A model for the calculation of the current-voltage characteristics of strained In0.52Al0.48As/InxGa1-xAs on InP substrate High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMT's), based on a variational charge control model, is presented. A polynomial fit of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) density is used for the calculation of the current-voltage characteristics. The effect of strain is introduced into the 2DEG density versus gate voltage relation. Very good agreement between the calculated and measured I-V characteristics was obtained. In addition, our results show that, for an indium mole fraction of the InxGa1-xAs channel in the range 0.53-0.60, increasing the indium mole fraction lowers the threshold voltage and hence increases the drain current at the same gate bias 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To examine the relative contribution of polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) vs endothelial cell (EC) activation on the adherence and subsequent killing of ECs by PMNs. DESIGN: In vitro comparative studies of PMN-EC adherence and cytotoxicity. SETTING: Research laboratory and the surgical intensive care unit of a tertiary-level university hospital. PATIENTS: Patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome admitted to the surgical intensive care unit and hospitalized preoperative noninfected surgical patients. INTERVENTION: None. METHODS: Polymorphonuclear neutrophils were isolated from 21 healthy volunteers, 22 preoperative patients, and 30 patients from the surgical intensive care unit with systemic inflammatory response syndrome. The PMNs were activated with lipopolysaccharide, 100 ng/mL (Escherichia coli 0111:b4), for 40 minutes at 37 degrees C before the adherence and cytotoxicity assays. Human umbilical vein endothelial monolayers were stimulated with tumor necrosis factor alpha, 25 ng/mL, and interleukin 1 beta, 15 U/mL, for 3 hours. The PMNs or EC cells were labeled with sodium chromate Cr 51 and used in a standard adherence or killing assay as required. RESULTS: Control and preoperative patient PMN treatment with lipopolysaccharide produced a modest increase in adherence. The PMNs from patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome showed moderately increased human umbilical vein endothelial cell adherence, and this could not be augmented further with lipopolysaccharide stimulation. There was a marked increase in PMN adherence to EC after EC activation in all study groups (P < .001). Similar to the adherence data, human umbilical vein endothelial cell cytotoxicity was significantly increased in all groups after human umbilical vein endothelial cell activation (P < .01) but not after PMN stimulation with lipopolysaccharide. CONCLUSION: These data suggest that stimulation of ECs is far more important in producing increased adherence and cytotoxicity of EC than PMN stimulation with lipopolysaccharide in all study groups. Therapeutic efforts in patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome should be focused on the EC. 相似文献

Assignment of most genes encoding major peroxisomal polypeptides to chromosomal band V of the asporogenic yeast Candida tropicalis 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The peroxisomes of the asporogenic yeast Candida tropicalis contain about 20 major polypeptides (PXPs). We have isolated a number of genes encoding them; 11 POX genes encoded independent PXPs and three POY genes were likely to encode three other PXPs. To locate these genes on the chromosomes, chromosomes of C. tropicalis were separated by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. Eight chromosomal bands were observed over the range of 1.0 Mbp (band 1) to 2.8 Mbp (band VIII); the genome size was estimated to be about 20 Mbp. Southern blot analysis showed that ten genes were on band V, three genes were on band IV, and the other gene was on band VI. Three genes gave hybridization signals of nearly equal intensity on two different chromosomal bands: POX6A and POX8B, on bands V and VII; and POX8A, on bands IV and VI. Ribosomal RNA genes also hybridized to two bands, VI and VII. Most genes assigned to only one band hybridized to two restriction fragments produced by either NotI or SfiI endonuclease. The results suggested that C. tropicalis was diploid and that restriction sites were conserved little between homologues. The three POX genes that were found on two chromosomal bands hybridized to not more than two restriction fragments, implying that the allelic genes were present on different chromosomal bands. 相似文献

A facile method was developed to quantify unreacted ketene acetals during polymerization of poly(ortho ester)s. The method was based on isotopic (deuterium) labeling of the unreacted ketene acetal groups arising from the diketene acetal monomer, 3,9-diethylidene-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecane (DETOSU). In deuterium oxide, free ketene acetals are hydrolyzed to an α-deuterated ester; ortho ester bonds are hydrolyzed to the nondeuterated analog. The relative abundance of the deuterated ester side chain can be quantified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In the current method, aliquots of a diketene acetal/polyol(s) reaction mixture were dissolved (crosslinked polymers swollen) in methylene chloride and excess D2O. The diketene acetal/polyol(s) reaction mixture was hydrolyzed under mildly acidic conditions to yield pentaerythritol dipropionate (PDP; hydrolysis product of DETOSU). PDP was extracted into an organic phase, silylated, and analyzed by GC-MS. Fragments corresponding to the C2H5C?O+ ion (57 a.m.u.) and C2H4DC?O+ ion (58 a. m. u.) were monitored and the quantity of free ketene acetal groups were calculated from the peak areas of the chromatograms. The precision of the method was ±0.1%. The accuracy, as compared to a parallel 1H-NMR study, was within 5%. This method permits determination of the cure end-point of a poly(ortho ester) polymerization reaction to within ±0.25%. Magnetoactive electrospun fibrous membranes consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), chitosan (CS) and pre-fabricated, double-layer oleic acid-coated magnetite nanoparticles (OA.OA.Fe3O4) were fabricated and evaluated as new adsorbent materials for the removal and recovery of uranium (U(VI)) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption has been investigated by batch-type experiments and the solid material has been characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray analysis (TEM/EDX) and vibration sample magnetometry (VSM) measurements prior and after uranium adsorption. The experimental adsorption data were found to be well fitted with the Langmuir isotherm and the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The results indicate that PVP/CS/OA.OA.Fe3O4 fibrous adsorbents exhibit good adsorption properties towards U(VI) in aqueous solutions, achieving a qmax value of 0.77 mol kg−1 (183.3 mg g−1) at pH 6.0. The experiments regarding the regeneration and reuse of the magnetoactive adsorbents were carried out using Na2CO3, at pH ~11. After four cycles, the percentage relative adsorption remained stable (~100%) whereas the desorption percentage decreased from 31.9% to 21.0%. Generally, the presented results demonstrate that the incorporation of the Fe3O4 NPs has a positive effect on the adsorption efficiency of U(VI) from aquatic environments. 相似文献

The ultrasound diagnosis of the carotid artery is one of the most common non-invasive methods to detect early stage heart and cerebrovascular diseases. However, the precision and repetitiveness of the probe positioning depend exclusively on the operator's skills and dexterity. For this purpose, we propose the development of a robot assisted system to enhance the accuracy and repetitiveness of the probe positioning to measure the wave intensity (WI) index. In this paper, the Waseda-Tokyo Women's Medical-Aloka Blood Flow Measurement Robot System No. 2 Refined (WTA-2R) is presented. The WTA-2R consists of a conventional ultrasound diagnosis system, a 6-DOFs parallel link slave manipulator, a 6-DOFs serial link passive arm, and a master device. Experiments were carried out to verify its effectiveness in terms of accuracy and required time to perform the task. We study quantum effects in a system of S = 1/2 spins with two–, three and four–spin exchange interactions on the triangular lattice, a possible model of the nuclear magnetism of solid

He layers. The ground state phases found in our previous work are studied by using the linear spin–wave theory. The uuud state shows a very flat spin–wave dispersion, which suggests that this state, though locally stable, will not survive non–linear quantum effects. The tetrahedral state, which has long–range order of a scalar chirality, is found to be stable against spin wave fluctuations. The ground state energies of different phases are compared.
