Magnetic nanoparticles (M:NPs) are unique agents for in vivo thermal therapies due to their multimodal capacity for efficient heat generation under optical and/or magnetic excitation. Nevertheless, their transfer from laboratory to the clinic is hampered by the absence of thermal feedback and by the influence that external conditions (e.g., agglomeration and biological matrix interactions) have on their heating efficiency. Overcoming these limitations requires, first, the implementation of strategies providing thermal sensing to M:NPs in order to obtain in situ thermal feedback during thermal therapies. At the same time, M:NPs should be modified so that their heating efficiency will be maintained independently of the environment and the added capability for thermometry. In this work, optomagnetic hybrid nanostructures (OMHSs) that simultaneously satisfy these two conditions are presented. Polymeric encapsulation of M:NPs with neodymium‐doped nanoparticles results in a hybrid structure capable of subtissue thermal feedback while making the heating efficiency of M:NPs independent of the medium. The potential application of the OMHSs herein developed for fully controlled thermal therapies is demonstrated by an ex vivo endoscope‐assisted controlled intracoronary heating experiment.  相似文献

Acid-treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were decorated with TiO2 using the atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique followed by uniform distribution of platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) through magnetron sputtering. Surface analyses were performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Electrochemical decontamination and characterization of the Pt-TiO2/MWCNT electrodes were carried out by CO stripping followed by cyclic voltammetry in acid media. The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was studied in O2-saturated 0.05 M H2SO4 solution using the rotating disk electrode (RDE) method. Durability of the prepared catalysts was examined by repetitive potential cycling. Electrochemical data obtained was analyzed and compared to that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst. It was revealed that the Pt-TiO2/MWCNT catalysts possess higher ORR activity and better durability as compared to that of the commercial Pt/C.  相似文献

In this work, capillary electrophoresis time-of-flight mass spectrometry (CE-TOF-MS) is proposed to identify and quantify the main metabolites in three lines of genetically modified (GM) maize and their corresponding nontransgenic parental lines grown under identical conditions. The shotgun-like approach for metabolomics developed in this work includes optimization of metabolite extraction from GM and non-GM maize, separation by CE, online electrospray-TOF-MS analysis, and data evaluation. A large number of extraction procedures and background electrolytes are tested in order to obtain a highly reproducible and informative metabolomic profile. Thus, using this approach, significant differences were systematically observed between the detected amounts of some metabolites in conventional varieties (Aristis, Tietar, and PR33P66 maize) compared with their corresponding transgenic lines (Aristis Bt, Tietar Bt, and PR33P66 Bt maize). Results point to some of these metabolites as possible biomarkers of transgenic Bt maize, although a larger number of samples needs to be analyzed in order to validate this point. It is concluded that metabolomics procedures based on CE-TOF-MS can open new perspectives in the study of transgenic organisms in order to corroborate (or not) their substantial equivalence with their conventional counterparts.  相似文献

Carotid plaques can be characterised by ultrasound by size and echogenicity. Both size and echogenicity are predictors of cardiovascular events. The aim of this study was to examine whether traditional risk factors and markers of inflammation and oxidation were associated with plaque size and echogenicity. Computerised analysis of carotid plaque size and echogenicity (grey scale median, GSM) were performed by ultrasound in a population-based health survey in 1,016 subjects aged 70 years (PIVUS study). Information on cardiovascular risk factors was collected, together with markers of inflammation and oxidation. Increased Framingham risk score, systolic blood pressure, higher BMI and decreased HDL, lower glutathione levels were related to echolucent plaques. Previous or present smoking was common with significantly more pack-years related to the echorich plaques. Plaque size was associated with increased Framingham risk score, systolic blood pressure, blood glucose levels, smoking, ApoB/A1 ratio, OxLDL, TNF alpha, HOMA insulin resistance, leucocyte count, decreased BCD-LDL and low levels of l-selectin. Low HDL, increased BMI and decreased glutathione levels were associated with the echolucency of carotid plaques, implying metabolic factors to play a role for plaque composition. Markers of inflammation were related to plaque size alone, implying inflammation to be predominantly associated with the amount of atherosclerosis. These results suggest that plaque size and echogenicity are influenced by different risk factors.  相似文献

A method of preparing 5-methylresorcinol and formaldehyde based organic aerogels in non-aqueous media with a benzoic acid derivative as a catalyst is being proposed in this paper. Here acetonitrile is used as a solvent that allows direct drying with carbon dioxide over the supercritical state without the need for a solvent exchange. The acidic properties of 2,6-dihydroxy-4-methyl benzoic acid promote the reaction of sol–gel polymerization, and at the same time it takes part in the reaction as a co-monomer and influences the nanostructure of the material. The evolution of the polymer was monitored using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and the structure of the resulting organic aerogels depending on the molar ratio of 5-methylresorcinol to 2,6-dihydroxy-4-methyl benzoic acid was studied by nitrogen adsorption–desorption measurements, scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectrometry.  相似文献

Oxygenated fatty acids (oxylipins) are secondary metabolites of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Here, we present a novel high‐performance liquid chromatograpic separation on a reversed‐phase column (RP‐HPLC) coupled with electrospray ionization‐tandem mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS/MS) for the determination of various (per)oxidation products of linoleic (cis,cis‐9,12‐octadecadienoic) acid in eight different varieties (four spring and four winter varieties) of wheat (Triticum aestivum). The procedure includes extraction of oxylipins, chromatograpic separation using a linear gradient of aqueous formic acid and acetonitrile, with subsequent identification of compounds by MS/MS. Among the identified oxylipins, leukotoxin (LTX)‐diol and its isomer (iso‐LTX‐diol) are known as potentially toxic substances. The obtained data was used further for comparison of different wheat varieties by principal component analysis (PCA). From the results of PCA, differences can be observed in the patterns of wheat varieties.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to relate brachial artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and the grey scale median of the intima-media complex (IM-GSM) to traditional cardiovascular risk factors and markers of inflammation and oxidative stress. In the Prospective Study of the Vasculature in Uppsala Seniors (PIVUS) study, a population-based study of 1016 subjects aged 70, brachial artery IMT and IM-GSM, who were evaluated by ultrasound. Lipids, thirteen markers of inflammation and nine markers of oxidative stress were measured. The Framingham risk score was related to IMT (p < 0.0001), but not to the IM-GSM. In univariate analysis, HDL-cholesterol, serum triglycerides, fasting glucose, smoking, HOMA insulin resistance index and oxidized LDL levels were related to IMT. HDL and LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, VCAM-1, e-selectin, leukocyte count, conjugated diens, baseline conjugated diens (BCD)-LDL, antibodies to oxLDL, the GSSG/GSH glutathione ratio and homocysteine were related to IM-GSM. In multiple regression models, HDL-cholesterol, fasting glucose and oxLDL levels were the independently related to IMT (p = 0.01–0.04), while serum triglycerides, BCD-LDL and the GSSG/GSH ratio were independently related to IM-GSM (p = 0.0001–0.004). In conclusion, in addition to traditional lipid variables, markers of oxidative stress were associated with both thickness and echogenicity of the brachial artery intima-media complex. Thus, both thickness and echogenicity of the brachial artery intima-media complex might be useful biomarkers in the future.  相似文献

Campylobacteriosis in humans is caused by thermotolerant Campylobacter spp., most commonly by C. jejuni and C. coli. However, no official data for human campylobacteriosis in Latvia is available or cases are heavily under-reported. In accordance with Commission Decision 2007/516/EC the Campylobacter spp. baseline study was performed in 2008 in Latvia but there was no continuous monitoring for the Campylobacter at broiler chicken production level in 2009. The aim of the present study was to determine the occurrence of Campylobacter spp. in broiler chicken production at slaughterhouse and retail level in Latvia. Poultry samples originated from the two biggest Latvian broiler slaughterhouses. Altogether, 240 fresh broiler chicken neck skins, 2400 intact broiler chicken intestines and 240 fresh broiler chicken carcasses were collected during the year 2010. A total of 92.5% of the pooled intestine samples; 60.8% of the neck skin samples and 56.3% of carcasses were positive for Campylobacter spp. There was seasonal variation in proportions of Campylobacter positive samples with seasonal peak on summer months.  相似文献
