Ambient‐cured polyesteramide (APEA) coating resin synthesized from dihydroxy fatty amide obtained from linseed oil, a sustainable resource, and poly(styrene‐co‐maleic anhydride), a bifunctional acid component, was found to exhibit improved physicomechanical and anticorrosive properties. The structural elucidation of APEA resin has been carried out by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR spectroscopies. The physicomechanical and chemical resistance properties were investigated by standard methods. The corrosion resistance performance was evaluated in acid, alkali, and organic solvent. The thermal behavior was studied by TGA technique. A comparative study of these properties of APEA with reported baked polyesteramide (PEA) coatings was carried out. A remarkable improvement in the drying property of APEA was observed. The APEA coatings also showed improved physicomechanical and anticorrosive properties as compared to the baked PEA coatings. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a sample preparation method based on ultrasonic assisted acid digestion (UAD) has been evaluated for total heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb) determination in different environmental (soil, sediment and sewage sludge), and biological (fish muscles, vegetables and grains) samples, using electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). The investigated parameters influencing UAD such as presonication time, sonication time, temperature of ultrasonic bath, and different acid mixtures were fully optimized, whereas power was maintained constant at 100% of nominal power of ultrasonic bath. Six different sets of above parameters were applied on six certified reference materials (CRMs) having different matrices. The accuracy of the method was also tested by comparing the results with those obtained from conventional hot plate assisted acid digestion method on same CRMs. Analytical results for HMs by both methods showed no significant difference at 95% confidence limit (p<0.05). Recoveries of HMs ranging from 96.2% to 102% and 96.3% to 98.6% were obtained from biological and environmental samples, respectively. The average relative standard deviation of UAD method varied between 3.5% and 8.2%, depending on the analyte.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to estimate total arsenic concentration in different tissues (leg, breast, liver and heart) of broiler chicken by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HGAAS) and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS), prior to microwave assisted acid digestion. The accuracy of the techniques was evaluated by using certified reference material DORM-2. The percentage recoveries of total As were observed as 100.6% and 99.4% for HGAAS and GFAAS, respectively. The precision of the techniques, expressed as relative standard deviation, was observed as 1.71% and 4.18% for HGAAS and GFAAS measurements, respectively. The limits of detection for HGAAS and GFAAS were 0.025 μg/g and 0.052 μg/g, respectively. The concentrations of total arsenic in different tissues of broiler chicken were found in the range of 2.19–5.28, 2.15–5.22, 2.97–7.17 and 2.68–6.36 μg/g for leg, breast, liver and heart tissues, respectively. At a mean level of chicken consumption (60 g/person/day), people may ingest in the range of 72.0–85.1 μg arsenic/person/day from chicken alone.  相似文献

In the last decade, there has been great deal of progress in the study of self-assembly processes of protein assemblies as biotemplates to create and construct one-dimensional arrays of nanocrystalline metals and semiconductors. Successful attempts in fabricating the protein-based bioelectronics could serve as a promising alternative to synthetic template based nanomaterials. Another perspective of protein assemblies is its use in the field of tissue engineering either as scaffold for cell adhesion and proliferation or as a foreign (bio)nanofunctionality to communicate with the macromolecules present in the extracellular or intracellular milieu and participate in the precise control of vital cell functions. Three-dimensionally arranged protein monomers to form bionanotubes are promising in terms of innate biocompatibility, easy bio-conjugation to incorporate multiple functionalities and well-defined nano-scale lengths. Such unique chemical properties of protein assemblies are described in this review.  相似文献

It has been proven that districted matching schemes (e.g., the US presidential election scheme, also called the Electoral College) are more stable than undistricted matching schemes (e.g., the popular voting scheme for selecting a governor in California), and that the theory can be used in pattern classification applications, such as image classification, where by its nature an object to be classified consists of elements distributed in a bounded 2D space. However, the objects of some pattern classification applications consist of features/values of elements lying on a limited 1D line segment. This paper will prove that districted matching scheme can still outperform undistricted matching scheme in these applications, and the improved performance of districted vote scheme is even more substantial for these 1D objects than for 2D objects. The theoretical result suggests the use of districted matching schemes for pattern recognition of 1D objects. We verified the theoretical analysis through artificial neural network-based approaches for the prediction of start codons of nucleotide sequences. Liang Chen received his Doctor' degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1994. He is currently Associate Professor and Chair of Computer Science Department, University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George, BC, Canada. His research interests include general artificial intelligence, image processing, bioinformatics, intelligent language tutoring system, computational intelligence, and fast approximate practical algorithms for solving some NP hard problems. Ruoyu Chen is now an undergraduate student (Class 2, Grade 2002) in Computer Science and Technology College at Jilin University, China, majoring Computer Science and Technology. He started to work with Dr. L. Chen in voting theory from 2003. He holds one Chinese Patent. His main research interests include artificial intelligence, natural language tutoring systems, data mining, and networks. Sharmin Nilufar received an MSc degree in Computer Science from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. She is now a graduate student at University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George, BC, Canada. Universal access from a handheld device (such as a PDA, cell phone) at any time or anywhere is now a reality. Ubicomp Assistant (UA) (Sharmin et al. in Proceedings of the 21st annual ACM symposium on applied computing (ACM SAC 2006), Dijon, France, pp 1013–1017, 2006) is an integral service of MARKS (Sharmin et al. in Proceedings of the third international conference on information technology: new generations (ITNG 2006), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, pp 306–313, 2006). It is a middleware developed for handheld devices, and has been designed to accommodate different types of users (e.g., education, healthcare, marketing, or business). This customizable service employs the ubiquitous nature of current short range, low-power wireless connectivity and readily available, low-cost lightweight mobile devices. These devices can reach other neighbouring devices using a free short-range ad hoc network. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the UA service is the only service designed for these devices. This paper presents the details of Ubi-App, a ubiquitous application for universal access from any handheld device, which uses UA as a service. The results of a usability test and performance evaluation of the prototype show that Ubi-App is useful, easy to use, easy to install, and does not degrade the performance of the device.  相似文献

Gelatin is widely used in pharmaceuticals as a protective coating, such as soft and hard capsule shells. However, the animal source of gelatin is a sensitive issue because certain gelatins such as porcine and bovine gelatins are not welcome in Halal, Kosher and Hindus’ consumer goods. Recently, we have documented DNA barcoding and multiplex PCR platforms for discriminating porcine, bovine and fish gelatins in various fish and confectionary products; but those assays were not self-authenticating and also not tested in highly refined pharmaceutical products. To address this knowledge gap, here we report a self-authenticating multiplex PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) assay to identify animal sources of various gelatin in pharmaceutical capsules. Three different restriction enzymes, BsaAI, Hpy188I and BcoDI were used to yield distinctive RFLP patterns for gelatin-based bovine (26, 94 bp), fish (97, 198 bp) and porcine (17, 70 bp) DNA in control experiments. The specificity was cross-tested against 16 non-target species and the optimised assay was used to screen gelatin sources in 30 halal-branded pharmaceuticals capsule shells. Bovine and porcine DNA was found in 27 and 3 of the 30 different capsules products. The assay was suitable for detecting 0.1 to 0.01 ng total DNA extracted from pure and mixed gelatins. The study might be useful to authenticate and monitor halal, kosher, vegetarian and Hindu compliant pharmaceuticals, foods and cosmetics.  相似文献

Electrically charged cellular ferroelectrets can show excellent thermally stable piezoelectric activity and are therefore progressively used in electrochemical transducers. Given that an optimized cellular structure is a key for improving charge density and the associated piezoelectric properties in this material, we investigated the influence of CO2 inflation treatment using various gas diffusion expansion or inflation procedures on the piezoelectric d33 coefficient and thermal stability of cellular poly(vinylidene) ferroelectrets and compare with the results (partially) obtained by N2 inflation as reported in our previous study (Jahan, Mighri, Rodrigue, Ajji, J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2019, 136, 47540). Samples were prepared using the conventional extrusion–stretching–inflation–corona charging method. Maximum d33 coefficient for CO2-inflated samples is found to be around 30% higher than that of N2-inflated samples (327 pC/N compared to 251 pC/N) by stepwise pressure application method. The key parameters addressed in the inflation procedures are the changes in sample thickness, morphology, and the void-height distribution in both gas treatments. The ferroelectrets show excellent thermal stability for up to 4 days at 90, 110, and 120 °C in both treatments with a slightly improved performance in CO2 gas. The higher activation energy of CO2-inflated samples (0.52 eV) than the N2-inflated ones (0.43 eV) further confirms the stability data. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym.
