The introduction of multiple, independent production lines has helped many firms to increase their production flexibility, provide for redundancy when equipment breaks down, reduce idle time and labor costs, and achieve many other benefits. This paper introduces and formalizes the multiple U-line balancing problem. Optimal solution methodologies are provided for Type I (minimize the number of stations for a given cycle time), Type II (minimize the cycle time for a given number of stations), and cost-minimization line-balancing problems. A branch-and-bound algorithm is also developed for the situation in which equipment requirements are dependent on the line configuration and the task assignment to stations. Computational results indicate that the greatest benefit of exploiting multiple lines occurs for smaller cycle-time problems that require higher output. 相似文献

To help make a good polymer blend by melt blending, the properties of polycarbonate (PC)/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) systems with various compositions have been investigated. As ABS is blended into PC to form a binary system, Brabender torque is reduced, a phenomenon that results in Improved processability of PC. With increasing ABS content, the mechanical properties of the blends such as tensile strength, modulus, hardness, and shrinkage decrease. However, with the variation of composition, Izod impact strength shows a maximum, while elongation at break exhibits a minimum. These phenomena are discussed with dynamic viscoelasticities and scanning electron microscopic morphological results. The value of ΔTg(TgβPC ? TgβABS) is at its smallest when the ratio of PC to ABS is 90:10, However, the value rises with an increase in ABS because the butadiene content of the ABS hinders compatibility in the binary system. At the 90:10 composition, the damping height is optimal. In addition, the dispersed phase of the ABS is most ideal, absorbing the impact force and showing high impact strength. Composition ratios other than 90:10 present high damping as well as undesirable phase separation because of poor adhesion between two phases. As a result, the mechanical properties are reduced. 相似文献

Colorless and organo-soluble polyimide (PI) films have been synthesized from an alicyclic dianhydride BCDA and aromatic diamine 3,4′-ODA in the cosolvent of DMAc and GBL via one-step process. The graphene oxide (GO) was mixed with the above PI in DMAc solution to fabricate the PI/GO nanocomposite films. With the addition of only 0.001 wt% of GO in PI matrix, the resultant nanocomposite (PI/GO-0.001) exhibits not only the enhanced resistance to moisture but also retains superior visible light transmission, enhanced mechanical strength, and excellent dimensional stability, simultaneously. The water-vapor-transmission-rate (WVTR) significantly reduced to 30 g mil m−2 day−1 for this nanocomposite compared to 181 g mil m−2 day−1 for pure PI. Notably, the PI/GO-0.001 nanocomposite also exhibits low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of 41 ppm °C−1, which is benefited from the homogeneous distribution of ultrathin GO nanosheets in PI matrix. 相似文献

The sleep behavior of drosophila is analyzed under different temperatures. The activity per minute of the flies is recorded automatically. Sleep for a fruit fly is defined as the periods without any activity and longer than 5 minutes. Several parameters such as total sleep time, circadian sleep profile, quality of sleep are analyzed. The sleep behaviors are significantly different for flies at different temperature. Interestingly, the durations of daytime sleep periods show a common scale-free power law distribution. We propose a stochastic model to simulate the activities of the population of neurons which regulate the dynamics of sleep–wake process to explain the distribution of daytime sleep. 相似文献

The three-time-scale plant model of a wind power generator, including a wind turbine, a flexible vertical shaft, a variable inertia flywheel (VIF) module, an active magnetic bearing (AMB) unit and the applied wind sequence, is constructed. In order to make the wind power generator be still able to operate as the spindle speed exceeds its rated speed, the VIF is equipped so that the spindle speed can be appropriately slowed down once any stronger wind field is exerted. Currently, most of wind energy input is, as a matter of fact, a waste since the commercially available wind power generators only operate for fairly mild or low-speed wind field. To prevent any potential damage due to collision by shaft against conventional bearings, the AMB unit is proposed to replace the traditional bearings and regulate the shaft position deviation. By singular perturbation order-reduction technique, a lower-order plant model can be established for the synthesis of feedback controller. It is found that two major system parameter uncertainties, an additive uncertainty and a multiplicative uncertainty, are constituted by the wind turbine and the VIF, respectively. The upper bounds of system parameters variation can be therefore estimated and the frequency shaping sliding mode control (FSSMC) loop is proposed to account for these uncertainties and suppress the unmodeled higher-order plant dynamics. At last, the efficacy of the FSSMC is verified by intensive computer and experimental simulations for regulation on position deviation of the shaft and counter-balance of unpredictable wind disturbance. 相似文献

This paper presents a region-based image retrieval system that provides a user interface for helping to specify the watershed regions of interest within a query image. We first propose a new type of visual features, called color-size feature, which includes color-size histogram and moments, to integrate color and region-size information of watershed regions. Next, we design a scheme of region filtering that is based on color-size histogram to fast screen out some of most irrelevant regions and images for the preprocessing of the image retrieval. Our region-based image retrieval system applies the Earth Mover’s Distance in the design of the similarity measure for image ranking and matching. Finally, we present some experiments for the color-size feature, region filtering, and retrieval results that demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed system. 相似文献

This paper introduces a residential photovoltaic (PV) energy storage system, in which the PV power is controlled by a DC-DC power converter and transferred to a small battery energy storage system (BESS). For managing the power, a pattern of daily operation considering the load characteristic of the homeowner, the generation characteristic of the PV power, and the power-leveling demand of the electric utility is prescribed. The system looks up the pattern to select the operation mode, so that powers from the PV array, the batteries and the utility are utilized in a cost-effective manner. As for the control of the system, a novel control technique for the maximum power-point tracking (MPPT) of the PV array is proposed, in which the state-averaged model of the DC-DC power converter, including the dynamic model of the PV array, is derived. Accordingly, a high-performance discrete MPPT controller that tracks the maximum power point with zero-slope regulation and current-mode control is presented. With proposed arrangements on the control of the BESS and the current-to-power scaling factor setting, the DC-DC power converter is capable of combining with the BESS for performing the functions of power conditioning and active power filtering. To support clients with diverse capabilities, ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-T form a joint video team (JVT) to develop a scalable video coding (SVC) technology that uses single bitstream to provide multiple spatial, temporal, and quality (SNR) resolutions, thus satisfying low-complexity and low-delay constraints. It is an amendment of the emerging standard H.264/AVC and it provides an H.264/AVC-compatible base layer and a fully scalable enhancement layer, which can be truncated and extracted on-the-fly to obtain a preferred spatio-temporal and quality resolution.
