An extruding wire knife was used to give adult male CFHB rats a minimally traumatic unilateral mechanical lesion of the medial forebrain bundle. In addition, some rats received bilateral intrastriatal injections of one of three fluorescent retrograde tracers either eight days before or eight days after the lesion. Injections made after the lesion revealed that about half of the animals had complete lesions of the nigrostriatal tract, while the other half were incompletely lesioned, the mean proportion of non-axotomized neurons being 23%. Over the 10 weeks following the lesions, the number of tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactive cells in the lesioned substantia nigra fell linearly, reaching a mean of 29% of that of the control substantia nigra. In the animals which were completely lesioned, neuronal survival at 10 weeks varied between 6 and 12%. That the disappearance of tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactive neurons was due to cell death rather than the loss of tyrosine hydroxylase itself was confirmed by labelling the cells with Fluoro Gold before axotomy; the tracer was seen in survival neurons, microglia and in a few involuted neurons which continued to be tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactive. This percentage of neurons surviving axotomy corresponds to the proportion of substantia nigra neurons which project to the contralateral striatum, and these neurons were in the region of the substantia nigra from which the contralateral projection originated. It is concluded that following mechanical transection of the nigrostriatal tract, all truly axotomized substantia nigra neurons die over a period of about 10 weeks. 相似文献

Fe3+-ESR measurements are carried out for the samples of (La1–xSrx)2Cu1–yFeyO4–z. Peak-peak width Hpp of the signals decreases with falling temperature until minimum value and rises sharply with further decreasing temperature, which is approximated by Hpp = C0 +C1/T + BT. The Hpp behavior at high temperature and at low temperature can be analyzed by Korringa mechanism and slowing down of Fe3+ spin fluctuation, respectively. From the analysis of coefficient B's of Korringa terms, C0 and g-shift, it is revealed that the magnetic interaction of Fe3+ with hole carriers and Ce2+ spins depends strongly on hole density. 相似文献

Heat and mass transfer with electrochemical reaction in an anode-supported flat-tube solid oxide fuel cell (FT-SOFC) is studied by means of three-dimensional numerical simulation. The distributions of the reaction fields in the anode-supported FT-SOFC are found to be similar to those in the planar SOFC with co-flow arrangement. However, in comparison with the latter, the concentration and activation overpotentials of the former can be reduced by additional reactant diffusion through the porous rib of the fuel channel. Parametric survey reveals that, for a fixed activation overpotential model, the output voltage can be improved by increasing the pore size of anode, while the cross-sectional geometry has smaller effect on the cell performance. Based on the results of three-dimensional simulation, we also develop a simplified numerical model of anode-supported FT-SOFC, which takes into account the concentration gradients in the thick anode of complex cross-sectional geometry. The simplified model can sufficiently predict the output voltage as well as the distributions of temperature and current density with very low computational cost. Dielectric and electrical properties of Permalloy granular composite materials have been studied considering the application to left-handed meta-materials. Surface oxidized Permalloy particles have high surface electrical resistance; the eddy current effect in the composite structure is suppressed. The electrical conductivity of compacted Permalloy particles increases with increasing temperature and indicates the semiconductive layer formation on the particle. The low frequency ac electrical conductivity of Permalloy composite materials shows a drastic increase in the particle content between 50 and 60 vol.%. Electrical permittivity spectra of Permalloy composites show a non-metallic characteristic and the enhancement of permittivity is observed with increase of Permalloy particle content. 相似文献

Late health effects of exposure to atomic bomb radiation have been evaluated in survivors. A cohort of 120 321 people has been followed since 1950 for mortality, including the cause of death using the Japanese population registry system (Life Span Study), and for cancer incidence using population-based cancer registries. Findings have included a markedly increased risk of leukaemia several years after the exposure, increased risk of various malignant tumours several decades after the exposure and, more recently, findings of increased rates of non-cancer diseases such as cardiovascular diseases. 相似文献

Influence of thermal history on primary nucleation and crystal growth rates of isotactic polystyrene
The influence of thermal history on primary nucleation and crystal growth rate of isotactic polystyrene (i-PS) was studied in a wide range of time and temperature. Samples were melted at several temperatures from 230 to 250 °C and then crystallized from those molten states and also crystallized from the glassy state. The primary nucleation rate is strongly influenced by the thermal history but the crystal growth rate is mainly governed by the crystallization temperature. Below a melt temperature of 230 °C, the nucleation density was attributed to the seed nuclei, which result from incomplete melting of the spherulites. Above 250 °C, a limited number of heterogeneous nucleation sites remain, and these sites are activated on the surface of impurities or foreign bodies in the melt. The primary nucleation is controlled heterogeneously both from the molten and the glassy states. The nucleation rate from the glassy state is faster than that from the molten state. A linear relationship between the nucleation rate and the inverse of induction time was found in each experimental condition and their slopes are related to the saturation density of the nuclei. The activation energy for the molecular transport and the primary nucleation energy were smaller than those of the crystal growth. The primary nucleation energy from the glass was lower than that from the melt. These energies are discussed in the present work. 相似文献
