Sialidase cleaves sialic acid residues from glycans such as glycoproteins and glycolipids. In the brain, desorption of the sialic acid by sialidase is essential for synaptic plasticity, learning and memory and synaptic transmission. BTP3-Neu5Ac has been developed for sensitive imaging of sialidase enzyme activity in mammalian tissues. Sialidase activity in the rat hippocampus detected with BTP3-Neu5Ac increases rapidly by neuronal depolarization. It is presumed that an increased sialidase activity in conjunction with neural excitation is involved in the formation of the neural circuit for memory. Since sialidase inhibits the exocytosis of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate, the increased sialidase activity by neural excitation might play a role in the negative feedback mechanism against the glutamate release. Mammalian tissues other than the brain have also been stained with BTP3-Neu5Ac. On the basis of information on the sialidase activity imaging in the pancreas, it was found that sialidase inhibitor can be used as an anti-diabetic drug that can avoid hypoglycemia, a serious side effect of insulin secretagogues. In this review, we discuss the role of sialidase in the brain as well as in the pancreas and skin, as revealed by using a sialidase activity imaging probe. It is known that the corrosion resistance of stainless steel is deteriorated by blasting, but the reason for this deterioration
is not clear. A blasted austenitic stainless steel plate (JIS-SUS304) has been characterized with comparison to the scraped
and non-blasted specimens. The surface roughness of the blasted specimen is larger than that of materials finished with #180
paper. A martensite phase is formed in the surface layer of both blasted and scraped specimens. Compressive residual stress
is generated in the blasted specimen and the maximum residual stress is formed at 50–100 μm from the surface. The corrosion
potentials of the blasted specimen and subsequently solution treated specimen are lower than that of the non-blasted specimen.
The passivation current densities of the blasted specimens are higher those of the non-blasted specimen. The blasted specimen
and the subsequently solution treated specimen exhibit rust in 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution, while the non-blasted specimen
and ground specimen do not rust in the solution. It is concluded that the deterioration of corrosion resistance of austenitic
stainless steel through blasting is caused by the roughed morphology of the surface. 相似文献

The composition of the glycosphingolipids of the human gastrointestinal tract was studied. The major neutral glycosphingolipids
were ceramide monohexosides (e.g., GalCer, GlcCer), LacCer, Gb3Cer, Gb4Cer and more polar ones with more than four sugars, whereas neither Gg3Cer nor Gg4Cer were present. The acidic glycosphingolipids consisted of sulfatides and gangliosides such as GM3, GM1, GD3 and GD1a. Also a large amount of sulfatides was found in the gastric mucosa and duodenum. The concentrations of sulfatides in the
fundic mucosa, antral mucosa and duodenum amounted to 416.0, 933.8 and 682.9 nmol/g of dry weight, respectively, exceeding
those in the gastric mucosa and kidney of other mammals. The major molecular species of the sulfatides were identified as
I3SO3-GalCer with hydroxylated longer-chain fatty acids based on the analyses by gas-liquid chromatography and negative ion fast-atom
bombardment mass spectrometry. In contrast, gangliosides in these regions showed a tendency to be lower than sulfatides, and
the molar ratios of sulfatides to gangliosides were about 2.0, whereas those in other parts were less than 0.5. A high content
of sulfatides in the gastric and duodenal mucosa, where mucosa is easily insulted by acid, pepsin and bile salts, may be closely
related to their roles in mucosal protection.
The nomenclature used for gangliosides and other glycosphingolipids follows the system of Svennerholm (Ref. 1) and the recommendation

The change in structure and adhesion strength of the interface by heating in air has been investigated for a plasma- sprayed
alumina coating on a ceramic substrate with a 50Ni- 50Cr alloy bond coating. A veined structure composed of NiO, NiCr
2O4, and NiAl2O4 oxides grew from the bond coating into cracks or pores in the top coating and the alumina substrate after heating at 1273
K for 20 h in air. The NiAl2O4 spinel may have formed by the oxidization of nickel, which subsequently reacted with the alumina coating or the substrate.
The mechanism of the penetration of the spinel oxides into the cracks or pores is not clear. The adhesion strength of the
coating is increased to about 15 MPa after heating at 1273 K for 20 h in air, compared to an as- sprayed coating strength

This study introduces the emerging integrated ecosystem management approach known as Payments for Watershed Services (PWS) as utilized for lake and reservoir basin governance. PWS is built on the central concept of providing economic incentives to watershed stakeholders to assist in management efforts. It channels conservation payments from downstream payers to finance conservation activities conducted by upstream payees. The upstream conservation activities are expected to enhance ecosystem functions, thereby improving water‐related ecosystem services desired by downstream stakeholders. Information on 163 PWS projects in 34 developing countries through the year 2008 was collected and analysed, including their common goals, processes, outcomes, scientific assumptions and socioeconomic rationales. This study recognized one unique PWS characteristic, namely the role of intermediary organizations (i.e. brokers) in integrating the economic incentives of upstream payees and downstream payers in order to facilitate their transactions by means of contracts. Although 75% of the reviewed PWS projects have focused on rivers, and only 10% have considered lakes and reservoirs, the similarity of the intermediary functions performed by lake management organizations and PWS intermediary organizations suggests a greater potential for the future application of PWS designs in lake basins. Drawing on components in the field of New Institutional Economics to interpret the intermediary function within the PWS framework, a three‐part PWS design with 15 steps is proposed in this study for lake basin governance, with a Costa Rican PWS scheme serving as an illustration. This study seeks to communicate the scientific and socioeconomic frontiers for developing locally suitable and integrated watershed governance structures to lake management organizations and other watershed stakeholder groups. 相似文献

We investigated the effect of tofogliflozin, a sodium-dependent glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), on retinal blood flow dysregulation, neural retinal dysfunction, and the impaired neurovascular coupling in type 2 diabetic mice. Tofogliflozin was added to mouse chow to deliver 5 mg/kg/day and 6-week-old mice were fed for 8 weeks. The longitudinal changes in the retinal neuronal function and blood flow responses to systemic hyperoxia and flicker stimulation were evaluated every 2 weeks in diabetic db/db mice that received tofogliflozin (n =6) or placebo (n = 6) from 8 to 14 weeks of age. We also evaluated glial activation and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression by immunofluorescence. Tofogliflozin treatment caused a sustained decrease in blood glucose in db/db mice from 8 weeks of the treatment. In tofogliflozin-treated db/db mice, both responses improved from 8 to 14 weeks of age, compared with vehicle-treated diabetic mice. Subsequently, the electroretinography implicit time for the oscillatory potential was significantly improved in SGLT2i-treated db/db mice. The systemic tofogliflozin treatment prevented the activation of glial fibrillary acidic protein and VEGF protein expression, as detected by immunofluorescence. Our results suggest that glycemic control with tofogliflozin significantly improved the impaired retinal neurovascular coupling in type 2 diabetic mice with the inhibition of retinal glial activation. 相似文献

An alloy of Fe-10Cr-13P-7C was thermally sprayed by three different processes: (1) 80 kW low-pressure plasma spraying (LPPS),
(2) high-velocity oxyfuel (HVOF) spraying, and (3) 250 kW high-energy plasma spraying (HPS). The as-sprayed coating obtained
by the LPPS process was composed of an amorphous phase. In contrast, the as-sprayed coatings obtained by the HVOF and HPS
processes were a mixture of amorphous and crystalline phases. The as-sprayed coatings showed a high hardness of 700 DPN. A
very fine structure composed of ferrite, carbide, and phosphide was formed, producing a maximum hardness of greater than 1000
DPN in the LPPS coating just after crystallization on tempering. The corrosion re-sistance of the amorphous coating was superior
to a SUS316L stainless steel coating in 1N H2SO4 solution and 1N HC1 solution. Furthermore, the amorphous coating underwent neither general nor pitting corro sion in1NUCI solution and 6% FeCl3 6H2O solution containing 0.05N HCl, whereas the SUS316L stain less steel coating was attacked aggressively. 相似文献

A Fe-17Cr-38Mo-4C alloy powder was plasma sprayed by three processes: an 80 kW low-pressure plasma spray (LPPS), a 250 kW
high-energy plasma spray (HPS), and a 40 kW conventional plasma spray (APS). The as-sprayed coating obtained by the LPPS process
is composed of only amorphous phase. As-sprayed coatings obtained by the HPS and APS processes are a mixture of amorphous
and crystalline phases. The three as-sprayed coatings exhibit a high hardness of 1000 to 1100 DPN. The amorphous phase in
these coatings crystallizes at a high temperature of about 920 K. A very fine structure composed of hard ϰ-phase and carbides
is formed after crystallization. The hardness of the coating obtained by LPPS reaches a maximum of 1450 DPN just after crystallization
on tempering and retains a high hardness more than 1300 DPN after tempering at high temperatures of 1173 or 1273 K. The corrosion
potential of the amorphous coating is the highest among the three coatings and higher than that of a SUS316L stainless steel
coating. The anodic polarization measurements infer that the corrosion resistance of the amorphous coating is superior or
comparable to SUS316L stainless steel coating in H2SO4 solution. 相似文献

This paper proposes an efficient and automated scheme to calibrate error motions of rotary axes on a five-axis machining center by using the R-test. During a five-axis measurement cycle, the R-test probing system measures the three-dimensional displacement of a sphere attached to the spindle in relative to the machine table. Location errors, defined in ISO 230-7, of rotary axes are the most fundamental error factors in the five-axis kinematics. A larger class of error motions can be modeled as geometric errors that vary depending on the angular position of a rotary axis. The objective of this paper is to present an algorithm to identify not only location errors, but also such position-dependent geometric errors, or “error map,” of rotary axes. Objective: To investigate strategies for broad mass isolation during outbreaks of infectious diseases. Design: A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted on 300 printing company workers in Beijing, China, which was under mass isolation following the 2003 SARS outbreak, in the 7-8 months after the isolation was lifted. Main Outcome Measures: Individuals with psychological disorders were classified on the basis of scores on the 30-item General Health Questionnaire during the recovery period. Psychological disorders were observed in 49 of 187 respondents (26.2%; 95% CI = 20.2, 32.7). Results: The predicting factor with the highest correlation was income reduction, with an odds ratio of 25.0. Other items obtained were gender, range of activities, eating restrictions, restrictions in going out, disinfection of clothing, and infection control, with odds ratios of 3.2, 5.5, 3.9, 3.2, 0.2, and 0.1, respectively, and the contribution ratio was 87.7%.
