In the present study nanocrystalline pristine and Pd-doped SnO2 (Pd:SnO2) with various mol% Pd have been synthesized by a modified Pechini citrate route. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction studies were used to characterize the morphology, crystallinity, and structure of the SnO2 and Pd:SnO2. The response of the pristine SnO2 and Pd:SnO2 was studied towards different reducing gases. The 1.5 mol% Pd doping showed an enhanced response of 75 and 95% towards LPG at as low as 50 and 100 °C, respectively, which were quite large high value as compared with pristine SnO2 (38 and 35% at 50 and 100 °C, respectively). Structural characterization revealed that Pd doping reduced the crystallite size of SnO2 and helps in the formation of distinct spherical nanospheres at a calcinations temperature of 500 °C. Thus the increase in LPG response can be correlated with the spherical morphology, a decrease in the crystallite size (11 nm) due to doping with Pd as compared with the pristine SnO2 (26 nm) and main role of Pd as a catalyst.  相似文献

Microgravity, as a different environment, has been shown to affect plant growth and development (Sievers et al. 1996; Sack 1997). In the present study, effects of slow clinorotation (2 rpm) on growth and chlorophyll content in rice (variety: PRH-10) seedlings were investigated. Rice seeds were clinorotated continuously for 3, 5 and 7 days under ambient conditions. Root and shoot lengths and weights of rice seedlings were measured on the third, fifth and seventh day. Chlorophyll was extracted using N, N-Dimethylformamide (DMF). Absorption and fluorescence spectra of chlorophyll were recorded. Chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll contents were calculated from absorption spectra using Arnon’s method. Results showed an increase in root and shoot lengths in clinorotated samples. Similar results were obtained for root and shoot weights. Absorption spectra of chlorophyll showed no shift in the absorption peaks. Chlorophyll content was increased in clinorotated samples as compared to the controls. Interestingly, the difference between chlorophyll content in control and clinorotated samples decreased as the number of days of clinorotation increased. Chlorophyll a/b ratio was lowered in clinorotated samples as compared to the controls. These results suggest that slow clinorotation (2 rpm) affects plant growth and chlorophyll content in rice seedlings.  相似文献

Molecular detection of meat animal species targeting MT 12S rRNA gene   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The efficacy of PCR-RFLP analysis of mt 12S rRNA gene in identification of animal species from meat samples of known and unknown origin and adulterated meat samples was evaluated. In PCR, all the samples generated an amplicon of 456 bp. Restriction enzyme digestion of the PCR product with AluI, HhaI, BspTI and ApoI revealed characteristic RFLP patterns. Of the samples of unknown origin few were identified as cattle, few as buffalo and some were admixtures of two, suggesting adulteration. The RFLP pattern of one did not match any of species included in the study, which on sequencing was confirmed as camel meat. Application of this technique on adulterated meat samples could detect both animal species in proportion of 50:50 and 75:25 (except in case of goat+cattle). The technique however could not detect any of the two species when proportion of mixture was 90:10 (except in case of cattle+buffalo).  相似文献

There is a strong interest in developing an in vitro arsenic (As) model that satisfactorily estimates the variability in in vivo relative oral bioavailability (RBA) measurements. Several in vitro tests have been developed, but none is universally accepted due to their limited success in predicting soil As RBA. A suite of amorphous and crystalline solid As phases were chosen, utilizing a worst-case scenario (WCS) that simulated fasting children's gastric solution chemistry. The objectives of this study were to (i) determine the effects of residence time, pH, and solid-to-solution ratio on As bioaccessibility and speciation in the in vitro gastric test; (ii) provide the fundamental basis for an optimized in vitro model constrained by the WCS; and (iii) validate the optimized in vitro test with the in vivo RBA obtained with BALB/c mice. The gastric pH was the only significant (p < 0.05) factor influencing solid As bioaccessibility. Bioaccessible As retained the oxidation state after its release from the solid into the gastric solution. The optimized in vitro model adequately predicted RBA values for a suite of solid As phases typically encountered in soils, with the exception of aluminum-based solids. This study is an excellent starting point for developing an in vitro test applicable to different As-contaminated soils.  相似文献

Highly specialized personnel and high cost are typically required for in vivo risk assessment of arsenic (As) exposure to humans in As-contaminated soils. Arsenic bioaccessibility in soils, as determined with the aid of in vitro tests, is quite variable, and its magnitude depends upon unidentified soil properties. Use of soil chemical properties is a common practice for construction of As(V) sorption and bioaccessibility models with relative success. We propose a novel As(V) bioaccessibility model, which was tested on 17 soils. The model includes only two parameters characterizing surface properties of soils that are readily determined from N2- and CO2-based specific surface areas (SSAs), and total organic carbon (OC) content. We found that N2 and CO2 molecules act as As(V) "surrogates", probing easily accessible and relatively difficult to access soil porosity, respectively. Three interrelated linear models were constructed using two terms (CO2/N2-based SSAs and OC) that were significant (p <0.001) in explaining 51 and 95% of the variability observed in As(V) sorption and bioaccessibility, respectively. The proposed models successfully predicted bioaccessible As concentrations for 4 out of the 5 soils that were not included in the bioaccessibility models, reaching RMSE values of < or =10%.  相似文献

In 1996, the Tab-Simco site, an abandoned coal mine 10 km southeast of Carbondale, Illinois, was listed as one of the most highly contaminated AMD sites in the mid-continent region. A suite of impacted soil and water samples were collected from various locations to characterize the current extent of AMD pollution, following standard U.S. EPA protocols. The mean pH of soil and water samples were found to be 2.69 and 2.07, respectively. The mean sulfur content of the soil samples was 0.5 %. The AMD-impacted soils contained high concentrations of Fe, Zn, Ni, Cr, Cu, Pb, and As. The AMD also contained high concentrations of Fe, As, Zn, Pb, Cr, Al, Cd, Cu, and Ni, as well as \({\text{SO}}_{4}^{2 - }\), all of which were significantly above their U.S. EPA permissible limits for surface water.  相似文献
