Hydrothermally prepared zinc oxide nanorods are sulphonated (S–ZnO NR) and incorporated into 15% Sulphonated Poly (1,4-Phenylene Ether Ether Sulfone) (SPEES) to improve the hydrophilicity, water uptake and ion transfer capacity. Water uptake and ion transfer capacity increased to 34.6 ± 0.6% and 2.0 ± 0.05 meq g?1 from 29.8 ± 0.3% and 1.4 ± 0.04 meq g?1 by adding 7.5 wt% S–ZnO NR to SPEES. Morphological studies show the prepared S–ZnO NR is well dispersed in the polymer matrix. SPEES +7.5 wt% S–ZnO NR membrane exhibits optimum performance after three-weeks of continual operation in a fabricated microbial fuel cell (MFC) to produce a maximum power density of 142 ± 1.2 mW m?2 with a reduced biofilm compared to plain SPEES (59 ± 0.8 mW m?2), unsulphonated filler incorporated SPEES (SPEES + 7.5 wt% ZnO, 68 ± 1.1 mW m?2) and Nafion (130 ± 1.5 mW m?2) thereby suggesting its suitability as a sustainable and improved cation exchange membrane (CEM) for MFCs. 相似文献

Proficiency on underlying mechanism of rubber-metal adhesion has been increased significantly in the last few decades. Researchers have investigated the effect of various ingredients, such as hexamethoxymethyl melamine, resorcinol, cobalt stearate, and silica, on rubber-metal interface. The role of each ingredient on rubber-metal interfacial adhesion is still a subject of scrutiny. In this article, a typical belt skim compound of truck radial tire is selected and the effect of each adhesive ingredient on adhesion strength is explored. Out of these ingredients, the effect of cobalt stearate is found noteworthy. It has improved adhesion strength by 12% (without aging) and by 11% (humid-aged), respectively, over control compound. For detailed understanding of the effect of cobalt stearate on adhesion, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy are utilized to ascertain the rubber coverage and distribution of elements. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results helped us to understand the impact of CuXS layer depth on rubber-metal adhesion. The depth profile of the CuXS layer was found to be one of the dominant factors of rubber-metal adhesion retention. Thus, this study has made an attempt to find the impact of different adhesive ingredients on the formation of CuXS layer depth at rubber-metal interface and establish a correlation with adhesion strength simultaneously. 相似文献

Wireless sensor network is an emerging technology that enables remote monitoring of large geographical regions. In this paper, we address the problem of distributing attributes over such a large-scale sensor network so that the cost of data retrieval is minimized. The proposed scheme is a data-centric storage scheme where the attributes are distributed over the network depending on the correlations between them. The problem addressed here is similar to the Allocation Problem of distributed databases. In this paper, we have defined the Allocation Problem in the context of sensor networks and have proposed a scheme for finding a good distribution of attributes to the sensor network. We also propose an architecture for query processing given such a distribution of attributes. We analytically determine the conditions under which the proposed architecture is beneficial and present simulation results to demonstrate the same. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to determine an allocation of attributes over a sensor network based on the correlations between attributes. 相似文献

This research addresses the implementation of lean philosophy in a forging company with a focus on radial forging production
flow lines. Here, the prime motive is to evolve and test several strategies to eliminate waste on the shop floor. In this
research, a systematic approach is suggested for the implementation of lean principles. This paper describes an application
of value stream mapping (VSM). Consequently, the present and future states of value stream maps are constructed to improve
the production process by identifying waste and its sources. Furthermore, Taguchi’s method of design of experiments is pursued
here to minimize the forging defects produced due to imperfect operating conditions. A noticeable reduction in set-up time
and work-in-process (WIP) inventory level is substantiated. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of managerial implications

Experimentation plays a fundamental role in scientific discovery. Scientists experiment to gather data, investigate phenomena, measure quantities, and test theories. In this article, we address the problem of designing experiments to discriminate between two completing theories. Given an initial situation for which the two theories make the same prediction, the experiment design problem is to determine how to modify the situation such that the two theories make different predictions for the modified situation. The modified situation is called a discrimination experiment. We present a knowledge-intensive method called DEED for designing discrimination experiments. The method analyzes the differences in the two theories' explanations of the prediction for the initial situation. Based on this analysis, it determines modifications to the initial situation that will result in a discrimination experiment. We illustrate the method with the design of experiments to discriminate between several pairs of qualitative theories in the fluids domain. 相似文献

As a consequence of the phasing out of CFCs, sorption systems appear to be potential candidates to replace vapour compression systems. Amongst sorption systems there exists a choice between several systems, such as liquid absorption, solid adsorption and chemical reaction heat pumps. Nevertheless, few comparative studies between these systems have been undertaken so far. It is the aim of this paper to present such a study based on combined first and second law thermodynamical analysis of the different cycles. Simple entropy generation processes explain why the basic cycles for these systems yield performances much lower than the Carnot efficiency. The possibility of operating regenerative cycles with internal heat recovery and higher efficiencies has also been considered for typical common base conditions. Different entropy generation considerations have been visualised, such as thermal coupling (external/internal), non-uniform temperature component entropy production and other irreversible processes for the COP degradation in these systems. It is found that thermal coupling irreversibilities in solid sorption systems and other internal irreversibilities in liquid sorption systems with solution heat exchanger are dominant in the actual COP degradation with respect to the reversible Carnot COP. 相似文献

A 4-MB L2 data cache was implemented for a 64-bit 1.6-GHz SPARC(r) RISC microprocessor. Static sense amplifiers were used in the SRAM arrays and for global data repeaters, resulting in robust and flexible timing operation. Elimination of the global clock grid over the SRAM array saves power, enabled by combining the clock information with array select signals. Redundancy was implemented flexibly, with shift circuits outside the main data array for area efficiency. The chip integrates 315 million transistors and uses an 8-metal-layer 90-nm CMOS process. 相似文献
