver nitrate to the postcolumn flow. A new Ag-HPLC solvent system containing nonchlorinated solvents for the separation of Gla- and Ala-containing TAGs is introduced. Ag-HPLC separation of Ala/L/L and Gla/L/L was sufficient and regioisomers sn-LnLL + sn-LLLn and sn-LLnL (Ln, linolenic acid) could be differentiated well with the MS methods used. No discrimination was made between the sn-1 and sn-3 positions. The results show that the methods used are suitable to discriminate and determine the regioisomeric structure of TAGs. The regioisomeric structure of TAG with the fatty acid combination Gla/L/L in blackcurrant seed oil was considered to be practically random (32.7-37.8% of sn-LGlaL). In the fatty acid combination Ala/L/L, the regioisomeric structure is nonrandom (7.3-12.1% of sn-LAlaL) with Ala preferentially in a primary position. It can be concluded that the positional distribution of Ala and Gla is different in Ln/L/L TAGs of blackcurrant seed oil.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of multinomial classification of magnetoencephalography (MEG) data. The proposed method participated in the MEG mind reading competition of ICANN’11 conference, where the goal was to train a classifier for predicting the movie the test person was shown. Our approach was the best among ten submissions, reaching accuracy of 68 % of correct classifications in this five category problem. The method is based on a regularized logistic regression model, whose efficient feature selection is critical for cases with more measurements than samples. Moreover, a special attention is paid to the estimation of the generalization error in order to avoid overfitting to the training data. Here, in addition to describing our competition entry in detail, we report selected additional experiments, which question the usefulness of complex feature extraction procedures and the basic frequency decomposition of MEG signal for this application.  相似文献
