Dispersion analysis of multilayer cylindrical transmission linescontaining magnetized ferrite substrates

Recently, there has been a growing interest in using cylindrical transmission lines that contain magnetized ferrite material in a variety of applications. In this paper, the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method (in cylindrical coordinates) and the spectral-domain analysis (SDA) are used to calculate the propagation characteristics of cylindrical transmission lines that contain magnetized ferrite material. The magnetization can be either in the longitudinal or azimuthal directions. Specifically, the cylindrical microstrip line, and the cylindrical coplanar waveguide printed on magnetized ferrite substrate are analyzed. Both the FDTD and SDA results are in very good agreement. In addition, the results are compared to those of planar structures by taking the radius of the substrate to be large enough such that the curvature effect is negligible     

Evaluation of simple dynamic models and controllers for hydraulic and nozzle pressure in injection molding

Simple pseudo-steady state relations between the hydraulic and nozzle pressures of an injection molding machine were presented and verified experimentally. A simulation study was performed to evaluate the performance of simple controllers using dynamic models developed for the hydraulic and nozzle pressures. The controllers chosen were the discrete proportional, proportional-integral (PI), and proportional-integral-derivative (PID) types, tuned according to the ITAE criterion. The control of hydraulic pressure simulation showed that the PI controller had the best overall performance, whereas the result of nozzle pressure control loop simulation showed that the PID controller performance was better than that of the PI controller. All the controllers, in both loops, gave responses that were about an order of magnitude more rapid than the open loop response.     

The significance of gastric helicobacteriosis in the genesis hemorrhage from duodenal peptic ulcer

Based on a comprehensive analysis of findings from examination and surgical treatment of 196 patients with bleeding pyloroduodenal ulcers, it was found out that patients with concurrent helicobacteriosis of the stomach are prone to more unfavourable course of their illness, which fact is evidenced by a greater loss of blood and higher risk for bleeding recurrences. A classification is proposed by the authors, taking advantage of the data from endoscopic, microscopic and immunoenzymatic techniques, with the purpose of providing an assessment of degree of severity of helicobacteriosis of the stomach.     

Semantic indexing of Arabic texts for information retrieval system

As part of information retrieval systems (IRS) and in the context of the use of ontologies for documents and queries indexing, we propose and evaluate in this paper the contribution of this approach applied to Arabic texts. To do this we indexed a corpus of Arabic text using Arabic WordNet. The disambiguation of words was performed by applying the Lesk algorithm. The results obtained by our experiment allowed us to deduct the contribution of this approach in IRS for Arabic texts.     

The effect of promoters on the CO<Subscript>2</Subscript> reforming activity and coke formation of nanocrystalline Ni/Al<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript> catalysts prepared by microemulsion method

Mesoporous nanocrystalline nickel-alumina promoted catalysts with high surface area were prepared by microemulsion (ME) method and employed in dry reforming of methane reaction. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis (BET), temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and temperature programmed oxidation (TPO) techniques. The results showed that the prepared catalysts had high porosity with great surface area and small crystallite size. Among the K₂O, MgO, CaO and BaO promoters, the MgO promoter showed considerable effect on catalytic performance and coke suppression of catalyst.     

Modeling of hermetic transitions for microwave packages

Two numerical techniques, the finite difference in time domain (FDTD) and the finite element method (FEM) in frequency domain, are employed to characterize microstrip hermetic transition geometries in an effort to investigate high-frequency effects. Measurements performed on these transitions compare favorably with theory. Two different types of transitions have been analyzed from 10 to 25 GHz and have been found to be limited in performance by higher return loss as frequency increases. It is shown that microstrip-through-CPW hermetic transitions in the shielded environment may suffer from parasitic waveguide modes which, however, can be eliminated with the use of vias at appropriate locations. The hermetic wall on top of the CPW section shows a relatively small (≤ 2 dB) effect on the original circuit performance. Similarly, the hermetic bead transition shows good performance at a lower frequency region while it degrades as frequency increases. This indicates the need for very careful characterization of transitions intended for use in microwave and millimeter-wave applications. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

The genetic locus for free sialic acid storage disease maps to the long arm of chromosome 6

Salla disease (SD), or adult-type free sialic acid storage disease, is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder characterized by impaired transport of free sialic acid across the lysosomal membrane and severe psychomotor retardation. Random linkage analysis of a sample of 27 Finnish families allowed us to localize the SD locus to the long arm of chromosome 6. The highest lod score of 8.95 was obtained with a microsatellite marker of locus D6S286 at theta = .00. Evidence for linkage disequilibrium was observed between the SD locus and the alleles of three closely linked markers, suggesting that the length of the critical region for the SD locus is in the order of 190 kb.     

Sex and acculturation differences in occupational values among Chinese-American children.

A study of sex and acculturation differences in occupational values among a group of Chinese-American children (5th and 6th graders) found that money and task satisfaction were very important values, whereas object orientation and solitude were quite unimportant. The high-acculturation children valued self-realization more than the low-acculturation children. Some sex differences in occupational values were also found among this group of children: boys valued object orientation, self-realization, and ideas–data more than did girls, and girls valued altruism more than did boys.
