In this paper we discuss reasoning about reasoning in a multiple agent scenario. We consider agents that are perfect reasoners, loyal, and that can take advantage of both the knowledge and ignorance of other agents. The knowledge representation formalism we use is (full) first order predicate calculus, where different agents are represented by different theories, and reasoning about reasoning is realized via a meta-level representation of knowledge and reasoning. The framework we provide is pretty general: we illustrate it by showing a machine checked solution to the three wisemen puzzle. The agents' knowledge is organized into units: the agent's own knowledge about the world and its knowledge about other agents are units containing object-level knowledge; a unit containing meta-level knowledge embodies the reasoning about reasoning and realizes the link among units. In the paper we illustrate the meta-level architecture we propose for problem solving in a multi-agent scenario; we discuss our approach in relation to the modal one and we compare it with other meta-level architectures based on logic. Finally, we look at a class of applications that can be effectively modeled by exploiting the meta-level approach to reasoning about knowledge and reasoning.  相似文献

Aeromonads in waters and foods can represent a risk to human health. Factors such as sodium chloride concentration and temperature can affect growth and viability of several food and water-borne pathogens. The behaviour of an Aeromonas hydrophila strain in the presence of 1.7%, 3.4% and 6% NaCl concentrations at 24 degrees C and 4 degrees C was studied over a 188 day period. Viability and membrane potential were assessed by flow cytometry; growth was evaluated by plate count technique. Flow cytometry evidenced that A. hydrophila retained viability over the period although varying according to temperature and salt concentrations. Colony Forming Units were generally lower in number than viable cells especially in the presence of 6% NaCl, indicating the occurrence of stressed cells which maintain metabolic activity yet are not able to grow on agar plates. In conclusion, A. hydrophila showed a long-term halotolerance even at elevated (6%) NaCl concentrations and a lesser sensitivity to salt at low temperature; therefore, low temperature and salt, which are two important factors limiting bacterial growth, do not assure safety in the case of high initial contamination. Finally, cytometry appears a valid tool for the rapid detection of the viability of pathogenic bacteria in food and environmental matrices to control and prevent health risks.  相似文献

Mediterranean basins are known for their susceptibility to water stress conditions resulting from a reduction in winter-season precipitation. This region is also prone to the effects of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), a large-scale climatic pattern associated with a displacement of air mass between the arctic and the subtropical Atlantic. Even though previous studies have demonstrated the impact of the NAO on winter climate conditions in Europe and Northern Africa, it is still unclear to what extent the NAO is related to hydroclimatic patterns in Mediterranean areas and whether it can explain its recent drought history. To this end, this study investigates the interdependence between the NAO and winter precipitation, river flow and temperature in two Mediterranean regions: Southern Italy and Nile Delta (Egypt). The outcomes show the presence of significant connections between the NAO, winter rainfall and river discharge.  相似文献

In view of preserving the historical heritage, the deterioration processes of masonry materials and the long term damage of multiple leaf historic buildings is studied from an experimental and a numerical point of view. Durability tests and pseudo-creep tests have been carried out and interpreted through probabilistic models for the service life prediction. The precocious recognition of structural critical states will allow to design repair and strengthening interventions and to prevent total or partial failure of the constructions.  相似文献

Contact effects in organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) sensors are here investigated specifically respect to the gate field-induced sensitivity enhancement of more than three orders of magnitude seen in a DHα6T OTFT sensor exposed to 1-butanol vapors. This study shows that such a sensitivity enhancement effect is largely ascribable to changes occurring to the transistor channel resistance. Effects, such as the changes in contact resistance, are seen to influence the low gate voltage regime where the sensitivity is much lower.  相似文献

Several contributions of circulating microvesicles (MVs) to the endothelial dysfunction have been reported in the past; a head-to-head comparison of platelet- and monocyte–derived MVs has however never been performed. To this aim, we assessed the involvement of these MVs in vessel damage related processes, i.e., oxidative stress, inflammation, and leukocyte-endothelial adhesion. Platelets and monocytes isolated from healthy subjects (HS, n = 15) were stimulated with TRAP-6 and LPS to release MVs that were added to human vascular endothelial cell (hECV) culture to evaluate superoxide anion production, inflammatory markers (IL-6, TNFα, NF-κB mRNA expression), and hECV adhesiveness. The effects of the MVs-induced from HS were compared to those induced by MVs spontaneously released from cells of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI, n = 7). MVs released by HS-activated cells triggered a threefold increase in oxidative burst in a concentration-dependent manner. Only MVs released from monocytes doubled IL-6, TNFα, and NF-κB mRNA expression and monocyte-endothelial adhesion. Interestingly, the effects of the MVs isolated from STEMI-monocytes were not superimposable to previous ones except for adhesion to hECV. Conversely, MVs released from STEMI-platelets sustained both redox state and inflammatory phenotype. These data provide evidence that MVs released from activated and/or pathologic platelets and monocytes differently affect endothelial behavior, highlighting platelet-MVs as causative factors of impaired endothelial function in the acute phase of STEMI.  相似文献

Pesticides are the plague of modern times, although much needed in agriculture, causing damage to the entire ecosystem, including humans. The high operative costs and the requirement of specialized personnel for pesticide detection, incentive to develop alternative solutions such as the set up of cheap, rapid, and simple to use biosensors. In this work, we evaluate the possibility to use the esterase 2 from Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius as a biosensor for the detection of specific organophosphate pesticides. With the recent demonstration of the very high affinity of esterase 2 toward paraoxon, a more complete analysis on the detection methods in water as well as in purposely contaminated fruit juices was carried out. The inhibitory effects of a wide range of other pesticides on esterase 2 were investigated, showing a better selectivity with respect to nonspecific reaction of acethylcholinesterases, the main target of organophosphate pesticides. The applied methodology allowed one to detect 2.75 × 10(-3) ppm of neurotoxic agent, comparable to the efficiency of other acethylcholinesterase-based biosensors. Finally, a raw biosensor, based on EST2 immobilization on a nitrocellulose membrane, was devised and tested for paraoxon detection, showing longtime stability, reproducibility, and sensibility.  相似文献

A large number of recent literature data focus on modification/modulation of surface chemistry of inorganic materials in order to improve their functional properties. Melanins, a wide class of natural pigments, are recently emerging as a powerful organic component for developing bioinspired active material for a large number of applications from organoelectronics to bioactive compounds.Here we report the use of the approach referred as “chimie douce”, involving in situ formation of the hybrids through reactions of precursors under mild conditions, to prepare novel hybrid functional architectures based on eumelanin like 5,6 dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid (DHICA) polymer and TiO2. Two synthesis procedures were carried out to get DHICA-melanin coated TiO2 nanoparticles as well as mixed DHICA/TiO2 hybrid nanostructures. Such systems were characterized through EPR, FT-IR and fluorescence spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and TEM microscopy in order to assess the effect of synthesis path as well as of DHICA content on structural, morphological and optical properties of TiO2 nanostructures. In particular, EPR, FT-IR spectra and TGA analysis confirmed the presence of DHICA-melanin in these samples. TEM measurements indicated the formation of the nanoparticles having relatively narrow size distribution with average particle size of about 10 nm. DHICA-melanin does act as a morphological agent affecting morphology of hybrid nanostructures. XRD analysis proved that TiO2 hybrid nanoparticles kept anatase structures for DHICA-melanin contents within the range of investigated compositions, i.e. up to 50% wt/wt.  相似文献
