The state of water in water-swollen poly(vinyl alcohol-co-itaconic acid) membranes, having various water contents from 0.31 to 0.83, was investigated by d.s.c. measurements and compared with those in water-swollen poly(vinyl alcohol) membranes. The amount of freezing water in the membranes was estimated by use of a relationship between the phase transition temperature and the enthalpy of the crystallization of supercooled water. The melting temperature of the water in the membranes immersed in urea and NaCl 0–2 mol l?1 aqueous solutions was also determined by d.s.c. analysis. The present study proposes a method for estimating the solubilities of urea and NaCl in both of the freezing and the non-freezing water using the melting point depression of the freezing water in the membranes immersed in the solute solution.  相似文献

Recently, various robots with many degrees of freedom, such as rescue robots and domestic robots, have been developed and used in practical applications. It is difficult to control such robots autonomously in real environments, because in order to control the many degrees of freedom, we have to observe many states, calculate huge amounts of information, and operate many actuators. In this study, we consider a flexible robot without sensors or controllers that can determine the inclination of a slope and climb up the slope. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework, we have developed a prototype robot and conducted experiments. The result indicates that the robot could determine the inclination and climb up a gentle slope autonomously. Thus, we have realized an autonomous robot that has no explicit sensors or controllers.  相似文献

The set of firing rates of the presynaptic excitatory and inhibitory neurons constitutes the input signal to the postsynaptic neuron. Estimation of the time-varying input rates from intracellularly recorded membrane potential is investigated here. For that purpose, the membrane potential dynamics must be specified. We consider the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck stochastic process, one of the most common single-neuron models, with time-dependent mean and variance. Assuming the slow variation of these two moments, it is possible to formulate the estimation problem by using a state-space model. We develop an algorithm that estimates the paths of the mean and variance of the input current by using the empirical Bayes approach. Then the input firing rates are directly available from the moments. The proposed method is applied to three simulated data examples: constant signal, sinusoidally modulated signal, and constant signal with a jump. For the constant signal, the estimation performance of the method is comparable to that of the traditionally applied maximum likelihood method. Further, the proposed method accurately estimates both continuous and discontinuous time-variable signals. In the case of the signal with a jump, which does not satisfy the assumption of slow variability, the robustness of the method is verified. It can be concluded that the method provides reliable estimates of the total input firing rates, which are not experimentally measurable.  相似文献

Interdiffusion coefficient in cobalt-manganese alloys has been determined by Matano's method in the temperature range between 1133 and 1423 K on (pure Co)-(Co-30.28 at. pct Mn alloy) and (pure Co)-(Co-51.76 at. pct Mn alloy) couples. This, ∼D, has been found to increase with the increase of manganese content. However, the activation energy (∼Q) and frequency factor ( 0) show a maximum at about 10 at. pct Mn. The concentration dependence of and has been discussed taking into account the thermodynamic properties of the alloy. The difference in between the ferro- and paramagnetic phases in Co-5 at. pct Mn alloy has been found to be 24 kJ/mol, which is larger, than that for the diffusion of Mn54 in this alloy. Further it has been found that the Kirkendall marker moves toward manganese-rich side, showing that manganese atoms diffuse faster than cobalt atoms. From the marker shift, the intrinsic diffusion coefficients,D Co andD Mn, at 33 at. pct Mn have been determined as follows:D Co=0.22×10−4 exp(−263 kJ mol−1/RT) m2/s, andD Mn=0.98×10−4 exp(−229 kJ mol−1/RT) m2/s.  相似文献

A method of leak detection, based on high-temperature resistant microphones, was originally developed in JNC to detect leakages with flow rates from 1 m3/h to 500m3/h. The development performed on Fugen is focused on detection of a small leakage at an early stage. Specifically, for the inlet feeder pipes the leak rate of 0.2gpm (0.046m3/h) has been chosen as a target detection capability. Evaluation of detection sensitivity was carried out in order to check the capability of the method to satisfy this requirement. The possibility of detecting and locating a small leakage has been demonstrated through the research.  相似文献

Large amounts of nuclear spent fuel are generated in nuclear power plants every year and stored in fuel storage facilities for 20–30 years until reprocessing. However, the spent fuel still has residual energies, such as high-temperature heat energy and high-intensity gamma radioactivity. We have examined the characteristics of solar cells exposed to gamma radiation for the development of gamma cells utilizing nuclear spent fuel. We used a highly intense 60Co gamma source as a suitable substitute for spent fuel due to safety concerns and convenience. Two representative types of solar cells, amorphous and crystalline cells, were examined and the current and voltage generated by each type were measured. In general, solar cells are largely insensitive to gamma radiation because the radiation passes through solar cells without imparting all of its energy. In order to enhance the sensitivity to radiation, the solar cells were coupled to CsI(Tl), NaI(Tl) and plastic scintillators. We confirmed the following characteristics: (1) amorphous solar cells coupled to a CsI(Tl) scintillator are able to generate a large amount of electric power, compared to crystal-type solar cells, (2) amorphous cells exhibit a good linear response to high-intensity gamma radiation and generate electric power almost in proportion to the volume of the scintillator used, (3) the generated electric power is independent of the incident angle of the gamma rays and the amount of power is determined only by the volume of the scintillator used. The electric power generated by a single solar cell is very small, but a large amount of electric power can be obtained by arranging many solar cells in stacks and combining their induced current or voltage and by operating the cells all day, as they are not affected by weather conditions. We concluded that gamma cells utilizing the gamma radiation of nuclear spent fuel can be expected to be useful for electric power generation in the near future.  相似文献

We examined growth control of adult and fetal hepatocytes by regulating the expression of cell-cycle-related proteins using antisense S-oligonucleotides to tumor suppressors retinoblastoma (RB) protein and p53, and cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitors p21 and p27. The protein expression in both adult and fetal hepatocytes was significantly suppressed with the addition of corresponding antisense oligonucleotides at a concentration of 2.5 microM. For the evaluation of growth, 3H-thymidine incorporation and DNA content were measured and the results demonstrated that all the antisense oligonucleotides had growth-promoting effects and the promoting potential was equivalent or slightly greater than that with the addition of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) (10 ng/ml). The growth-promoting effect of the antisense oligonucleotides was enhanced by HGF in both adult and fetal hepatocyte cultures, and the effects on hepatocyte growth were also observed in a suspension culture.  相似文献
