This article, based on scientific research and clinical observations, suggests that memory loss is not an inevitable consequence of aging and that Alzheimer's disease can be prevented and reversed using an integrated medical approach. Three new associations with memory loss other than age, heredity, and genetics are described. They include a high-fat diet, chronic unbalanced stress with its attendant risk in the adrenal hormone cortisol, and the presence of cardiovascular disease. A 4-pillar integrative medical program on brain longevity is presented. The program includes a diet consisting of 15% fat and supplementation with brain-specific nutrients such as vitamin B complex, vitamin E, ubiquinone, ginkgo biloba, and phosphatidylserine. In addition, stress-relieving meditation, mind-body and cognitive exercise, antiaging drugs like L-deprenyl citrate, as well as hormones such as dehydroepiandrosterone and pregnenolone complete the program. Patient benefits such as greater wisdom and spiritual happiness are also explored.  相似文献

The present article is concerned with analysis of large deflection of a heated thin annular sector plate with clamped edges under transient temperature distribution using Berger’s approximate methods. The prescribed surface temperature is at the top face of the plate whereas the bottom face is kept at zero temperature. In this study, the Laplace transform as well as the classical method have been used for the solution of heat conduction equation. The thermal moment is derived on the basis of temperature distribution, and its stresses are obtained using resultant bending moment and resultant forces per unit length. The calculations are obtained for the aluminium plate in the form of an infinite series involving Bessel functions, and the numerical results for temperature, deflection, resultant bending moments, and thermal stresses have been illustrated by graphs.  相似文献

RNA interference holds great potential for cancer therapeutics and its success is highly dependent on an effective delivery system. As most preclinical drug screening in vitro was conducted in flat monolayer cell cultures, development of more physiologically relevant models is needed to enhance testing reliability and effectiveness. Here, the aim was to develop 3D cell spheroids and evaluate the efficiency of NP1, a novel cell penetrating peptide, CPP (STR-H16R8), developed by our group to assist siRNA delivery. NP1 elicited significant cellular uptake of siRNA and promoted great siRNA knockdown efficiency of Bcl-2 and VEGF mRNA in 3D spheroids (53% and 51%, respectively), induced marked apoptosis after silencing HIF mRNA, and 3D spheroids displayed apoptosis resistance compared to 2D cells. Taken together, 3D spheroids provide an improved model for testing siRNA delivery and NP1 has proved to be a powerful in vitro transfection reagent.  相似文献

Three water‐soluble polymers containing linear alkyl monool, 1,2‐diol, and 1,2,3‐triol groups, mostly on the primary amines of polyethylenimine, were synthesized, characterized, and tested for their ability to recover boric acid. The boron‐binding capacities of these polymers and the backbone polyethylenimine were determined by titration, ultrafiltration, and inductively coupled plasma/atomic emission spectroscopy analysis. At low boron concentrations, the 1,2,3‐triol polymer performed better than the 1,2‐diol, whereas at high boron concentrations, the 1,2‐diol outperformed the 1,2,3‐triol. 11B‐NMR spectroscopy and retention studies with various salt concentrations indicated that boron interacted with these two polymers by means of ion pairing with the protonated amines and by borate ester formation. For the monool and the polyethylenimine backbone, the mechanism for boron binding was ion pairing only. These polymers are under consideration for the selective recovery and recycling of enriched boric acid used in the primary coolant loop of pressurized water nuclear reactors. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The principal aim of this article is to investigate the thermoelastic problems on an elliptical plate in which interior heat sources are generated within the solid, with compounded effect due to sectional heating and boundary conditions of the Dirichlet type. The analysis is based on the small-deflection theory of the elliptical plate and performed in the elliptical coordinate system. In addition, the intensities of bending moments, twisting moments, etc., are formulated involving the Mathieu and modified functions and their derivatives. The analytical solution for the thermal stress components is obtained in terms of resultant forces and resultant moments.  相似文献

Long, needle-shaped single crystals of K2TiO3 were grown out of a reactive high temperature hydroxide melt. The structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and found to crystallize in the orthorhombic Cmcm space group with a = 10.0283(2) Å, b = 6.9346(2) Å, c = 5.4534(1) Å, V = 379.242(15) Å3, and Z = 4. The structure is related to the K2SnO3 and K2ZrO3 structures, which crystallize in the Pnma space group, and that of K2PbO3, which crystallizes in the Cmc21 space group. The structure consists of chains of trans edge-sharing TiO5 rectangular pyramids with alternating apical directions. The chains are separated by KO7 polyhedra.  相似文献

Abstract

This study investigates the theoretical outline to couple both classical Fourier’s and Fick’s laws to frame a new model of two-temperature hygrothermoelastic diffusion theory for a non-simple rigid material. Based on hygrothermoelasticity method, a system of linearly coupled partial differential equations for the thermal and moisture diffusion for the case of a non-simple medium is established. The transient response using the decoupled technique of a multilayered elliptic plate perpendicular to the axial axis, subjected to hygrothermal loading is considered, to derive closed-form expressions for temperature, moisture, deflection, bending moments, and hygrothermal stresses. The solutions to the governing coupled equations and its boundary conditions are solved by employing a new integral transform technique. The small deflection equation is found and utilized to preserve the intensities of bending moments and stresses, involving the Mathieu functions and its derivatives. Moreover, the elliptical region can be degenerated into a circular part by applying limitations. Numerical results of the transient response of hygrothermoelastic fields are established graphically for the better understanding the underlying elliptic structure, improved understanding of its relationship to circular profile, and better estimates of the effect of the associated hygrothermoelastic responses.  相似文献

Abstract

Thermoelastic analysis of an isotropic homogeneous multi-stacked elliptical plate has been considered in this research. For which multi-layered plate is taken into consideration on a plane-parallel elliptic geometry perpendicular to the z-direction. The governing equations are considered in the context of time-fractional derivative of the order α with temperature distribution in each s layer of the stacked plate with time-dependent sectional heat supply on the lower and upper face. The multi-stacked profile consists of s discrete plates each of a different material with perfect thermal contact at each of its s-1 interface. The general solution, which perfectly satisfies the fundamental equation of heat conduction, is obtained using an integral transformation technique. It is solved using a type of quasi-orthogonality relationship by modifying Vodicka’s method and the Laplace transformation. The analysis is based on the small-deflection theory corresponding to the fundamental solutions for the fractional-order heat conduction equation. In addition to this, the intensities of bending moments, forces, maximum normal stresses and its associated stresses are formulated involving the Mathieu functions. As a special case, a multi-stacked circular plate is also discussed in detail as a limiting case. Numerical calculations are also performed, and the results are graphically illustrated.  相似文献

Investigated the accuracy of the factual recall of highly hypnotically susceptible undergraduates both during and after the hypnotic procedure. Third-party verification (parent report) of the accuracy of recall was obtained for 2 S groups: 14 hypnotized Ss and 10 postsimulation control Ss. Results indicate that, despite the similarity to children in their way of relating to transitional objects, hypnotic Ss were significantly less able than control Ss to correctly identify the specific transitional objects actually used. Furthermore, all recollections obtained during hypnosis were incorporated into posthypnotic recollections, regardless of accuracy. Clinical implications are discussed.
