Within only a few years, the use of e-learning has increased rapidly in Austria. In certain subjects, up to 60% of university students report using e-learning platforms at least ‘sometimes’ or ‘frequently’ (Unger & Wroblewski, 2006). Yet, which aspects of e-learning do students consider important for their learning achievements and course satisfaction? This question was addressed by surveying 2196 students from 29 universities in Austria about their expectations of, and experiences in e-learning. Multiple regression analyses using Mplus 4.21 were carried out to investigate how different facets of students’ expectations and experiences are related to perceived learning achievements and course satisfaction.  相似文献

Dampness and visible mold in homes are associated with asthma development, but causal mechanisms remain unclear. The goal of this research was to explore associations among measured dampness, fungal exposure, and childhood asthma development without the bias of culture‐based microbial analysis. In the low‐income, Latino CHAMACOS birth cohort, house dust was collected at age 12 months, and asthma status was determined at age 7 years. The current analysis included 13 asthma cases and 28 controls. Next‐generation DNA sequencing methods quantified fungal taxa and diversity. Lower fungal diversity (number of fungal operational taxonomic units) was significantly associated with increased risk of asthma development: unadjusted odds ratio (OR) 4.80 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04–22.1). Control for potential confounders strengthened this relationship. Decreased diversity within the genus Cryptococcus was significantly associated with increased asthma risk (OR 21.0, 95% CI 2.16–204). No fungal taxon (species, genus, class) was significantly positively associated with asthma development, and one was significantly negatively associated. Elevated moisture was associated with increased fungal diversity, and moisture/mold indicators were associated with four fungal taxa. Next‐generation DNA sequencing provided comprehensive estimates of fungal identity and diversity, demonstrating significant associations between low fungal diversity and childhood asthma development in this community.  相似文献

A procedure has been developed for the adsorption of oily or solid substrates of low water solubility onto inert carriers having large specific surface areas. To reduce loss of hydrogen in storage vessels with high energy-to-weight-ratio, new materials, especially polymers, have to be developed as barrier materials. Very established methods for characterization of barrier materials with permeation measurements are the time-lag and flow rate method along with the differential pressure method, which resembles the nature of hydrogen vessel systems very well. Long measurement durations are necessary to gain suitable measurement data for these evaluation methods, and often restrictive conditions have to be fullfilled. For these reasons, common models for hydrogen permeation through single-layer and multi-layer membranes, as well as models for hydrogen gas properties were collected and reviewed. Using current computer power together with these models can reduce measurement time for characterization of the barrier properties of materials, while additional information about the quality of the measurement results is obtained.  相似文献

Rapid detection of airborne fungal and bacterial spores would enable public agencies to respond quickly and appropriately to intentional releases of hazardous aerosols. Automated analysis of microscope images and automated detection of near-monodisperse peaks in aerosol size distribution data offer complementary approaches to traditional methods for the identification and counting of fungal and bacterial spores. First, spores of the fungus Scopulariopsis brevicaulis were aerosolized in a chamber and then collected with a slit impactor; later, digital microscope images were analyzed manually to determine spore cluster distributions. The images also were analyzed with ImageJ, a program that automatically outlined objects and measured Feret's diameter, area, perimeter, and circularity. These characteristics were used to identify spore clusters automatically using two data analysis methods. Second, a computer program was developed to discriminate near-monodisperse bioaerosol peaks from those for polydisperse ambient particulate matter (PM) and was successfully tested using simulated and real aerosol mixtures. The observed agreement between manual and automated spore counts and the ability to detect spore peaks suggest that it may be possible to develop a system to recognize intentional releases rapidly through examination of particle morphology and size distributions. The peak detection procedure is potentially the fastest technique when used with real-time instrument data, but assumes that intentional releases would consist of large numbers of uniformly sized particles in the respirable size range.

Examination of settled dust is often included in investigations of indoor environments to identify the types and concentrations of particles to which building occupants may be exposed. Fungi and bacteria are among the many components in dust that have been studied. Isolation by culture is an established method that is used widely to quantify and identify microorganisms in environmental samples. However, no standard procedures for culturing fungi or bacteria from dust have been adopted widely to ensure the validity of comparing findings from different studies. This paper reviews methods various researchers have used to study surface particles and to isolate culturable microorganisms from dust. Factors that were found to differ included the method of sample collection, the ways dust was prepared for inoculation onto growth media, and the culture media chosen for specific categories of agents. The need for reference methods in environmental microbiology for use in the assessment of indoor environmental quality is discussed.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate the catalytic functions of a new immobilized Thermomyces lanuginosa lipase in interesterification and to optimize the conditions of interesterification for the production of human milk fat substitutes (HMFS) containing n−3 PUFA by response surface methodology (RSM). Thermomyces lanuginosa lipase had an activity similar to that of immobilized Rhizomucor miehei lipase (Lipozyme RM IM) in the glycerolysis of sunflower oil, but the former had higher activity at a low reaction temperature (5°C). Thermomyces lanuginosa lipase was found to have much lower catalytic activity than Lipozyme RM IM in the acidolysis of sunflower oil with caprylic acid. However, the activity of T. lanuginosa lipase was only slightly lower than that of Lipozyme RM IM in the ester-ester exchange between tripalmitin (PPP) and the ethyl esters of EPA and DHA (EE). For this reason, the new immobilized T. lanuginosa lipase was used to produce HMFS from PPP by interesterification with EE. The optimization of major parameters was conducted with the assistante molar ratio of 5 (EE/PPP), a lipase load of 20 wt% (on substrates), and a reaction time of 20 h, with acyl incorporation up to 42%. The model generated significantly represented real relationships between the response (incorporation) and reaction parameters.  相似文献

The purpose of the program to study coatings to prevent fretting fatigue was to determine the optimum fretting fatigue resistant coatings for titanium/steel mating surfaces found in helicopter rotor hub assemblies. Here several problems have been encountered during component accelerated fatigue tests of the hub assembly where fatigue failures of the titanium hub initiated at areas of severe fretting. In order to address this problem a program was developed to evaluate candidate coatings in terms of their ability to reduce or eliminate fretting of Ti-6Al-4V when in contact with 17-4 PH steel.This paper describes the new fretting test apparatus, the results obtained thus far on screening selected coatings which might have potential for fretting protection and an evaluation of bend bar test specimen configurations designed to achieve fretting fatigue under conditions comparable to those experienced in the actual rotor hub assemblies.  相似文献

Fluorine magnetic resonance spectroscopy (19F MRS), spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) and proton anatomical magnetic resonance imaging (1H MRI) were performed on brains and lower extremities of six subjects in vivo concurrently with HPLC of serum to investigate tissue and plasma drug localization and withdrawal kinetics in humans treated with fluvoxamine or fluoxetine. 19F MRS signal was unexpectedly detected in the lower extremities months after complete disappearance of signal from plasma and brain. MRSI suggested that the lower extremity fluvoxamine signal originated mainly from bone marrow. Results suggest long-term sequestration of these drugs or their metabolites mainly in bone marrow and possibly in surrounding tissue and demonstrate the usefulness of MRS to reveal drug-trapping compartments in the body.  相似文献
