The study of free and natural accessibility movements for a medium-sized car was carried out, recording the motor performances of ten participants by means of a motion analysis system. The experimental protocol used passive markers to implement a two-segment biomechanical model for the analysis of the head-trunk complex. The kinematic variables quantify the motor patterns, and showed specific features that can be related to the individual anthropometric characteristics and to the car geometry differences: tall participants used a neck flexion and a leftwards bending of the head, while short participants extended the neck and bent the head to the right. The different seat positions (short participants move forwards the seat) along with the principal need to avoid any body interference with the car, can explain the observed strategies. From the wider analysis of the movements in relation to the vehicle's features and to the anthropometric size of the participants, this approach could lead to an extension of the design criteria for those structural components of the car which have been demonstrated to significantly influence the human-machine interaction.  相似文献

Adsorption of human plasma and serum proteins onto hydrated aluminium was studied by ellipsometry/antibody techniques, and soluble complement components iC3b, Bb, and C4d with commercial ELISA plates. Aluminium that was incubated in plasma for 1 min bound significant amounts of anti-lipoproteins (anti-LP), no antibodies against contact activation of coagulation proteins, and no anti-fibrinogen (anti-Fib). Time course studies with serum revealed increasing deposition of anti-C3c with time. Complement factor 1q (C1q) was antibody detectable only after short-time serum incubations, but no anti-IgG and anti-properdin bound to the protein film at any time. Anti-C3c was not deposited after exposure of the surfaces to Clq-depleted serum. Intriguingly, and in spite of increasing deposition of C3 to the surface with time, the combined ellipsometry and ELISA results gave no unequivocal proof of activation of complement by hydrated aluminium.  相似文献

Scanhead tracking by opto-electronic (OE) systems allows high accuracy in three-dimensional (3-D) freehand ultrasound imaging. In this paper, a new set of methods is proposed and compared with the standard approach [Gram-Schmidt method (GS)]. Three redundancy-based algorithms are introduced to compensate for possible loss of markers during data acquisition: regression plane (RP), multiple Gram-Schmidt (MGS), and center of mass least square (CMLS). When combined with the ultrasound instrument, the root-mean-squared (RMS) uncertainty in locating target points, over a working volume of 420 mm x 490 mm x 100 mm, improved by 7% and 24% using MGS and CMLS method respectively, compared to GS. A lower improvement was obtained with RP methods (5%), using the best marker configuration. In conclusion, CMLS method provides a robust and accurate procedure for 3-D freehand ultrasound scanhead tracking, able to manage possible loss of markers, with interesting perspectives for image fusion and body referenced 3-D ultrasound.  相似文献

The knowledge of the behavior of electrically activated muscles is an important requisite for the development of functional electrical stimulation (FES) systems to restore mobility to persons with paralysis. The aim of this work was to develop a model capable of relating electrical parameters to dynamic joint torque for FES applications. The knee extensor muscles, stimulated using surface electrodes, were used for the experimental preparation. Both healthy subjects and people with paraplegia were tested. The dynamics of the lower limb were represented by a nonlinear second order model, which took account of the gravitational and inertial characteristics of the anatomical segments as well as the damping and stiffness properties of the knee joint. The viscous-elastic parameters of the system were identified experimentally through free pendular movements of the leg. Leg movements induced by quadriceps stimulation were acquired too, using a motion analysis system. Results showed that, for the considered experimental conditions, a simple one-pole transfer function is able to model the relationship between stimulus pulsewidth (PW) and active muscle torque. The time constant of the pole was found to depend on the stimulus pattern (ramp or step) while gain was directly dependent on stimulation frequency.  相似文献

Ferrocenyl(benzyl) imidazole (FcIm) and two related methyl-imidazolium salts (FcMIm+I and FcMIm+PF6) were synthesized for their incorporation into plasticized PVC by solvent casting technique. The obtained materials were investigated for their thermal stability and, compared to pure polymer, films containing ionic ferrocene derivatives in 0.5% w/w loading were found slightly more stable. The pure ferrocene compounds showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermis, but not against Escherichia coli, with a maximum for FcMIm+PF6 salt. After incorporation into PVC polymer, antibacterial activity against S. epidermis was observed (by disk diffusion test) only for PVC/FcMIm+PF6 (5% w/w) film, from which a release of 14.6% of the ferrocenilimidazolium cation in aqueous medium was measured after 24 hr.  相似文献

During exercise, large pleural, abdominal, and transdiaphragmatic pressure swings might produce substantial rib cage (RC) distortions. We used a three-compartment chest wall model (J. Appl. Physiol. 72: 1338-1347, 1992) to measure distortions of lung- and diaphragm-apposed RC compartments (RCp and RCa) along with pleural and abdominal pressures in five normal men. RCp and RCa volumes were calculated from three-dimensional locations of 86 markers on the chest wall, and the undistorted (relaxation) RC configuration was measured. Compliances of RCp and RCa measured during phrenic stimulation against a closed airway were 20 and 0%, respectively, of their values during relaxation. There was marked RC distortion. Thus nonuniform distribution of pressures distorts the RC and markedly stiffens it. However, during steady-state ergometer exercise at 0, 30, 50, and 70% of maximum workload, RC distortions were small because of a coordinated action of respiratory muscles, so that net pressures acting on RCp and RCa were nearly the same throughout the respiratory cycle. This maximizes RC compliance and minimizes the work of RC displacement. During quiet breathing, plots of RCa volume vs. abdominal pressure were to the right of the relaxation curve, indicating an expiratory action on RCa. We attribute this to passive stretching of abdominal muscles, which more than counterbalances the insertional component of transdiaphragmatic pressure.  相似文献

Poly-(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB), a linear polymer of R-3-hydroxybutyrate (R-3HB), is a fundamental constituent of biological cells. Certain prokaryotes accumulate PHB of very high molecular weight (10,000 to >1,000,000 residues), which is segregated within granular deposits in the cytoplasm; however, all prokaryotes and all eukaryotes synthesize PHB of medium-chain length (~100–200 residues) which resides within lipid bilayers or lipid vesicles, and PHB of short-chain length (<12 residues) which is conjugated to proteins (cPHB), primarily proteins in membranes and organelles. The physical properties of cPHB indicate it plays important roles in the targeting and folding of cPHB-proteins. Here we review the occurrence, physical properties and molecular characteristics of cPHB, and discuss its influence on the folding and structure of outer membrane protein A (OmpA) of Escherichia coli.  相似文献

by Philip E. Nelson, 2007 World Food Prize Laureate; Professor Emeritus, Food Science Dept., Purdue Univ. Just as society has evolved over time, our food system has also evolved over centuries into a global system of immense size and complexity. The commitment of food science and technology professionals to advancing the science of food, ensuring a safe and abundant food supply, and contributing to healthier people everywhere is integral to that evolution. Food scientists and technologists are versatile, interdisciplinary, and collaborative practitioners in a profession at the crossroads of scientific and technological developments. As the food system has drastically changed, from one centered around family food production on individual farms and home food preservation to the modern system of today, most people are not connected to their food nor are they familiar with agricultural production and food manufacturing designed for better food safety and quality. The Institute of Food Technologists—a nonprofit scientific society of individual members engaged in food science, food technology, and related professions in industry, academia, and government—has the mission to advance the science of food and the long‐range vision to ensure a safe and abundant food supply contributing to healthier people everywhere. IFT convened a task force and called on contributing authors to develop this scientific review to inform the general public about the importance and benefits of food science and technology in IFT's efforts to feed a growing world. The main objective of this review is to serve as a foundational resource for public outreach and education and to address misperceptions and misinformation about processed foods. The intended audience includes those who desire to know more about the application of science and technology to meet society's food needs and those involved in public education and outreach. It is IFT's hope that the reader will gain a better understanding of the goals or purposes for various applications of science and technology in the food system, and an appreciation for the complexity of the modern food supply. Abstract: This Institute of Food Technologists scientific review describes the scientific and technological achievements that made possible the modern production‐to‐consumption food system capable of feeding nearly 7 billion people, and it also discusses the promising potential of ongoing technological advancements to enhance the food supply even further and to increase the health and wellness of the growing global population. This review begins with a historical perspective that summarizes the parallel developments of agriculture and food technology, from the beginnings of modern society to the present. A section on food manufacturing explains why food is processed and details various food processing methods that ensure food safety and preserve the quality of products. A section about potential solutions to future challenges briefly discusses ways in which scientists, the food industry, and policy makers are striving to improve the food supply for a healthier population and feed the future. Applications of science and technology within the food system have allowed production of foods in adequate quantities to meet the needs of society, as it has evolved. Today, our production‐to‐consumption food system is complex, and our food is largely safe, tasty, nutritious, abundant, diverse, convenient, and less costly and more readily accessible than ever before. Scientific and technological advancements must be accelerated and applied in developed and developing nations alike, if we are to feed a growing world population.  相似文献
