The structure of a series of packed beds of non-equilateral cylindrical particles has been investigated and compared with those of beds of spheres and equilateral cylinders of similar dimensions. It is found that the mean voidage of beds of equilateral cylinders is consistently lower than the corresponding values for beds of spheres and non-equilateral cylinders of aspect ratios 0.25, 0.5, 2 and 3. End effects do not appear to be present in beds of cylinders of aspect ratios of 0.25 and 0.5 and generally, both wall and end effects are significantly weaker than corresponding effects in beds of spheres and equilateral cylinders. This suggests that chanelling is reduced in beds of non-equilateral cylindrical pellets. Whilst the axial voidage distribution of beds of non-equilateral cylinders appears to be almost uniform, the radial voidage distribution bears the effect of confining walls and an oscillatory profile is observed in most cases, but is seen to be irregular for aspect ratios 0.25 and 0.5. The orientation effect of particles of aspect ratio 0.25 in adjacent layers causes an irregular pattern in the axially averaged radial voidage distribution. Observed axially averaged radial voidage profiles suggest that a uniform structure may be achieved by modifying the basic cylindrical shape.  相似文献

The field of dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling is growing at a fast pace nowadays, due to many potential applications in courier services, emergency services, truckload and less-than-truckload trucking, and many others. In this paper, a dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling problem with time windows is described where both real-time customer requests and dynamic travel times are considered. Different reactive dispatching strategies are defined and compared through the setting of a single “tolerance” parameter. The results show that some tolerance to deviations with the current planned solution usually leads to better solutions.  相似文献

This work studies the behavior of a multidirectional laminate under Mode II loading. We describe the process of delamination in a reinforced composite of glass/epoxy. The stacking sequence (plies orientation [± ] was selected to minimize the coupling effects. The Mode II interlaminar test under three-point bending and cantilever flexure using ENF (End Notch Flexure) and ELS (End Load Split) specimens, respectively, was performed and analyzed. The test procedures and the results of strain-energy-release rate study for crack initiation are presented. The fracture process and the mechanical behavior of the two types of specimens are analyzed. The analysis clearly shows a close link between the angle , the ratio a/L, and the thickness h of the specimen. Fracture by delamination can be obtained only with an optimal choice of these parameters. The analysis of the states of stresses at the tip of crack allows us to explain the phenomenon of bifurcation between plies and is confirmed by the experimental results.  相似文献

The authors investigated the association of caffeinated coffee, decaffeinated coffee, and tea with myocardial infarction in a study of 340 cases and age-, sex-, and community-matched controls. The odds ratio for drinking > or = 4 cups/day of caffeinated coffee versus drinking < or = 1 cup/week was 0.84 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.49-1.42) after adjustment for coronary risk factors (1 cup = 237 ml). The odds ratio for drinking > 1 cup/day of decaffeinated coffee versus nondrinkers was 1.25 (95% CI 0.76-2.04). For tea, the odds ratio for drinking > or = 1 cup/day versus nondrinkers was 0.56 (95% CI 0.35-0.90). In these data, only tea was associated with a lower risk of myocardial infarction.  相似文献

We analyzed a lubricated journal plain bearing supporting heavy loaded rotary mill. During start-up operating, after the shaft is lifted by high external pressure lubricant, the speed of the shaft grows from 0 to the operating hydrodynamic speed when, suddenly after the first thirty seconds of shaft rotation, the pressure drops in one recess causing excessive damage to the pad bearing interface. The aim was to understand and provide some answers to the pressure drop in order to give an appropriate correction. Misalignment between the shaft and bearing surfaces was considered and analyzed in first part of the study. According to the obtained results the proposed correction is to use a suitable constant flow lubrication system which avoids the pressure to drop in recesses. A real application was made on a partial pad bearing supporting a heavy rotary cement mill localized at the cement plant of Chlef in Algeria.

In order to determine the effect of Natural Pozzolan (NP) content on the mechanical properties and durability characteristics on Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) as repair material. This study focused on the evaluation of the most factors influencing compatibility between the repair material and the base concrete including mechanicals properties such as, compressive and flexural strengths, elastic modulus, capillary absorption and drying shrinkage. The experimental results showed that natural pozzolan reduces the compressive strength and the flexural strength of ECC at all ages. The elastic modulus of ECC was remarkably lower than that of normal-strength concrete. This lower Young’s modulus is desirable for repair concrete, because it prevents the stresses induced by restrained shrinkage. In addition, the incorporation of high-volume natural pozzolan decreases significantly the coefficient of capillary absorption at long term and increases the drying shrinkage. Generally, based on the results obtained in the present experimental investigation, ECC can be used effectively as an overlay material over existing parent concrete.  相似文献

In this article, we revisit Johnson and Jackson boundary conditions for granular flows. The oblique collision between a particle and a flat wall is analyzed by adopting the classic rigid‐body theory and a more realistic semianalytical model. Based on the kinetic granular theory, the input parameter for the partial‐slip boundary conditions, specularity coefficient, which is not measurable in experiments, is then interpreted as a function of the particle‐wall restitution coefficient, the frictional coefficient, and the normalized slip velocity at the wall. An analytical expression for the specularity coefficient is suggested for a flat, frictional surface with a low frictional coefficient. The procedure for determining the specularity coefficient for a more general problem is outlined, and a working approximation is provided. In this paper we analyze the adhesive properties of two kinds of adhesives, determined by a 90[ddot] peeling test on a PyrexTM substrate. Simultaneously, we observe the mechanisms of flow at the peeling front. An uncross-linked acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive is used, whereas the second one, of the same class, is slightly cross-linked. The mechanisms of peeling are compared with the ones of our previous study (Benyahia et al [8]) and are found to be identical in the case of uncross-linked adhesives. On the other hand, we find new regimes of flow when the adhesive is cross-linked.

To investigate these differences further, we determine the rheometrical properties of the adhesives in dynamic shear tests and in uniaxial elongational experiments. Furthermore, surfaces are characterized.

A discussion of the peeling curves is finally presented, showing the combined effects of the rheological properties and the surface ones. Conditions for predicting the type of regimes and transitions are also investigated.  相似文献

The design of an effective plant‐wide control strategy is a key challenge for the development of future continuous pharmaceutical processes. This article presents a case study for the design of a plant‐wide control structure for a system inspired by an end‐to‐end continuous pharmaceutical pilot plant. A hierarchical decomposition strategy is used to classify control objectives. A plant‐wide dynamic model of the process is used to generate parametric sensitivities, which provide a basis for the synthesis of control loops. Simulations for selected disturbances illustrate that the critical quality attributes (CQAs) of the final product can be kept close to specification in the presence of significant and persistent disturbances. Furthermore, it is illustrated how selected CQAs of the final product can be brought simultaneously to a new setpoint while maintaining the remaining CQAs at a constant value during this transition.
