An arbitrated address-event imager has been designed and fabricated in a 0.6-/spl mu/m CMOS process. The imager is composed of 80 /spl times/ 60 pixels of 32 /spl times/ 30 /spl mu/m. The value of the light intensity collected by each photosensitive element is inversely proportional to the pixel's interspike time interval. The readout of each spike is initiated by the individual pixel; therefore, the available output bandwidth is allocated according to pixel output demand. This encoding of light intensities favors brighter pixels, equalizes the number of integrated photons across light intensity, and minimizes power consumption. Tests conducted on the imager showed a large output dynamic range of 180 dB (under bright local illumination) for an individual pixel. The array, on the other hand, produced a dynamic range of 120 dB (under uniform bright illumination and when no lower bound was placed on the update rate per pixel). The dynamic range is 48.9 dB value at 30-pixel updates/s. Power consumption is 3.4 mW in uniform indoor light and a mean event rate of 200 kHz, which updates each pixel 41.6 times per second. The ab-initio crystal structure solution by powder diffraction data requires great efforts because of the collapse of the experimental information onto the one dimensional 2θ axis of the pattern. Different strategies will be described aiming at improving the process of extraction of the integrated intensities from the experimental pattern in order to make more straightforward the structure solution process by direct methods. The present study examined whether traditional gender role expectations (Eagly, 1987) influence behaviors in non-traditional contexts such as online virtual environments. Participants were 352 Second Life users who reported their activities and experiences in Second Life. Results indicated that men and women differed in the types of activities they engaged in a manner predicted by social role theory. Specifically, as compared to women, men were more likely to report building things (e.g. objects), to own and work on their own virtual property, and were less likely to change their avatar’s appearance. Women, as compared to men, were more likely to meet people, shop, regularly change their avatar’s appearance, and buy clothes/objects for their avatar. The present study adds to our understanding of how traditional gender role expectations may carry over to online virtual worlds and influence online behavior. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine social evaluations (i.e., perceptions of empathy and positivity) following peoples’ interactions with digital human representations. Female research participants engaged in a 3-min interaction while immersed in a 3-D immersive virtual environment with a “peer counselor.” Participants were led to believe that the peer counselor was either an embodied agent (i.e., computer algorithm) or an avatar (i.e., another person). During the interaction, the peer counselor either smiled or not. As predicted, a digitally-rendered smile was found to affect participants’ social evaluations. However, these effects were moderated by participants’ beliefs about their interaction partner. Specifically, smiles enhanced social evaluations of embodied agents but degraded them for avatars. Although these results are consistent with other findings concerning the communicative realism of embodied agents and avatars they uniquely demonstrate that people’s beliefs alone, rather than actual differences in virtual representations, can impact social evaluations. 相似文献

This paper describes an approach used to evaluate the performance of different supply chain configurations in customised contexts. Based on historical data collected from the supply chain of a shoe producer, different configurations are evaluated based on a discrete-event simulation by highlighting the performance of the supply chain (in terms of supply chain order lead-time and inventory volume) when the production switched from standard production (characterised by batches of large quantities of the same product) to customised production (characterised by a small of series batches with high product variability). The simulation approach relies on experimentation through executable configurations, which enables the creation of different scenarios, and is then applied to the case of an actual firm in the footwear industry. The composition of the mixed micelles formed by benzethonium chloride and dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide in water were
experimentally determined by a combination of surfactant ion-selective electrodes and UV–Vis spectroscopy measurements. Results
were compared with the computed compositions from three theories on mixed micelles available in the literature (Regular Solution,
Motomura’ and Georgiev’s). The basis of the Junquera and Aicart method and the determination of the micelle aggregation number
(N) by pyrene fluorescence quenching, i.e., the constancy of N and the mixed micelle composition when the total concentration is changed, were not supported by our experimental results. Experimental micelle compositions were statistically equal to those computed
by Regular Solution Theory. The mixed micelle composition and the quantity of non-micellized surfactant molecules change with
concentration above the critical micelle concentration, and therefore do not support the assumptions used in the Junquera
and Aicart procedure and in the determination of N by pyrene fluorescence quenching. The reason why the latter procedure gives N values similar to those obtained from other techniques is discussed. 相似文献

The AIF/CypA complex exerts a lethal activity in several rodent models of acute brain injury. Upon formation, it translocates into the nucleus of cells receiving apoptotic stimuli, inducing chromatin condensation, DNA fragmentation, and cell death by a caspase-independent mechanism. Inhibition of this complex in a model of glutamate-induced cell death in HT-22 neuronal cells by an AIF peptide (AIF(370-394)) mimicking the binding site on CypA, restores cell survival and prevents brain injury in neonatal mice undergoing hypoxia-ischemia without apparent toxicity. Here, we explore the effects of the peptide on SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells stimulated with staurosporine (STS), a cellular model widely used to study Parkinson’s disease (PD). This will pave the way to understanding the role of the complex and the potential therapeutic efficacy of inhibitors in PD. We find that AIF(370-394) confers resistance to STS-induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells similar to that observed with CypA silencing and that the peptide works on the AIF/CypA translocation pathway and not on caspases activation. These findings suggest that the AIF/CypA complex is a promising target for developing novel therapeutic strategies against PD. 相似文献

This paper describes the development and validation of an analytical method to determine 15 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in fish and shellfish tissues with gas chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry using electron impact source (GC-EI-MS/MS). A QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe)-like procedure was applied; the extract was cleaned up on an acidic Extrelut-NT3 column connected on top of a silica cartridge and further purified with gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The SIM acquisition proved to yield better results than traditional MRM approach for octa-, nona-, and deca-brominated congeners. The validation study was carried out in inter-laboratory conditions. The average recoveries were in the range 66–118%, with relative standard deviations generally lower than or equal to 22%. Quality assurance and quality control practices were thoroughly described and highlighted. These long and tedious practices are fundamental to obtain reliable quantitative data during food monitoring programs and, therefore, to support daily intake assessments. Finally, the procedure was applied to the analysis of marine fish samples collected in local markets. Mackerel and mullet were the most contaminated species. 相似文献

We report on two generations of CMOS image sensors with digital output fabricated in a 0.6 μm CMOS process. The imagers embed
an ALOHA MAC interface for unfettered self-timed pixel read-out targeted to energy-aware sensor network applications. Collision
on the output is monitored using contention detector circuits. The image sensors present very high dynamic range and ultra-low
power operation. This characteristics allow the sensor to operate in different lighting conditions and for years on the sensor
network node power budget.
Eugenio Culurciello (S’97–M’99) received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2004 from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore,
MD. In July 2004 he joined the department of Electrical Engineering at Yale University, where he is currently an assistant
professor. He founded and instrumented the E-Lab laboratory in 2004. His research interest is in analog and mixed-mode integrated
circuits for biomedical applications, sensors and networks, biological sensors, Silicon on Insulator design and bio-inspired
systems.
Andreas G. Andreou received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science in 1986 from Johns Hopkins University. Between 1986 and
1989 he held post-doctoral fellow and associate research scientist positions in the Electrical and Computer engineering department
while also a member of the professional staff at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Andreou became an assistant
professor of Electrical and Computer engineering in 1989, associate professor in 1993 and professor in 1996. He is also a
professor of Computer Science and of the Whitaker Biomedical Engineering Institute and director of the Institute’s Fabrication
and Lithography Facility in Clark Hall. He is the co-founder of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Language and Speech
Processing. Between 2001 and 2003 he was the founding director of the ABET accredited undergraduate Computer Engineering program.
In 1996 and 1997 he was a visiting professor of the computation and neural systems program at the California Institute of
Technology. In 1989 and 1991 he was awarded the R.W. Hart Prize for his work on mixed analog/digital integrated circuits for
space applications. He is the recipient of the 1995 and 1997 Myril B. Reed Best Paper Award and the 2000 IEEE Circuits and
Systems Society, Darlington Best Paper Award. During the summer of 2001 he was a visiting professor in the department of systems
engineering and machine intelligence at Tohoku University. In 2006, Prof. Andreou was elected as an IEEE Fellow and a distinguished
lecturer of the IEEE EDS society.
Andreou’s research interests include sensors, micropower electronics, heterogeneous microsystems, and information processing
in biological systems. He is a co-editor of the IEEE Press book: Low-Voltage/Low-Power Integrated Circuits and Systems, 1998
(translated in Japanese) and the Kluwer Academic Publishers book: Adaptive Resonance Theory Microchips, 1998. He is an associate
