In the present paper, discrete element method (DEM) was employed to investigate the effect of pigment morphology on packing dynamics and compressive behavior of paper coating layers in calendering process. Spherical, platy, and needle-like particles, representing GCC, delaminated clay, and aragonite PCC pigments, were considered in this study. For each particle shape, the compression of coating structures formed by mono-sized and poly-dispersed pigments were modeled. Stress–strain behavior of the coating layers and in-plane and out-of-plane movements of the pigment particles during the compression were computed under the same maximum compressive stress. Simulation results revealed that the in-plane movements of the pigment particles during compression in the calender nip were small in magnitude (<0.35 μm). These findings help to better understand the smoothening phenomena of coating structures during the calendering process.  相似文献

This paper proposes a systematic technique to design multiple robust H controllers. The proposed technique achieves a desired robust performance objective, which is impossible to achieve with a single robust controller, by dividing the uncertainty set into several subsets and by designing a robust controller to each subset. To achieve this goal with a small number of divisions of the uncertainty set, an optimization problem is formulated. Since the cost function of this optimization problem is not a smooth function, a numerical nonsmooth optimization algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. This method avoids the use of Lyapunov variables, and therefore it leads to a moderate size optimization problem. A numerical example shows that the proposed multiple robust control method can improve the closed‐loop performance when a single robust controller cannot achieve satisfactory performance. A model for the computational cost of the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method irrespective of implementation details or the application domain is given. The model is used to formalize the problem of optimal distribution of computational load to an arbitrary set of resources across a heterogeneous cluster. We show that the problem can be formulated as a minimax optimization problem and derive analytic lower bounds for the computational cost. The work provides insight into optimal design of FDTD parallel software. Our formulation of the load distribution problem takes simultaneously into account the computational and communication costs. We demonstrate that significant performance gains, as much as 75%, can be achieved by proper load distribution.  相似文献

There have been few experience reports from industry on how Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) is applied and what the benefits are. This paper summarizes the experiences of three large industrial participants in a European research project with the objective of developing techniques and tools for applying MDE on the development of large and complex software systems. The participants had varying degrees of previous experience with MDE. They found MDE to be particularly useful for providing abstractions of complex systems at multiple levels or from different viewpoints, for the development of domain-specific models that facilitate communication with non-technical experts, for the purposes of simulation and testing, and for the consumption of models for analysis, such as performance-related decision support and system design improvements. From the industrial perspective, a methodology is considered to be useful and cost-efficient if it is possible to reuse solutions in multiple projects or products. However, developing reusable solutions required extra effort and sometimes had a negative impact on the performance of tools. While the companies identified several benefits of MDE, merging different tools with one another in a seamless development environment required several transformations, which increased the required implementation effort and complexity. Additionally, user-friendliness of tools and the provision of features for managing models of complex systems were identified as crucial for a wider industrial adoption of MDE.  相似文献

Directional response and roll stability characteristics of a partly filled tractor semi-trailer vehicle, with cylindrical tank, under different parameters and conditions are investigated. The effective parameters and conditions in the stability of a tractor semi-trailer carrying liquid can be considered as filled volume, kinematic viscosity of liquid cargo and vehicle steering input. The dynamic interaction of liquid cargo with the tractor semi-trailer vehicle is evaluated by integrating a dynamic slosh model of the partly filled tank with five-degrees-offreedom of a tractor semi-trailer tank model. The dynamic fluid slosh within the tank is modeled using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, coupled with the volume-of-fluid equations and analyzed using FLUENT software. The coupled tank-vehicle model is subsequently analyzed to determine the roll stability characteristics for different conditions and maneuvers. The results show effects of parameter variations on roll stability of the vehicle carrying liquid and also fluid’s behavior in interaction with a vehicle’s dynamics.  相似文献

The successful clinical application of bone tissue engineering requires customized implants based on the receiver’s bone anatomy and defect characteristics. Three-dimensional (3D) printing in small animal orthopedics has recently emerged as a valuable approach in fabricating individualized implants for receiver-specific needs. In veterinary medicine, because of the wide range of dimensions and anatomical variances, receiver-specific diagnosis and therapy are even more critical. The ability to generate 3D anatomical models and customize orthopedic instruments, implants, and scaffolds are advantages of 3D printing in small animal orthopedics. Furthermore, this technology provides veterinary medicine with a powerful tool that improves performance, precision, and cost-effectiveness. Nonetheless, the individualized 3D-printed implants have benefited several complex orthopedic procedures in small animals, including joint replacement surgeries, critical size bone defects, tibial tuberosity advancement, patellar groove replacement, limb-sparing surgeries, and other complex orthopedic procedures. The main purpose of this review is to discuss the application of 3D printing in small animal orthopedics based on already published papers as well as the techniques and materials used to fabricate 3D-printed objects. Finally, the advantages, current limitations, and future directions of 3D printing in small animal orthopedics have been addressed.  相似文献

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring performance of decision making units (DMUs). Conventional DEA models view DMUs as black boxes. Network DEA (NDEA) models have been developed to overcome this shortfall. This paper develops a new NDEA model based on modified enhanced Russell measure model. This paper measures performance of humanitarian supply chains (HSCs) by an NDEA model. Capabilities of the proposed model are addressed by theorems. However, in the real world, there might be stochastic data. This paper presents a stochastic version of the proposed NDEA model to measure the performance of HSCs. We analyse main properties of our model. We present a case study to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model.  相似文献
