Increasing the corrosion resistance of equipment due to the use of film-forming amines

Results of a study of tube specimens cut from hot-water boilers show that film-forming octadecyl amine (ODA) used in the process of preservation removes deposition from the surface of the metal. An ODA film is preserved on the surface after repeated washing of the latter with hot water. Experimental and theoretical studies of the crossover behavior of the specific heat Cv,x of ethane,propane, and their mixture at critical isochores

The specific heat at constant volume, C_v, of propane, and mixture with a concentration ofx=0.0081 cool fraction of propane was measured along the critical isochores at temperatures between 290 and 400 K. The measurements were performed with a high-temperature constant-volume adiabatic calorimeter. The uncertainty of most of the measurements is estimated to be less than 1.5%. Measurements have been carried out in both the one- and two-phase regions. The results for the pure components are compared with earlier measurements. Crossover equations forC, obtained on the basis of the renormalization-group method and -expansion are applied to represent our experimental specific heat data for ethane, propane. and its mixture along the critical isochores.     

Kinetic regularities of reduction of oxide and hydroxide powder materials based on iron, nickel, and copper with various dispersities

Kinetic features of the joint reduction of binary and ternary oxide and hydroxide powders based on Fe, Ni, and Cu with various dispersities are considered. Established regularities make it possible to form the prerequisites for the dedicated synthesis of metallic nanomaterials of a complex composition by chemical methods.     

Ruthenium(II)–Arene Thiocarboxylates: Identification of a Stable Dimer Selectively Cytotoxic to Invasive Breast Cancer Cells

Ru^II-arene complexes provide a versatile scaffold for novel anticancer drugs. Seven new Ru^II-arene-thiocarboxylato dimers were synthesized and characterized. Three of the complexes ( 2 a , b and 5 ) showed promising antiproliferative activities in MDA-MB-231 (human invasive breast cancer) cells, and were further tested in a panel of fifteen cancerous and noncancerous cell lines. Complex 5 showed moderate but remarkably selective activity in MDA-MB-231 cells (IC₅₀=39±4 μm Ru). Real-time proliferation studies showed that 5 induced apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 cells but had no effect in A549 (human lung cancer, epithelial) cells. By contrast, 2 a and b showed moderate antiproliferative activity, but no apoptosis, in either cell line. Selective cytotoxicity of 5 in aggressive, mesenchymal-like MDA-MB-231 cells over many common epithelial cancer cell lines (including noninvasive breast cancer MCF-7) makes it an attractive lead compound for the development of specifically antimetastatic Ru complexes with low systemic toxicity.     

Diagnosis of hyperventilation for elimination of false-positive results of physical exercise test

The study was conducted in 55 patients with cardiac pains. Electrocardiography was used successively prior to, during and following physical exercises, followed by Seldinger selective coronary angiography, and electrocardiography prior to, during and following hyperventilation tests. In 2 of 55 patients the result of the exercise test was interpreted as false-positive, since the coronary angiography demonstrated intact vessels, and during hyperventilation ECG recorded a decreased ST segment. To avoid false-positive results in patients with suspected angina pectoris the physical exercises tests can be considered positive only in cases in which hyperventilation caused no ECG changes typical for angina pectoris.
