The fluid resistance of single micrometre-sized blank and DNA-grafted polystyrene microspheres under shear flow is compared in purified water and dilute λ-DNA solutions by means of optical tweezers experiments with a high spatial (±4 nm) and temporal (±0.2 ms) resolution. The measurement results show that the drag experienced by a colloid in a dilute λ-DNA solution (molecular weight of 48,502 bp per molecule, radius of gyration of 0.5 μm) is significantly decreased if the microsphere bears a grafted DNA brush. This newly discovered drag reduction effect is studied for different parameters, comprising the molecular weight of the grafted DNA molecules (250 bp, 1000 bp and 4000 bp), the concentration of the λ-DNA solution (11, 17 and 23 μg ml?1, all being significantly smaller than the critical entanglement concentration c1), the microsphere core diameter (2 μm, 3 μm and 6 μm) as well as the flow speed of the medium (10–50 μm s?1). The maximum extent of the drag reduction is found to amount to (60 ± 20)% compared to the λ-DNA-induced contribution on the drag acting on blank colloids. We propose a theoretical explanation of this effect based on the combination of the dynamic density functional theory of Rauscher and co-workers [Rauscher M. J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 2010;22:364109] and the stagnation length theory of polymer brushes, as it was established by Kim, Lobaskin et al. [Kim et al. Macromolecules 2008;42(10):3650–3655]. In particular, the solution of the Stokes equation (i.e., the Navier–Stokes equation for creeping flow) for the studied system yields a numerical prediction that is found to be in full accord with our experimental results within measurement uncertainty.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Umfangreiche akute, subakute und chronische Versuche über die Toxieität der Weichmacher Benzyloctyladipinat, Dibutylphthalat, Mesamoll, Dicyclohexylphthalat und Polymerweichmacher PW 63/51 ergaben, daß alle geprüften Substanzen wenig giftig sind. Es spricht aber manches dafür, daß Mesamoll und PW 63/51 eine besonders günstige Beurteilung hinsichtlich der Unbedenklichkeit ihrer Verwendung auch in Folien, die zur Verpackung von Lebensmitteln gebraucht werden sollen, verdienen. Vor dem Einsatz von Dibutylphthalat zu dem genannten Zweck werden weitere Versuche für nötig gehalten.  相似文献

Arenes are selectively oxidized to the corresponding quinones employing ruthenium(2,2′,6′:2′′‐terpyridine)(2,6‐pyridinedicarboxylate) [Ru(tpy)(pydic] as catalyst and hydrogen peroxide as the terminal oxidant. Applying alkylated naphthalenes and phenols, benzo‐ and naphthoquinones are obtained in up to 93% yield. The industrially interesting oxidation of 2‐methylnaphthalene gave 74% of the corresponding quinones and 60% of menadione (vitamin K3). 2,3,5‐Trimethylbenzoquinone which constitutes the key intermediate for vitamin E is obtained in 83% yield.  相似文献

Occurrence of phthalates and bisphenol A and F in the environment   总被引:51,自引:0,他引:51  
Certain xenoestrogens, namely bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol F (BPF), butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), were measured in various compartments (surface water, sediments, sewage treatment plant effluents, sewage sludge, dump water, liquid manure) in order to contribute to a better understanding of exposure to these compounds in different environments. Hundred and sixteen surface-water samples and 35 sediments from rivers, lakes and channels, 39 sewage effluents, and 38 sewage sludges were collected in Germany. Furthermore, ten liquid manure, two waste-dump and two compost-runoff water samples were also analysed. BPA measurements showed low concentrations from 0.0005 to 0.41 microg L(-1) in surface water, in sewage effluents from 0.018 to 0.702 microg L(-1), in sediments from 0.01 to 0.19 mgkg(-1) and in sewage sludge from 0.004 to 1.363mgkg(-1) dw. Measured concentrations of BPF were clearly lower than BPA in all environmental media. DEHP dominated the phthalate concentrations, which ranged from 0.33 to 97.8 microg L(-1) (surface water), 1.74 to 182 microg L(-1) (sewage effluents), 27.9 to 154 mgkg(-1) dw (sewage sludge) and 0.21 to 8.44 mgkg(-1) (sediment). DBP was found only in minor concentrations and BBP, only in a few samples in low amounts. Very high concentrations of BPA and phthalates were confirmed in waste dump water and compost water samples as well as in the liquid manure samples.  相似文献

According to the NMC Horizon Report (Johnson et al. in Horizon Report Europe: 2014 Schools Edition, Publications Office of the European Union, The New Media Consortium, Luxembourg, Austin, 2014 [1]), data-driven learning in combination with emerging academic areas such as learning analytics has the potential to tailor students’ education to their needs (Johnson et al. 2014 [1]). Focusing on this aim, this article presents a web-based (training) platform for German-speaking users aged 8–12.Our objective is to support primary-school pupils—especially those who struggle with the acquisition of the German orthography—with an innovative tool to improve their writing and spelling competencies. On this platform, which is free of charge, they can write and publish texts supported by a special feature, called the intelligent dictionary. It gives automatic feedback for correcting mistakes that occurred in the course of fulfilling a meaningful writing task. Consequently, pupils can focus on writing texts and are able to correct texts on their own before publishing them. Additionally, they gain deeper insights in German orthography. Exercises will be recommended for further training based on the spelling mistakes that occurred. This article covers the background to German orthography and its teaching and learning as well as details concerning the requirements for the platform and the user interface design. Further, combined with learning analytics we expect to gain deeper insight into the process of spelling acquisition which will support optimizing our exercises and providing better materials in the long run.

For UV-curable acrylate coatings reinforced by silica nanoparticles, the effect of 172 nm excimer irradiation on the surface roughness has been studied. A dual UV lamp set-up consisting of a 172 nm excimer lamp and a mercury arc lamp allowed obtaining gloss levels down to 0.5 units (at 60°) depending on the acrylate formulation and curing conditions. Moreover, UV matt-finished sample showed enhanced surface hardness and increased chemical resistance. It is assumed that 172 nm excimer irradiation resulted in a higher network density via additional cross-linking reactions.To study the depth profile of acrylate conversion for coatings cured by the combination of a 172 nm excimer lamp (accountable for surface curing) and a mercury arc lamp (responsible for through curing), FTIR microscopy as well as (Ge)ATR-FTIR having an IR penetration depth of less than 0.5 μm have been applied. Providing the presence of a photoinitiator as well as the absence of oxygen inhibition, similar degrees of double bond conversion of about 90% were observed on the entire area of the cross-section of the coating, i.e. the wavelength of UV irradiation was found to have no significant impact on acrylate conversion.  相似文献

A convenient and selective oxidation of alcohols with hydrogen peroxide to give aldehydes and ketones has been developed. Using in situ generated iron chloride complexes [Fe( L3 )2Cln] [n=0–1, L3 =6‐(N‐phenylbenzimidazoyl)‐2‐pyridinecarboxylic acid], aldehydes and ketones were obtained in good yield and excellent selectivity after a short reaction time at room temperature.  相似文献

The superfamily of α/β-hydrolase fold enzymes is one of the largest known protein families, including a broad range of synthetically useful enzymes such as lipases, esterases, amidases, hydroxynitrile lyases, epoxide hydrolases and dehalogenases. This minireview covers methods developed for efficient protein engineering of these enzymes. Special emphasis is placed on the alteration of enzyme properties such as substrate range, thermostability and enantioselectivity for their application in biocatalysis. In addition, concepts for the investigation of the evolutionary relationship between the different members of this protein superfamily are covered, together with successful examples.  相似文献
