Correction of mineral metabolism impairment with an allowance for seasonal fluctuations in patients with ischemic heart disease and hypertensive disease with overweight

The influence of antiaterosclerotic diet with including some biologically active supplements (BAS), containing Zn, Mg, Na, K, Ca, vit C, E, B2, B6, beta-carotene, I was studied in 164 patients with ischemic heart disease and hypertension disease. BAS has been use with an allowance for seasonal fluctuations of microelements sufficiency. The usage of BAS "Lifepack" has priority in spring. The usage of biologically active supplements during 4 weeks in spring has promoted positive changes of clinical symptoms of diseases against a background of lowering increasing of K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn.     

Functional Characterization of Mechanosensitive Piezo1 Channels in Trigeminal and Somatic Nerves in a Neuron-on-Chip Model

Mechanosensitive ion channels, Piezo1 and 2, are activated by pressure and involved in diverse physiological functions, including senses of touch and pain, proprioception and many more. Understanding their function is important for elucidating the mechanosensitive mechanisms of a range of human diseases. Recently, Piezo channels were suggested to be contributors to migraine pain generation. Migraine is typically characterized by allodynia and mechanical hyperalgesia associated with the activation and sensitization of trigeminal ganglion (TG) nerve fibers. Notably, migraine specific medicines are ineffective for other types of pain, suggesting a distinct underlying mechanism. To address, in a straightforward manner, the specificity of the mechanosensitivity of trigeminal vs. somatic nerves, we compared the activity of Piezo1 channels in mouse TG neurons vs. dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons. We assessed the functional expression of Piezo1 receptors using a conventional live calcium imaging setup equipped with a multibarrel application system and utilizing a microfluidic chip-based setup. Surprisingly, the TG neurons, despite higher expression of the Piezo1 gene, were less responsive to Piezo1 agonist Yoda1 than the DRG neurons. This difference was more prominent in the chip-based setup, suggesting that certain limitations of the conventional approach, such as turbulence, can be overcome by utilizing microfluidic devices with laminar solution flow.     

Nitrogen metabolism in elderly persons on a low-calorie diet

The clinical trials covered 9 men aged 58-73 years with daily energy losses of 2200-2350 kcal and given for 10 days the diet (1128 kcal/day) containing different food ingredients. A study was made of the main parameters of nitrogenous metabolism. During the time of being kept on a low-caloric diet, the test subjects lost 2.1 kg body mass. Excretion of total nitrogen dropped 34%, urea 57%. Excretion of creatinine appreciably rose (208% of the initial). The calculation of nitrogenous balance demonstrated protein deficiency to be equal to 209 g during experiments. The concentration of free amino acids in blood plasma decreased: that of replaceable by 29.5%, that of essential ones by 37.6%. It is assumed that the tension of body metabolism affected protein synthesis, whereas the protein quota in the diet did not appear sufficient for elderly subjects.     

Treatment of congestive heart failure with beta-methyldigoxin (lanitop)

Methylated Digoxin preparation--beta-Methyldigoxin (Lanitop) was used in 50 patients with congestive heart failure of different etiology (tablets of 0.3--0.6 mG per day). Its employment proved very effective in the treatment of congestive heart failure. It is not contraindicated to patients with chronic coronary insufficiency with underlying athrosclerotic cardiosclerosis with signs of congestive circulatory insufficiency. Side-effects of beta-Methyldigoxin are mild and noted rather seldom.     

Cournot versus Supply Functions: What does the data tell us?

This paper compares two popular models of oligopolistic electricity markets, Cournot and the Supply Function Equilibrium (SFE), and then tests which model best describes the observed market data. Using identical demand and supply specifications, both models are calibrated to the German electricity market by varying the contract cover of firms. Our results show that each model explains almost the same fractions of the observed price variations. We therefore suggest using Cournot models for short-term analysis, since these models can accommodate additional market details, such as network constraints, and the SFE model for long-term analysis (e.g., the study of a merger) since it is less sensitive to the calibration parameters selected.     

The hygiene estimation of polyamide shells safety for the sausage products

It was stated that in terms of technological process of cooked meats production modeling the studied polyamide shells meet the requirements of hygiene safety.
