A comparison of the WAIS and the WAIS—R for ages 61–91 years.

The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale—Revised (WAIS—R) were administered in a counterbalanced design to 72 subjects between the ages of 61 and 91 years, to determine their comparability by testing the equality of means and variances based on the scaled scores and IQs. Results indicated that the 2 scales were not equivalent (either with respect to subtest scaled scores or IQs) because they did not satisfy one or more of the criteria. Mean differences between tests showed the WAIS Verbal, Performance, and Full-Scale IQs to be higher than the corresponding WAIS—R estimates by 12, 13, and 13 points, respectively. Stability of some hypothesized psychological determinants of fertility control

Ratings of Self-Status International, a scale designed to measure behavioral and attitudinal correlates of fertility control, was administered to 95 undergraduates on two occasions four weeks apart to estimate the stability of the 12 measured factors. The test-retest correlation of scores from the two times was .58. Ten of the 12 factor scores had estimates of stability ranging between .48 and .69, but two factors yielded coefficients of .23 (p < .05) and .32 (p < .01) only, indicating need for revision or reformulation.     

Isolation and characterization of the monounsaturated long chain fatty acids ofMycobacterium tuberculosis

The positions of double bond in the monounsaturated C₁₅−C₃₂ fatty acids ofMycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra were established by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry of the ozonized esters and their pyrrolidide derivatives. The monounsaturated C₁₅−C₂₁ fatty acids had the double bond primarily at the Δ⁹ position while the monounsaturated longer chain fatty acids (C₂₂−C₃₂) had the double bond in several positions. Many of the latter acids, especially the odd-numbered series, were very complex isomeric mixtures. Quantitation showed the most abundant even-numbered long chain fatty acid isomers to be as follow: C₂₂, Δ⁴; C₂₄, Δ⁵; C₂₆, Δ⁷ and Δ⁹; C₂₈, Δ⁹; C₃₀, Δ¹¹ and Δ¹³; C₃₂, Δ¹³ and Δ¹⁵.

The master’s degree in clinical psychology: Longitudinal program evaluation.

The usefulness of a master's degree in psychology as a facilitator of admission to doctoral programs or as a means of securing full-time, psychology-related employment still remains a debatable issue. All persons who received degrees over a 28-year period (1958-1986) from a terminal master's program in psychology were surveyed on two occasions: in 1973 and in 1986. The data presented focus on the responses of the 105 persons who received clinical MS degrees. Over the 28-year period, 61% of the MS clinical graduates entered doctoral programs in psychology or related areas. Also, except for those who chose to become full-time homemakers or those who were still working toward doctoral degrees, all respondents were employed full time in psychology-related settings. A review of the empirically based reports on master's-level training in psychology between 1971 and 1987 is also presented, so as to provide a continuing historical overview of the master's-level issue in psychology. Oleogels Based on Palmitic Acid and Safflower Oil: Novel Formulations for Ocular Drug Delivery of Voriconazole

The gelation of the vegetable oils using fat crystals has gained significant attention in recent years. These formulations have been explored for food and pharmaceutical applications. The alteration in the properties of palmitic acid (20–40% w/w) and safflower oil oleogels is extensively studied at microscopic and macroscopic levels. The thermal and mechanical stability of the oleogels is improved when the proportion of the palmitic acid content is increased. However, under stress, the fat crystal network junction zones of the oleogels with higher proportions of palmitic acid undergo disruption. The changes in the properties of the oleogels are due to the alteration in the molecular packing, crystallite size, and lattice strain of the fat crystal network. The alteration in the properties is governed by the changes in the extent of inter‐ and intramolecular hydrogen bonding within the components of the oleogels. The oleogels can demonstrate the ability to deliver the drug, voriconazole, across the corneal tissue. Further, the prepared oleogels are biocompatible to murine fibroblast cells and do not elicit adverse reactions when instilled within the ocular sac of rabbits. The results suggest that the oleogels can be tried as ocular delivery vehicles. Practical Applications: The delivery of drug into the internal structure of the eye is a great challenge for the ophthalmologists. Usually no more than 1% of the drug can be delivered through conventional techniques. Various researchers have proposed the use of lipid‐based ocular drug delivery systems. Some of them include solid liquid nanoparticles, emulsions, and liposomes. However, the preparation of these formulations requires a tedious process. Keeping this in mind, it is proposed to synthesize oleogel as probable ocular drug delivery system.     

Mental test performance as a function of payoff conditions, item difficulty, and degree of speeding.

Using analysis of variance and factor analysis, the performance of 41 psychology students on the Michill General Ability Test was analyzed. "… the experimental manipulation of payoff conditions, difficulty, and speeding can introduce substantially important new factors of which the test constructor may or may not be fully aware… . The commonly held belief that, for all practical purposes, test directions provide an adequate control of the Ss motivation and/or mental set is clearly untenable."
