Cutting of Y2O3-doped TZP rods by a low-speed diamond saw introduces an unidentified, metastable phase X (x -ZrO2) coexisting with the tetragonal ( t -ZrO2) and the monoclinic ( m -ZrO2) phases initially present in the sample. Further mechanical deformation of the cut surface by indentation or polishing sustains the x -ZrO2. Chemical etching removes the x -ZrO2 and increases the m -ZrO2content.  相似文献

There is an urgent need for a systematic methodology for condition assessment of the bridges because the old bridges of most of the countries are inadequate to carry current-day traffic and satisfy the present codal provisions and even in newer bridges, deterioration caused by unforeseen service condition and deferred maintenance is of great concern. In view of this, an attempt has been made in this study to develop a systematic procedure and formulations for condition evaluation of existing bridges using Analytic Hierarchy Process in a fuzzy environment. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is an efficient decision making tool for complicated problems with multiple evaluation criteria and uncertainty. Fuzzy logic approach has been used to take care of the uncertainties and imprecision in the bridge inspector’s observations. In this paper, first, a methodology has been proposed for condition ranking of number of reinforced concrete (RC) bridges. Then, based on the results obtained from prioritization, rating of the most deserved bridge has been carried out using MADM based fuzzy logic. Computer programs have been developed based on the formulations presented in this paper for evaluating condition of existing bridges and the details are presented in the paper. The methodology and its application are demonstrated through a case study. This methodology would certainly help the engineers and policy makers concerned with bridge management to overcome the problem related to prioritization and decision on funding related to rehabilitation of bridges.  相似文献

Gelatin, because of its biodegradability and ecofriendly nature, has been the best choice for controlled release applications. Montmorillonite (MMT) clay shows a very important role in controlling drug delivery. Hence, an attempt was made in this work to prepare gelatin–MMT nanoparticles by desolvation method using acetone as precipitating agent, glutaraldehyde (GA) as crosslinking agent, and water as reaction media for controlled delivery of isoniazid, a drug for tuberculosis. Characterization of the MMT and isoniazid-loaded gelatin–MMT nanoparticles was carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction study, scanning electron microscopy study, and transmission electron microscopy study. The effect of MMT on gelatin nanoparticles was evaluated in terms of water uptake studies, and subsequently to the release of isoniazid drug in buffer solution at pH 1.2 (gastric pH) and pH 7.4 (intestinal pH). Swelling experiment indicated that the gelatin nanoparticles were very sensitive to the pH environment. The release profile of drug was studied by a UV–Visible spectrophotometer. Cytotoxicity study revealed that MMT-containing nanoparticles showed less cytotoxicity than MMT-free nanoparticles.  相似文献

The paper discusses the aspects of repair and retrofitting technique adopted for a damaged reinforced concrete beam-column joint specimen under cyclic loading. A specimen designed based on Indian Standard specifications with consideration of seismic load but without adopting ductile detailing (NonDuctile) was investigated under reverse cyclic loading. Then, the damaged nonductile specimen was repaired with epoxy mortar and grouted using low viscous polymer, and retrofitted using fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) wrapping in beam and column components and steel plate jacketing in joint region. The experimental results showed that the retrofitted specimen not only regained its original strength and stiffness but also has overcome the deficiencies of nonductile detailing. The present study shows that a proper repair and adequate retrofitting technique can be used for strengthening and improvement of damaged regions in reinforced concrete structures.  相似文献

The anodic dissolution of U and Zr metal was studied in LiCl–KCl–UCl3 and LiCl–KCl–ZrCl4, respectively, at 773 K by cyclic voltammetry and compared with their respective dissolution behaviour in blank LiCl–KCl eutectic. The anodic dissolution of U–Zr alloy in LiCl–KCl–UCl3 was also studied at 773 K to compare with the dissolution of U and Zr. The transfer coefficients evaluated by Tafel analysis and the method of Allen–Hickling for U and Zr dissolution were found to be in fair agreement with each other. U dissolution in LiCl–KCl–UCl3 and Zr dissolution LiCl–KCl–ZrCl4 were also studied by chronoamperometry and the diffusion coefficient value of U3+ was calculated to be in the range of 2.9 × 10−5 to 3.3 × 10−5 cm2 s−1 which is in agreement with those reported in literature. Convolution voltammetric analysis of Zr4+/Zr2+ redox couple in LiCl–KCl–ZrCl4 was carried out for the first time to have a comprehensive understanding of the electrode kinetics.  相似文献

Bionanocomposites were prepared using d ,l ‐lactide–δ‐valerolactone–d ,l ‐lactide triblock and unmodified and modified cellulose nanowhiskers (CNs) at different loadings (0, 2, 4, 8 wt %). Poly(δ‐valerolactone) chains were grafted on CNs for modification. These were characterized by various techniques. The broadening of OH (hydroxyl) stretching region and the presence of low‐intensity peaks at 1064 cm?1 for C? O/C? C stretching vibration and 1426 cm?1 for bending vibration of CH2 group, were evident in Fourier transform infrared spectra of the nanocomposites. The increase in crystallinity was noticed as the amount of nanowhiskers was increased. The nanowhiskers having the width in the range of 80–300 nm were uniformly dispersed in the triblock matrix. The tensile strength and modulus increased by 130% and 50% respectively at 8 wt % of filler loading. The storage modulus, loss modulus, complex viscosity, and tan δ values increased with increased filler loading. Further improvement in mechanical properties was observed with the modified CNs. The modulus mapping from atomic force microscopy confirmed the effective reinforcement behavior of the nanowhiskers. Scaffold fabrication using the bionanocomposite exhibited porous nature, having a homogeneous dispersion of CNs on the surface of the scaffold. The 3‐(4,5‐Dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay confirmed the suitability of the composite material for scaffold application. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. TiO2 thin films have been deposited at different Ar:O2 gas ratios (20:80,70:30,50:50,and 40:60 in sccm) by rf reactive magnetron sputtering at a constant power of 200 W. The formation of TiO2 was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The oxygen percentage in the films was found to increase with an increase in oxygen partial pressure during deposition. The oxygen content in the film was estimated from XPS measurement. Band gap of the films was calculated from the UV-Visible transmittance spectra. Increase in oxygen content in the films showed substantial increase in optical band gap from 2.8 eV to 3.78 eV. The Ar:O2 gas ratio was found to affect the particle size of the films determined by a transmission electron microscope (TEM). The particle size was found to be varying between 10 and 25 nm. The bactericidal efficiency of the deposited films was investigated using Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells under 1 h UV irradiation. The growth of E. coli cells was estimated through the Optical Density measurement by UV-Visible absorbance spectra. The qualitative analysis of the bactericidal efficiency of the deposited films after UV irradiation was observed through SEM. A correlation between the optical band gap, particle size and bactericidal efficiency of the TiO2 films at different argon:oxygen gas ratio has been studied.  相似文献

Fuzzy logic is a means for modeling the uncertainty involved in describing an event/result using natural language. The fuzzy logic approach would be particularly useful for remedying the uncertainties and imprecision in bridge inspectors’ observations. This study explores the possibilities of using fuzzy mathematics for condition assessment and rating of bridges, developing a systematic procedure and formulations for rating existing bridges using fuzzy mathematics. Computer programs developed from formulations presented in this paper are used for evaluating the rating of existing bridges, and the details are presented in the paper. In this approach, the entire bridge has been divided into three major components—deck, superstructure, and substructure—each of which is further subdivided into a number of elements. Using fuzzy mathematics in combination with an eigenvector-based priority setting approach, the resultant rating set for the bridge has been evaluated based on the specified ratings and importance factors for all the elements of the bridge. Then the defuzzified value of the resultant rating fuzzy set becomes the rating value for the bridge as a whole. It is argued that the methodology presented in this paper would help the decision makers/bridge inspectors immensely.  相似文献
